"The players arent good enough" argument is just bollocks.

Yes we have weaknesses, but Son Heung Min is probably one of the most coveted wide forwards in world football, Harry Kane has over 130 league goals, Dele Alli has 50+, Lamela and Lo Celso are Argentina internationals, Bergwijn is an exciting, talented, pacey young player, and Ndombele was seen as a massive coup when we signed him. Toby is also by no means done at this level and has been one of the best CBs in the league over the past few years, and on his day Lloris is still an excellent keeper (see yesterday).

Even most the players that we slag off are solid mid-table players at worst. There's definitely a lot of mediocrity in the squad, especially in the back 5 + Sissoko, but someone like Lucas would be the best player at most bottom half clubs, and Sanchez, Davies, Dier, Aurier, while clearly not top top players are by no means utter dross. Even our fringe players like Sessegnon, Skipp, Gedson, have bags of potential if used correctly.

We should be doing SO much better than we are. We're a mile off the best teams in the league, but some of you seem to be drinking the Mourinho Kool Aid and seem convinced that our entire squad is trash.

It just isn't.

Of the starting 11 how many would get into those teams in the top 4 and just outside. It's a generalised measuring stick, but one that's eye opening if you choose to use it.

I'd say none of Son, Kane, Ndombele, Lo Celso and Bergwijn, if used correctly, would look out of place in the first 11 of any of the top 4 clubs, and that's half a starting line up. Toby would probably also be a starter at Chelsea, United and City.

The players have under performed under mourinho and shown relegation form under Poch so it's not mourinho who is the entire problem. That's not drinking the kool aid that's just facts.

Individually for certain teams, ok.

But the opposition isn't able to get out of their own half quicker.

Isn't the point that if you play a high press the oppostion will be doing more passing in their own half, whereas if you play a low block they'll be doing more passing in your half? So it kind of follows by definition that the number of passes in their own half will be lower if you defend deep.

Yeah but things clearly went stale under Poch and we needed to bring in the right manager to rejuvenate the squad and move them forward.

Jose, quite clearly, wasn't the right man for the job and has exacerbated the problem, along with bringing a bunch of new ones.

Look at how much Klopp has got out of players like Henderson, Wijnaldum and Robertson. He's elevated them to a whole other level.

Mourinho is doing the opposite.

Are you really going back to the beginning of this thread and neg repping anyone who thought Mourinho might have been a good appointment?!
How very pathetic.

Quite clearly this is key - failure to back Jose adequately and you can get prepared for a long and sour goodbye but then i'd say any prospective manager requires the necessary backing to address glaring issues all over the pitch.

Does Jose have the stomach for a rebuild? That's the pertinent question as well because I think it's fair to say he was a sold a dream that's quickly turned into a nightmare.
Jose's idea of a rebuild is to spend 100 million in 3 straight transfer windows. Thats never going to happen at Spurs.

I'm amazed at the way people are rating Bergwijn these days . I don't understand on what basis other than the goal vs Utd ,this is happening . Good squad player , yes but...

I was very happy when jose got appointed because under poch last year we went downhill faster than Eddie the eagle. Now the last 8 league games have given us 9 pts and in between knocked out of the champions league and fa cup and I fear it could be 9 from 9 after Sunday, not happy any more?

I can't keep up with who we do think we should keep and isn't shit on the pitch and who is and who should be flogged off.

We're not mediocre but we are ...

No wonder our managers don't know their arse from their elbow.

Fair enough, some of that judgement is based on potential, but he's an intelligent passer, pacey, good crosser, good technically and has a decent shot on him. I feel like he has everything in his locker to be a very decent player, albeit not quite one of the very best.

Son looks like shit in our current side, but put him in a better team and he'll look incredible. I feel similarly about Bergwijn.

But Mourinho has shown us nothing since is arrival to turn the doubters around. Then these 5 matches we have been the worst we have been in 15 years. How can you not question him when he has talked down the previous regime.

Last night was the first time I found myself agreeing with the George Graham comparison. The team was so focussed on staying solid (I successfully mind) that there was absolutely no impetus going forward.

I’m cutting a level of slack for the players having had a ridiculous schedule (9 games between matches the several every two days) but he’s rotated enough to have freshness.

I’m also still willing to see what he does with a proper DM in place which allows the more technical players more freedom going forward, because as we’ve seen previously (Wilson, Parker, Wanyama) a top DM changes everything. This is in large entwined with my acceptance that José is here until he fails, and I never want any Spurs manager to fail, so I might as well be patient. But I'm also deep down hoping we have a Sherwood clause, unlikely though that is given that the two coaches we took from Lille wouldn’t have taken the risk for a situation where they could be out in no time.

The problem is the midfield and more specifically the lack of a defensive midfielder who can link the play.

Put Dembele back in this team and half the problems go away. Put back Eriksen and we are good again.

To be fair, he did 'doh' my post that said something to the effect of Mourinho's appointment "definitely won't be boring." I'll accept that one.
