If it was biting wouldn't they be selling? Think it is more to do with ascensio's injury.
I've no idea, I'm guessing. I read they stopped Bale going for free which was surprising (that they'd let him go for free), you'd have thought they could get a hefty fee for him but also if they sell Bale and James, that's two players they'd need, so transfer fees coming in, plus maybe they have to do some book balancing what with wages and all that, just a guess. Probably wrong :D

Pepe agreed to join Arsenal.

They were quite solid with Holding at CB last season until his injury so their defence may not be as bad as some think.

They are being really quite aggressive in the market. Not sure show they are doing it but depending on who you believe, they’ve beaten off some big rivals for Saliba, Ceballos and now Pepe.

Maguire phones in sick and didn’t turn up for training with Leicester.

Bit poor for me that, he should be professional and be reporting for training until any deal is done.

He won 9 penalties last season. Arsenal really going for the VAR penalties next season targeting players like him and zaha. typical scum

£72m PLUS add ons according to the Guardian. So much for being skint.

Was watching the Ligue 1 review last night and They had some commentators on their talking about stuff such as best player, best young player, player to look out for etc - they barely mentioned Pepe which I thought was a bit bizarre. They were talking more about the younger lad they have there - Leao, I think.

Could he be another overrated type? I remember when Dembele exploded at Rennes and everyone was going crazy about him, he signed for Dortmund for relatively good fee and did well there before the massive money move to Barca where he's really struggled to live up to the hype.

Could Pepe be from a similar mould? He doesn't even have the luxury of going to another club first - straight into the big money move with all the pressure etc.

I wonder what transfer is going to be the catalyst to spark a bit of a frenzy, there's normally one big deal that's holding up a few others as people wait to see what happens. Perhaps Lukaku, Bale, Maguire or Pogba.

Martial & Ousmane Dembele - two young "superstars" of the French league who struggled the moment they left it in big money moves.
Mbappe made the right decision by staying in France for his first big move.

No guarantee at all that Pepe will be a success at Arsenal, but that's their gamble to take.

Well, it'll be in quite a few installments. So they've tied up a fair amount of transfer budget for the next five or so years.

Thought I read that the Napoli deal fell through because they weren't willing to pay majority up front.
Arsenal therefore must be stumping up a lot straight away.

Only £20m, according to reports.

I think that's a little untrue of Martial. His first season was generally successful at Man Utd. Hit the ground running and that was his best scoring season for them netting 17 goals. Unsurprisingly when Mourinho came in that's when Martial began to underwhelm/wasn't as successful.

Has there been many/any big moves yet?

Was just wondering if clubs out side of England are waiting to see what we do before our window closes.

Most won't be able to compete on fees with the TV deals in the PL but prices might drop once PL clubs can't buy, so are holding off

Well the biggest deals not involving an English club is probably Joao Felix going to Atletico for 100+mil and Griezmann going from Atletico to Barcelona

Yeah the Griezmann deal covered it.

Not sure who's gonna kick it off in England, normally you get one club spending mad and that triggers a load of deals, I guess Maguire to Utd could potentially kick something off but we'll see.

You realise we are taking just as big a gamble on N’Dombele? You can find players from all leagues that have flopped or succeeded, have to trust the scouting and manager that they choose well.
