I actually don’t care anymore if we get sold to some oil state and get success that way.

Used to hate the idea but part of me feels we have long since sold our soul. We now hire boring managers like Jose contray to our history and we left our home for a more corporate setting.

I guess if we are going to sell our soul and have done already we might as well get some joy off the back of it. We are more customers than fans now and I don’t see that changing so quite frankly I want my moneys worth.

There's a World of difference between hiring boring football Coaches and sports-washing for oppressive, barbaric regimes.

You can't possibly believe this?

Thing is we've seen very big protests from man u fans against the glazers. They literally took the club from the top of the world to an afterthought all whilst saddling it with debt. And these protests did next to nothing.

There might be something to the idea the these southern fans are small c conservatives and are not cut out for such movements but there are countless other explanations. Psychological analysis like yours is seldom correct and often suggests something else.

I can believe that the amount of times the ENIC defence I have heard has been ‘’be careful what you wish for’’, ‘’grass isn’t always greener’’.

By the way it’s a legitimate defence but it’s the argument that is most used.

yeh and we are part of it whether we like it or not, we buy and sell players from them and compete accepting things as they are, shouldn’t have happened but it has. I don’t blame Newcastle fans or Chelsea fans for the government allowing it.

If you want to remove that element on that basis then it’s supporting and watching lower or non-league football which is tempting.

Ossie Ardiles should have been given more time as Spurs manager.

Glen too.
I loved Ossie's bravery. Some of the football early in his final season was outstanding. Ipswich away was probably the pinnacle.

But playing Walker over Thorstvedt? I know Erik was injury prone at the time but still...

Playing Kerslake over Austin? Austin had his faults but was much better than Kerslake.

Playing Nethercott at all and then next to an inexperienced Campbell with Mabbutt looking on.

Playing Calderwood in midfield? Howells proved he was much better for that role when Gerry the Mullet came in.

Some shocking decisions in there. Everyone focuses on the front 5 as the reason for us leaking goals. While there is some merit in that, the jokers Ossie picked at the back signed his death warrant regardless of the lack of protection.

Was still fun though.

Royal is a better wing back and full back than Porro.

Selling Trippier was one of the biggest mistakes we've made in the last 5 years.

Ndombele isn't fat.

@Archibald&Crooks Hasn't banned you from the transfers thread unfairly, it's always justified even if you think you have done nothing wrong. You have.

There’s a lot of truth in all that but you cannot replicate the atmosphere of old grounds with the intimacy and obviously the standing, which is completely different to ‘safe standing’ these days

Also you have to factor in the overall demographic of the supporters going to watch premier league football these days!
Can't disagree with that.

The expectation is higher due to cost (I deserve my moneys worth), which also prices out the younger demographic who tend to be more passionate and positive than old farts like me.

Our inability to replace Kyle Walker and Danny Rose was actually the biggest issue since 2017. Their tireless energy and pace opened up so much for us.

How is this a controversial opinion?

I thought controversial opinions are those like "Nuno was the right hire at the right time".
I'll go there. Nuno would have been fine if we'd properly bought into the rebuild mentality at the time. £100m from Kane given to Paratici and Nuno to put towards that and we might've saved ourselves treading water and inevitably sinking this last 2 seasons.

Agreed. I would go further to say we should have got more than £50m for Walker. At the time he was arguably the best RB in the league, homegrown and going into his prime. He has also got better with age!

Also, Son is a lovely bloke and one of my 3 favorite players ever. But let’s be honest, he is one of the biggest reasons why we never really got close to winning the league. When he’s on, it’s brilliant, he legitimately has patches where he’s top 5 in the world, but he also takes entire months off at a time and loses us crucial matches. He’s not the all-around player who is consistent enough to be world class without goals, and never has been.

Bale’s volley against Stoke is one of the best goals scored in the PL
It’s controversial but I preferred his unbelievable zero back-lift toe punt v Vorm at Swansea

Literally kicked it before the keeper had time to say ‘back of the net’ it was just rude & unfair

It will never happen, but the best signing we could make this Summer is Thiago Silva. He apparently wants to leave Chelsea.

Would sort out our defence, great mentor for Romero. More than anything else he brings leadership.

The step up from Dier to Silva Would be like going from a skateboard to a rolls royce.

I have fond memories of players like Naybet and Davids coming in and doing a job for us.

Not that he would want to come to us, but I'd make an effort. Players with experience like this are vital and what we are always missing in our squad.

Also another controversial opinion is that as long as we don't play him LB or LWB I'd keep Peresic.
