A Joke From Gary Mabbutt

It’s my birthday today and I received a phone call from Gary Mabbutt, as do all Season Ticket holders and members aged over 70). It’s partly a courtesy but the club is also looking out for people having a tough time so when he dials Gary doesn’t know if he’s going to have an easy or tough call.

I asked after Gary’s health and he said he was fine and then went on to say I’m doing so well that last year when Romero was injured I called the club to say I was available and, unbelievably, Antonio picked Eric Dier instead. What a mistake!

He's the epitome of someone that you want as club ambassador. A fine player in his time, a role model for people with diabetes and as you say, a gentleman.

Don’t know how came across this, I met him years ago and was genuinely happy to talk. It was outside Harrods, on the street and was with his wife I think. chatted for a good 10 mins, he is a prime example of graft, effort and sheer will over prime technical ability. Would have walked through walls for us if asked.
