Back from the game,

Vicario - The best compliment I could give him, I forgot he was playing. For a while its been a worry about if the keeper is going to make a nervous and he has looked sus in a spurs shirt but forgot he was even there today

Porro - He had his best game defensively
Romero - Solid
VDV - Played well
Udogie - Brilliant

Bissouma - Had a moussa dembele performance, Unreal
Sarr - He was the player we thought we was getting in Sissoko
Maddison - Brilliant, needed to release a few time early to son but great

Kulusevski - Struggling to get back to speed imo but did well
Son - Adapting to new role but was good at LW
Richarlison - Didn't get any service first half but second half got everyone involved, shouldn't have been taken off
We have a front 3 who are all struggling with their form and adapting to a new system that has them playing different to before(asking them to play wider) and with a striker who wants the ball differently

Not to mention the front 3 have spent the majority of last season struggling with injury and struggling with their confidence in the last year. If they were 3 new signings they would be buzzing and doing better

But with time and patience, something that doesn't happen at spurs, they will get back to top form

Crowd sounded loud and proud, especially from mid-way second half. We battered them at times, and Ange’s style and positivity is everything I hoped for.

After the dour frustrations of the last few years, it’s a welcome release.

Vic and Sarr my motm, for such great home debut performances.

I think people are going a bit ott with this performance, we should have been 1/2 down at half time.

Second half performance was an improvement though.

A lot of positives, number 1 is our number 1 or 13 or whatever. The Italian guy between the sticks. 3 top class saves, and absolutely rock solid.

Porro putting in a better performance (defensively) apart from the first 10 minutes. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Bissouma was great, Sarr also very good. Maddison improved in the second half.

Now for the less positive things....

VDV was a bit wobbly in the first half. Son still not really contributing that much, Richy was schooled by Martinez today as well.

For me players like Davies, Hoijberg and Peresic will be very important to us this season, their experience and quality helped us see out the game.

What is clear for me is this will take a while, young players adapting, Anges style of football and finding out which players suit this system.

Early days but a win, a clean sheet and a good second half performance.

Honestly it could have been 2-2, I re-watched the first half we had chances too, Son shinned one in the first minute, Sarr had a good effort saved, kulu got in behind a few times just couldn't find anyone in the center, we hit the post 3 times

Bisssuma and Sarr, not even close to peak we need to keep hold of these 2 and play them. Could be the best midfield 2 we have had in my time of watching us.

I agree, they missed 2/3 sitters, Bruno and Rashford. But that’s football, I think the more game time the team gets the better we will get. You have to remember this team is going from 2-3 seasons of anti football to Ange who just wants to let them play. That was pretty clear in the second half, I’d say his team talk at half time was something like *why are you scared to play* because in the second half we played some lovely stuff.

the sad thing for me is, it’s clear if we had Harry in this team we would be scoring a shit load.

Bissouma impressed me. Underpins our style of play. Willing to take risks on the ball from deep and covers a wide area; he's essential to us.
Perisic's ball for the second goal was quality. He read the game well and did what most wide players wouldn't do from that position (instead of whipping in a cross he split the defense with a diagonal throughball).
Man Utd wasn't great.

Pape for his moment. Bissouma probably overall. Maddison superb too. Vicario crucial. Thought both fullbacks were outstanding, shout out Pedro for his defensive dominance today.
Porro had a very good game and his pace came in useful for a couple of recovery tackles

We have to keep in mind that we have some young and new players in defence. The most difficult league in the world and we have two 20 year old defenders, a new goalkeeper, etc. The oldest player in the back four is only 24. They aren't going to be perfect immediately, but they will be a force to be reckoned with later in the season.

