As a club we always act like we have more important things to challenge for than the cups.

But reality is we should have bagged a load of EFL Cups, FA Cups, conference leagues and Europa leagues In the last ten years or so.
Well said sir. But if you read what many on here say they think those competitions are beneath us. Their only function is to give the manager a chance to give the second string a run out. Sad. We used to be club famous for winning Cups.

I wonder, does this apply to Ange? He literally said what I posted verbatim.

If we'd won, there would be zero complaining about the rotation. In fact, many would be praising how well the other players have been able to implement Ange's style of football .

If people aren't ready to accept that this system will take time to implement , that there will be bumps on the road and that there will be times where it seems that Ange has got it wrong, then you're better off tuning out right now and saving yourselves the stress.

I stand by what I wrote. Ange was wrong to make 9 changes and I would have said the same if we’d won. If he wouldn’t pick that same 11 for a PL game then he shouldn’t pick it for a cup game. Every game should be taken equally seriously or we might as well not enter the competition in the first place

That might be your opinion, but it doesn't change the fact that it's common practice.

Should we just let guys like Lo Celso and Solomon rot on the bench the whole time until someone gets injured?
No you continually rotate 2 or 3 players into the starting 11 each game so everyone is getting game time and rest. It’s not rocket science. Pep does it all the time. It’s why MCity players are all fresh in the last quarter of the season.

I can’t believe the number of you who are making excuses for Postecoglou. He’s in a job to win trophies. You don’t experiment when you’ve drawn a PL team away. A League 1 or 2 team at hone maybe but to do it against a good PL team away from home is criminal negligence.

Criminal negligence? Seriously? It was Ange's 4TH game in charge. I'm tapping out right now, pal. I've read it all :LOL:

For the sake of fuck!!!

I thought we were supposed to be giving Ange time?
This was the chance for him to learn about his squad in a proper game situation and while yes, I too thought we made too many changes, I can also see why he may have made the decisions that he did.

He'll have learnt a lot from tonight but it appears as though some of our fans have learnt nothing.
Give the man some time, we're not an overnight fix.
We’re out of a cup, we maybe had a good chance of winning, in our first game but Ange will have learnt a lot from tonight. That’s comforting.

how much more evidence does anyone need that this second string is completely useless? How many more completely winnable cup ties must we lose before the penny drops

FFS, rotate in a league game if you really need evidence of how below par our back up Players are. But for just one season as an experiment can we just try and win a trophy like we used to in the olden days.

Before I was 21 I had seen us win two UEFA cups and 3 FA cups. But in the last 34 years i have seen us win just two lousy league cups, and notjhing for 15 years
I feel your pain. As I said in an earlier post; we used to famous for winning cups. Now we’re just famous for bottling cups.

Sorry Ange but it’s a bullshit argument. Unless his preferred starting 11 get struck down with something he is never ever going to pick that starting 11 in a PL game, or a big cup game. So watching them all playing together doesn’t really tell him how any of them individually would perform if he rotated them into his preferred starting 11. It would have been more enlightening if he’d made say 5 changes where he could see clearly how the new 5 performed along side his regulars. How someone plays in the B team doesn’t really tell you how they’d play in the A team because they are not surrounded by the same quality of players.

I honestly could not possibly disagree with you anymore.

It's this type of thinking that meant we were gifted one of the greatest strikers of our generation from our academy, but have sweet fuck all to show for it.

If over the last 10 years we'd prioritised winning the cups over the leagues, then I'm very confident we'd have multiple trophies to show for it. Maybe a couple FA cups and league cups, 1 or 2 European cups.

But instead what we have is a couple of top 4 finishes and a couple golden boot winners, brilliant.

And I'm sorry because I don't mean to tear into you personally and I know that this was probably just a throwaway comment you made, but christ we have to get out of this '🎶Top 4 is our everything🎶' mindset that has crept into the club under Levy's ownership.

It is the only way that we will get this club back on the right track and start winning silverware again. Rant over.
Brilliant post. There used to be a football club there.

Forster made a few good saves, he’s not a bad back up

We’re lucky we have Maddison, Bissouma, Sarr & Bentancur
...and Udogie, Porro....chuck in VdV plus improved Romero and there we have the reason things have been going so well. Attack problems are hidden with the above group.

What do you learn against a league 2 team? If you do it against a league 2 team then you are clearly only doing it to rest players. This was not about sacking off a cup if it was we wouldn't have drawn the game.

Rubbish. The terrible performance was clear as day for everyone to see.

Tbf to the gaffer, some of those chosen last night were decent in pre season, only go through the pre-season chat to see for yourself.

whilst we know what some of those players are capable of, the manager has to see if they are adapting to his way of playing I guess.

same responses though - I just don’t want to see the same in the FA cup now, literally less then 50 games this season now

Wish I could winner this x1000.

PLEASE PRIORITISE WINNING CUPS.
Agree with everything here other than the first line.

I think I speak for most when I say that we're not freaking out because of the performance in the game.
The issue is that we have put out our B squad in the cup for the umpteenth time in the last 10 years. The only cup we have prioritised in the last decade is the Champions League, and we have borderline given up on competing for any other cup in favour of trying to get into the Champions League. It's been posted already but I'm going to post it again.

All those games that were lost. What would be interesting is to see how the draw for the next rounds of each competition played out. Just to see who we would have played all the way to the final.
I don’t know but I’m betting it would not have been an easy path to winning a trophy.

That's the thing though, you have to give everything all the time to win it once in a while.
We've already given up, hence no trophy.

Wow.

We knew there’d be bumps along the road. I thought we’d all accepted it, and we all knew he’d have to take risks.

l’m loving Ange's style of football, long may it continue. See you all lapping it up at the weekend.
