He had some great touches last night and has a lot of ability, but he's dumb and his decision making is schoolboy at times.

He really seemed to settle down last season, perhaps because he knew Lennon wasn't coming back in a hurry. He just looked like he was too desperate to make a big impression last night instead of keeping the ball and keeping it simple.

To be honest though he always looks like that, although in fairness he doesn't get the games so maybe that's why. If he did tone it down a bit and stopped trying to be clever then i'm sure he'd get more games. Just proves how thick he is i guess. Undoubtably has talent though.

Don't worry about Bentley,he will come good - just needs a couple of games to find his form.

Well it's been two years and he has been subs-standard so I won't hold my breath.

One of the worst performances from a Spurs player I have seen in a long time. He gave the ball away so cheaply at one point, which prompted Niko to get off the bench. Unfortunately it seemed Sandro had to come off. Bentley has nice technique but that is it. He is slow, doesn't use the ball well, goes for Hollywood too often and doesn't track back well enough.

Lennon is way out of form but by a long stretch the superior player. I would right now like to see a third option out there.

He was never going to play well on the left of a midfield 5 or front 3, whatever it was meant to be. He had some good touches, some poor ones, but any blame for his performance has to be shared by Redknapp for selecting him on the left.

He can be fantastic but the other night he looked short on confidence, desperate to impress and a bit lost in that position.

Bentley biggest and major problem is that he has absolutely no pace whatsoever. This then prohibits him from being able to beat his man, get away from tight spots and creating space to allow him to be effective.

He desperately needs to play with Hutton just as Lennon needs to play with Charlie behind him. An overlapping Fullback would provide his game with the pace and penetration he needs and give someone to aim at with his cute little tricks and lay-offs. Beckham had the benefit of Neville who would charge to the byline, pass back to Beckham which would give him the space to measure a decent cross.

Didn't Bently start on the right and move to the left when Lennon came on at half time? Don't think playing on the left should make a huge difference for a player like Benley anyway.

Bentlys problem for me is he has to do a step over or flick or something every time he gets the ball. He never plays the ball first time unless he's trying something spectacular. It's like he feels he has to show how good he is all the time. Maybe it's because he hasn't had many starts so he's trying to show what he can do?

Think he just needs to work hard out of possession, play simple football and get the ball in the box like he is able to.

Although if it was that simple...

Whether he plays left or right it doesn;t matter he does the same things.
1. Slows play down, he plasy with his head down and never releases the ball quickly.
2. He never stretches the defenders with his off the ball running. whenever BAE ran forward or looked for a forward pass last night Bentley just stays motionless on the sideline every time.
3. Plays with his head down, doesn;t see his team mates, doesn;t interact with the teams play. Selfish player and not a team players
4. He has flashes but thats what he plays for. He does things for his own gain, not the teams. If he doesn't have flashes he would be the biggest waste of space ever. His workrate, team ethic is uselss. He only plays for the flashes of brilliance.

He has natural ability with the football, but doesn't seem like someone who can be coached, we got rid of Taarabt for those reasons. Come on Hughes you know you want him in January...Swap deal for Dembele, who I rate from his dutch play anyway.....

I thought he was one of the better players Tuesday, 'course that was against Livermore, Caulker, Naughton and a brand new Sandro.

His free-kick to Keane was quality and could have been credited as an assist with a bit more luck.
He did a very good £16 million worth of cover but that is not his fault.
On the minus side he only seems able to play RW, I'm afraid in the days of 25 man squads and being in a CL side that isn't good enough, I wondered whether Ramos thought Bentley ould have been a second striker but that didn't work. At the World cup many top sides had players playing not in their favoured positions, VDV did it at the weekend for us which caused a stir amongst some but we had BAE and Bale on the left so it's a matter of finding a way to play our best 11.
I fear Bentley will end up somewhere like Bolton or Birmingham where they can afford to play to his strengths and he'l look decent again. It is a pity pre VDV he was our best dead ball player.

That has to be a joke, his free kicks have been awful since he joined. OK he's scored a couple of nice ones, but his general delivery into the box has been woeful - and he always insists on taking them. Should be banned from indirect freekicks and corners IMO, Hudd, Bale, Kranc should get a go ahead of him. Had a good second half of season last year, in fact was MOM on several occasions when he broke into the side which was a shock. He has something, OK backup, but I think if he can go a summer without getting injured he will be sold, and for his own career sake he should be looking elsewhere. I've noticed he gets the JJ treatment of sighs at the lane whenever he fucks up which must drain his confidence.

What?

He was bloody awful, and being on the 'wrong' side doesn't excuse that. Yes, there were some touches of genuine skill, real quality, but the pure selfishness and stupidity of the go-for-glory Hollywood balls was inexcusable.People complain about his lack of pace, but the real problem is that he appears not to have a brain.

Caulker did just fine, Sandro grew in confidence and gave every indication that he's a great acquisition; Naughton and Livermore's failings I can forgive because they're inexperienced kids. Bentley's had over 150 games at the top level.

thats what Im talking about, and there was precious little of that in the first half. I agree he should pass more. I didnt see much of the second half.

Agree with this fully :)omg: :))...The main things that annoy many about him is his lack of desire to get the ball back when he loses it after yet another poor dribble with no pace and his laziness/lack of awareness when he needs to help out in defence. Goals in Burnley games in last year's CC and the first goal on Tuesday were classic examples of that.

And that had nothing to do with the fact that he was indeed played out of position (that's another story BTW).

I just wonder why Arry never plays Huddlestone on the wing considering how good of a passer he is, just give him the ball and he will whip them with that supreme technique he has, in fact Arry could play him on either wings as he does not have a week foot, right?

Sorry Leetotty were you away on holiday most of last season? Bentley was part of reason that we made 4th position not a great part but a contributor all the same. Slating the guy who has not played a competitive game for several months, who played out of position in a weak team against a group of flyers is just unfair. Harry said "He needed a game" (like Gio). Fitness comes from playing. Both Palacios and Gio have not been injured but largely escape the criticism aimed at Bentley. You get what you see a tricky player who lacks pace but is a fine deliverer of the ball....from the right hand side. He will get fitter and I am sure will again play his part. After all he has no form to lose whereas Lennon who he understudies hsa lost his imo.

I would still have Bentley on the right ahead of Lennon,at least there is a hint that Bentley might improve with more games,Lennon on the other hand has got worse and worse.
Bentley and Kaboul would be a lot more effective on the right than Corluka/Lennon has been so far this season.
I think we should give them a chance.