Congrats Ange..but also Paratici and good fortune . We have 5 'new' players compared to last season, all in great form that have changed our outlook.
Biss (9) Mom rightly praised here, but I'd add that his feints are unreal. He not only wrong foots the players around him, sometimes he wrong foots an entire opponent defence. One Utd player thinking he was going left was simply left lying in the dust as Biss went forward..lovely.What a player.
Sarr (8) great to see a young player bloom, so athletic, often getting a boot in and nicking the ball away.
Udogie (7.5) So athletic too, a powerful presence. A misery to play vs these 3 I reckon, always aggressive and skilful. What a contrast to our overrun midfield last season.
Madds (7) wonderful addition this summer, a smidge off his brilliant Brentford form...captain material ?
Last of the 'new' additions VdV(7) or Jan 2. Looks calm and quality.

Porro(7) looked better yesterday, determined character with good skills.Has had defensive issues, maybe they're being sorted. Romero (8) imperious and no card ! Vic (7) bit calmer.

...and on to the forwards. Kulu (6) looked better late on as Utd left him acres, but he's a worry .Sonny (5) 15 months since he was in form now tells a story, been a wonderful servant ofc, but maybe at 31 his best days are gone....and lastly Richy (5) who I've been cutting some slack because of his energy, but his goal stats are starting to weigh heavily on my belief. Solomon getting surprisingly little game time to show his ability given the poor form of the others. Hopefully not reputation over eyes decisions. Had a belly full of those last few seasons.
The glorious skills of our midfield makes the lack of these in our forwards all the more glaring.

We've GOT to do something about our attack. Surely the bald one isn't gonna just shove the Kane money in his back pocket ? He has to stop fussing over a few million and get these deals done...and while he's at it stop overpricing our own players out of deals. As Ange was saying there's movement at the top range of players but further down much less. Levy needs to bite the bullet.

Overall a wonderful match, its lucky they missed sitters and things could have gone awry 1st half, but fortune favours the bold and Ange is certainly that.

Bissouma again.
Sarr took a deceptively difficult chance well
Maddison completes a dominant trio.
8's all
Midfield rules OK
Keeper v. good today.
They all appear to be enjoying themselves.
Which is nice.

Choppier waters ahead but Ange has got them organised
and confident in their abilities.

Son and Kulu grew into the game
but Richarlison a big worry.

Was at the game yesterday - my first in 12 months following my leukaemia diagnosis. Wasn’t sure what kind of game to expect but wow! I really didn’t expect that.

Firstly the crowd were incredible - what an atmosphere.

in terms of the players I agree with most of what has been said. I gave MOM to bissouna - I haven’t seen a spurs player look as comfortable on the ball in a long time.

I do disagree with some of the harsh comments re: Son thought. I thought he played well, especially in the second half.

Son, Maddison and Udogie showed some understanding developing I think Son might be on the comeback trail.

Kulusevski was poor in my opinion

Porro is still terrifying defensively although the best he has been so far it’s still below an average performance from Emerson

Vicario marked improvement from last week fair play to him, I don’t think Gary Neville likes him for some reason as didn’t praise some pretty top notch saves

Have changed my vote from Sarr to Biss both brilliant but having just watched the match again on Spursplay think Biss gets it. Spursplay worth the money in my opinion to see the whole game from a different perspective from my seat in the stadium ( someone actually it called a soulless bowl in a recent post :) )

Hi all , an old time poster here who has not really posted much on here over the years even though I do still always check the website...I am now under a different name . Anyway... Yesterday was the First time I've been to a game In ages! I used to be a season ticket holder for many years and go to games every week. Since covid I really just went off football in General really.. All the money in it, VAR, etc then having to watch the dross under Mourinho and C*nte. I had found better things to do with my weekends.... But I do admit even how bad things were and not really watching much football in general I have always streamed every spurs game, even all the pre-season games . There is something that always makes me watch them even when we were getting thumped, sitting back, not being able to string two passes together , hoofing the ball up the pitch, players looking like they don't have a clue . I still ended up watching them.

We got rid of our season tickets finally just after COVID. So yesterday a friend of mine offered me a ticket , I couldn't resist . First home game under Ange, half 5 Saturday KO, lovely summer weather , Ange's style of football , I just had to do it!!!

