It is strange because Di Marzio wasn’t ever really that big on Conte to us in the summer, he was the only journo that was holding back.

Surely it wouldn’t be all over the news like this if it was just a ploy to get United to pull the trigger.
I mean something is in it, but something was in it last summer too, it's just an agreement wasnt met.

Many reasons why Conte wouldn't want to wait for the utd job. Including, well London is more attractive but also hed be waiting for a sacking that may never come, for an offer that may never come. Paratici is also close to Conte. Working with Kane and Son would also be a big draw to a manager who plays in the way he plays.

Incredible, except it's all too credible. Wouldn't back Conte in the summer, now we might.
Well I wanted Conte then and hope we get him now, meantime we've wasted a third of a season
Except that Conte knows that, and has probably upped his demands accordingly. So the budget he wanted preciously that now we agree to is now not enough. And we get the line, we tried but...

Just don't invest yourself too much in the story, that way you won't be raging when it inevitably doesn't happen.

We're not even sure it's real from our end yet. If our journos start reporting it then we know we are making a move.

The more reports the merrier but I’m not so convinced that having our journos reporting it necessarily carries as much weight as implied. Can’t forgot that “club mouthpiece” Ally Gold was so convinced the club was appointing Antonio Conte last summer that he made an hour long video discussing our future with him.

I'll believe it when I see it regarding Conte. He'd be an exciting appointment, but there are no guarantees even with him. We heard a lot about guaranteed success when we rolled the dice with Mourinho and we saw how that turned out.

We certainly need a manager with a big personality who will impose a functional system on this team and make it competitive. And we can't have another guy who'll be replaced within a season. We need something that works for at least a while longer than that. Aside from becoming a banter club with the managerial upheaval, surely we're wasting a lot of money on them that could be used to better effect elsewhere.

I didn't expect Nuno to be out before the next game, but I can't say he has a strong case to stay after several beatings to three goals and such long stretches without meaningful attacks. I'd hoped for so much more from him in how the team performed and he's been unable to deliver. And I don't think Paratici should survive another lame appointment either.

I saw this quote in the ESPN article:

"However, the level of hostility from the club's supporters inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend is said to have surprised many senior figures at the club."

They can't be that deaf/blind to the fans' concerns, can they?

Didn't Levy and company refuse to meet with the Supporters group earlier this month/last month? That would have been a helpful meeting for them to take if they wanted to get a pulse of how the fans were feeling.

Yeah it'll be Conceição.

Easy to get out of Porto as he's ready for the next move.

Easy to contact him and convince him to come.

He's already come into a club who were struggling with relegation places and taken them up to 7th by playing positive football (Nantes).

Paratici knows him well after Porto knocked out Juventus last year.

Everyone else is going to be too tough to convince or get out of their contract.

Looking at his results last season, his tactical flexibility is refreshing. Looks like he'll ( to the best of his and his teams ability ) tailor make a formation for specific teams. Porto's run in the CL last year was solid. Eventually losing to the would be champions.

Also this description about how his teams play:

He’s built a fantastic team at Porto using a very fluid 4-4-2 with the fullbacks charging forward and the wingers drifting into central spaces. He likes having the ball (top possession in the league) and wants to move it quickly with short passes to stress opposing defensive structures. Without the ball, he presses with a front five, hoping to force opponents into mistakes, and also uses a very high defensive line.

Just really not looking forward to the 2-3 months of the new manager thinking Winks > NDombele like every manager before him.

Ah, so we've come to that time of the year when Levy likes to visit Harrods, to look at the nice baubles there...

...and then leaves the store to pick up something from Wilko on his way home.

It would be hilarious if Nuno's last act was to save Solskjaer's job so that we can get Conte.

No chance in hell though

I never changed my avatar, I feel in someway responsible for these rumours starting up again.

Don't know why I do it to myself....

Welcome Conte.

I really don't want Conte, he doesn't fill me with hope for the future as I can only see it causing trouble but if he comes I guess there'll at least be some excitement around the club. What I predict though is that if we sack Nuno whoever we bring in will piss off a load of fans who will start slagging him off from day one.

He

He sets up his teams to win! But also play football as well. The passion this guy shows as well is exactly what we need.
Sounds like Moureen all over again ( realising only way to get points on the board with this lazy group is two deep lying banks of 5). Mind you , who ever it is I’m open minded and they get my full support.

On one hand I feel for Nuno. After the shambles in the summer he was clearly down the list of preferred managers and never got the support of the fans or frankly the senior management who I feel were going ahead with transfers of players into the club, but tellingly also who was allowed to leave (and who didn't leave). Ultimately it's left Nuno with a fractured squad with a number of players who we know are toxic to the environment and should have been sold years ago.

On the other hand - he has played drab boring defensive football, showed limited tactical nous and his substitutions are baffling. Additionally, his reason for leaving Wolves was allegedly down to mental health / burnout etc. If that's the case then there's no way he should have accepted the job and should have gone for the time out he needed. Ultimately it's cost him his job, his health, pissed off the fans, created a dour atmosphere and left many fans completely disconnected from the club. The Kane debacle would have been tough for a lot of managers and we don't know how Nuno dealt with it, but it feels like a manager with more balls would have dropped him by now to the benefit of the rest of the team.

It was never going to work and i'm fucked off with Levy & Co for sanctioning it in the first place. Instead of a shit kneejerk appointment they should have kept on with a caretaker until the right person was available. Hopefully that person will be announced this week - but I have zero faith in Levy to get it right.
