I can see us giving them a mailing to be honest. Every player will be busting a nut to impress imo.

Agree about the Football Weekly - I think it was Auclair who said Spurs are the first club he's been at that can't win the league. I bet he would have said a year ago that we weren't the type of team who could get to a Champions League final!

Quite a dismissive attitude towards us in general - almost as if they're incredulous that little old Spurs had the temerity to try and reach the next level.
Agreed.....I usually like the opinions on football weekly, but this seemed like lazy opinions based on the grumpy Mourinho at Man Utd. They also mentioned they don’t think Dele will do well under Mourinho. I completely disagree. In fact, I think he’s going to thrive. Hopefully Jose can bring the naughty out of him.

Mourinho’s only ‘failed’ job - matches our best ever PL finish and wins more trophies in one season than we have in the last 20 put together.

edit: in which Mourinho also beat our current team at its peak in the FA Cup semi of 2018

Arguably with a worse squad than we had then or have now.

Nothing arguable about it. Look at the team that won the Europa League final:

Romero
Valencia Smalling Blind Darmian
Pogba Herrera
Mkhitaryan Fellaini Mata
Rashford
That is a poor team. If he can win a European trophy with that shower, imagine what he could do with Kane, Son, Ndombele, Lo Celso etc.

Agreed, I read something over the last few days and it was about Mourinho and Costa, before matches Jose would tell Costa to be an absolute shithouse to defenders as they don't know how to handle it and it puts them off their game, Jose loved that.
The young Dele had that streak in him but he was always risking a red card, Costa perfected it and (*I don't think) he got a red in all the time he was at Chelsea...a masterclass in shithousery.

It’s more risky now VAR can pull up things the referee has missed. But cheeky little steppy in defender’s toes, bit of verbals, nothing wrong with wind up stuff.

I love that side of the game, Costa used to love a sneaky pinch when no one was looking.
Beautiful to watch an enraged defender with Costa looking holier than thou.

Yeah uhhh VAR literally does anything but that unless its an offside decision where they break it down to an inexact science of millimeters.

Well, who the hell knows how they are gonna apply it week-to-week now it’s come under so much fire.

Look at who they played in the europa league mate. He was expected to challenge Pep for the league that season too and finished lower than where Van Gaal left them.

Fuck me the 360 degree rewriting people are doing on here about Poch-Mou is :banghead:

Ironic because he was never expected to challenge Pep for the league as that was his first season (16/17)

That's not true. All that summer the only thing we heard was how the Pep vs Mourinho rivalry coming to Manchester would shake things up. Pep was expected to win the title. He failed and finished eight points behind us. Mourinho was expected to challenge and the hype over Pogba and Zlatan (who won the league everywhere he went) was huge. The eventual top two - ourselves and Chelsea surpassed expectations over that league campaign from August.

On this forum I definitely recall them being expected to challenge for the title because many of us were bragging how far ahead we were. I certainly did

And it seems so did you

And this is not a dig at you btw. It's just I thought you were spot on then and spot on now looking back. My fundamental point is I'm not changing my opinion on Poch's reign as if he underachieved by not winning back at the point in time we were overachieving. It's like a narrative that what he did was simple and because he inherited the players as if they were considered so good when he got them.

I hope Mourinho does a FANTASTIC job and gets us over the line. That's what he's here for. The foundations have been laid by others and he needs to do some bolstering and apply the finishing touches which he has always done before.
