Coentrao will be one of the most sought after LB should he come available - teams like Anzhi, PSG, Chelski, ManU will be bidding for him...so go figure if he'd still want to join Spurs...
Nah, Luke Shaw and Lucas Digne are more realistic targets.

Is this directed at me?

If so, don't post in here so you won't get alerts. It's quite simple.
or stop posting players who are clearly never ever gonna even think of coming to spurs! You and the other guy need to stop it. its silly. Who next? RVP because no goals in 10? Rooney has fallen out with fergie.? We can all read a paper and the shit that goes in it pal. 15m on a left back? just fucking stop it. simple.

It's a topic for discussion. As you can see, other things come from discussions on a singular "linked" player. If he fits, why he wouldn't, who we have that will get the job done, who else might be better. The thread hardly starts and ends with the player in the title of the thread.

Also, I'm not quite sure why you think I'm posting endless threads on endless players. Just taking a glance on the first page of the "Transfer Rumors" section, this is the only one I've started.

Your contribution to this thread has been very worthy of the bandwidth occupied from your post. For one that is so concerned with jamming up the site, your posts have arguably been more useless than an awful link to a player out of our reach.

You can respond to this with your diatribe if you so choose. But this'll be the last time I respond to your comment as it completely takes away from a discussion that could be occurring in this thread. But hey, thanks for posting here!

Jamming up the site? ok. discussing transfers? you need to get real pal or get a life if you think any of these players you keep blabbing about are gonna pull on a spurs jersey.

No apologies necessary. Undoubtedly there will be links to players that in no world would really come to fruition. But it's not always about the player. Sometimes people can present new and interesting ideas when going off on tangents in these same "outlandish" threads.

That being said, reasons why Coentrao could work (all of which are contingent upon a now fading hope of Champions League): He's Portuguese (AVB is as well), he'd come here and be the unquestioned LB so long as he's fit and his wages aren't that wild at Real Madrid and AVB obviously is familiar with him given he faced him while at Porto.

As someone mentioned, he is reportedly on 2m at Real Madrid. He turned down Chelsea's offer in 2011 for a salary worth double that amount for an opportunity to play for Real Madrid. So, essentially he's making 38,461.54 a week which is less than BAE. We could realistically offer him £50k (or 58651.50) a week wages and he'd fit our wage structure comfortably given BAE and Rose would be gone (Rose has stated he doesn't want to be a bench player).

However, It's tough to say if he's still okay with splitting time at LB with Marcelo with Marcelo getting the lion's share of starts when he's fit. He might truly be in love with Real Madrid and despite not getting as much time as he could elsewhere, he may be completely content where he is. And, no one is going to challenge that other clubs will be interested (and bigger ones, at that). It's easy to list the reasons why he wouldn't, so I provided some to shed light on why he would.

See we're being linked with Pereira as well. That would make a lot more sense for a multitude of different reasons.

Either way, im sorry! its a forum to discuss and i went to far. Input is always good snarl. And you are correct that marello will always start infront of him as he is the better player imo. The riches of some clubs is wrong for back up players, lets hope the fair play rules kick some of it out.

I remember back when we were playing them in the Europa League the fans of Inter were adamant he's been pretty bad. Which is interesting because I was under the impression that he's been pretty solid (good amount of chances created - 25, decent enough pass completion % - 79%, Squawka has him at 0 defensive errors that led to a goal). So, it's hard to say who is right. I feel as though a lot of the times fans tend to harp on the negative and exacerbate things - at least I know our fans do.

My personal preference remains to be Lucas Digne. I think the world of the kid and he's still only improving at 19. Coming from outside of the EPL and not being English will help his transfer fee a ton. Ben Davies and Luke Shaw will cost a pretty penny. Digne did just recently sign a new contract, however. But, we've all seen that interest from the right club and the right offer being put down on the table can overcome a measly contract extension.

Whilst I accept the arguments that if Real sold Coentrao there would be a number of wealthy clubs interested I don't actually see a deal as impossible. Early this season when things were not going well he was talking about going back to Benfica not ev en the biggest payers in the Portugese league, so the attraction of playing in the PL for a Portugese coach could be an attractive one if he is still unhappy at Real, though I think that's not as clear cut now as earlier

But if we did decide the do a deal for Bale with Real then believe me they are not so flush with funds that they wouldn't be trying to throw a few players at us and pushing them in our direction

I think if we make CL Bale won't be going anywhere, I think even if we don't he might still give it another year although that might be more likely if Levy actually shows some real ambition in the transfer market, but you should never say never in football, a couple of seasons back everyone thought the big clubs would be fighting over Falcao but he ended up at AM, These things happen.

So I think rumours however far fetched shouldn't always be dismissed out of hand and anyway it does then create a discussion on the merits of the player, the needs for a player in that role and the potential alternatives all of which are worthy points for discussion in my humble opinion

The only way we will get him is if he is part of a deal for Bale going in the opposit direction. I can't imagen we would spend 15 odd mil on a left back when we may not even spend that on a striker.

I wouldnt pigeon hole him as a left back, AVB might see him as a winger. Anyway to me it doesnt matter if he's a left back or not, he's well worth 15 mill imo, whether he'd come to us or not is a different story.

Don't get me wrong, I completely agree that he is worth the cash, I would just be surprised if Levy sanctions a move and even if he did if he would even come.

Yeah, I know what you mean, I just think if you've got a chance to improve the team then take it no matter what position on the field they play. Luke Shaw would likely cost 14/15 million with add ons, Baines would probably be more than 15 mill. The Scum recently spent 8 million on a fullback thats not guarenteed a start. If we wanna hang with these types of teams we need to think big like they do.