We got to the stadium maybe a couple of hours before , and walked to the Bricklayers pub, where we used to drink sometimes and always had fun with good atmosphere.Even though it was busy , something didn't seem quite right , there was no singing , nothing . We had a beer or two in there hoping things would get going after everyone had a few more but to my disappointment nothing. Maybe the odd "Come On You Spurs" so then we walked up a bit to see if some of the kebab houses we used to go were still there..No nothing , there were a few new nail bars! But we didn't fancy them.. 😊So then we decided to try another pub which I forget the name of now but when we got to the door they say "Sorry lads it's far too busy in here , you're better of going in to ground " so we go back to the Bricklayers for a bit to have a beer as I don't like to get into the stadium too early! We couldnt get to the outside bit..I guess that is where most of the atmosphere is but there was just no singing in or around the stadium .

After downing our pints we start walking to the ground , again there wasn't really a buzz about the place like old times, no where near as much as I thought there would be for the first home game against Man u. We walk up the steps and have to get out all your new technology on your phones to try and scan the barcodes. After finally working it out we get into the West Stand. ( I've sat here many times when I was younger so I know it's not the best atmosphere)

We walk up the steps , sweating after a few stops. But finally make it to the bar with about 15 mins to go to kick off and I'm shocked to find you can still buy beer (it used to always be they stopped serving half n hour before I believe.) Down our beers and are able to have a piss in under 5 mins without swimming through piss and shit. Yay!!! There is a few things I like about the new stadium ;)

Anyway to the game....

I thought we started poor. Man u looked quite good and used the pitch well. We wasn't really keeping the ball as well as I hoped we would be under Ange , and seemed to be quite sloppy.

Man u had I think two chances when they should of scored, Fernades missed with two open headers.I'm really not sure how he missed them. On another day they score.

Destiny , Van De who I really like and have been impressed with looked a bit shaky and even got caught on the ball at times . And man u seemed to be getting alot of space out left and were looking dangerous . (2nd half Destiny and Van De were much better !)

Anyway we seemed to grow into the game as it went on and we finished the half quite strongly after a bit of a disappointing start. The atmosphere was the same , it just didn't seem to get going , it would start then kinda stop . I think this was partly where I was sitting.

So HT I felt slightly disappointed. I felt we did okay and again showed glimpses of some really good football. But felt man u should of scored although we should of later on in the first half.

Anyway after HT pint back up to our seats, things started to change . The atmosphere picked up and we were on top , we started playing the football i had been hoping to see and the glimpse we have seen in pre-season and Brentford , the one two stuff stuff, moving the ball around quickly.. and we started to dominate . We got the goal and we were really on top but again straight after the goal we did give it away cheaply and they hit the bar, another day that also goes in but we reacted well again and we kept going and attacking ,we should of scored another two of three . I did feel this was the time to get the next goal to win it or they would probably get another chance. Luckily we did get the deserved goal and that seemed to kill the game . I felt like we had won it then. But I still felt we needed to keep the ball better especially near the end. We was two nill up and this would be the perfect time to keep the ball , how Ange wants us to play . Just kill the game out, just keep it , pass it around , even at the back if need be. But we did still seem to give it away cheaply at times.

In the end it was a very good result , the atmosphere got better and felt a bit more like it used to at the old WHL.

Overall we played okay . Again glimpses of what is to come. I don't think man u were really bad like some people have been saying . They made some nice moves , kept the ball well at times , especially out wide and they were unlucky not to be winning but you could say the same about us. I guess goals change games. I am happy with the result and of course beating man u finally at the new stadium . There are still things to be worked on and I hope to see us play and keep the ball even better. As I say we have seen glimpses of what is to come.

An excited spurs fan again who can't wait to see us keep the ball and pass it around again!

Sarr MOTM for me.

COYS!

was son that impressive?
I thought Son was fantastic, yes. People underestimate how difficult it is for him to suddenly play without Kane by his side. Had he finished that chance where Shaw somehow blocked his shot, I bet he'd get MoM for this display. He also created three fantastic chances for Sarr, Porro, and Udogie. In any case he was nowhere near the Son ghost of last season. Same for Kulusevski, btw.
