Don't get me wrong. I'm fully behind Nuno. He needs some time. But the fact that he has Dele playing the 8, Dier as the captain, and seems to rate Lucas as something more than a rotational option is a big red flag for me.
Odd comment.

First - where would you play Dele in a 433?

Second, Dier has seniority, which is really how these decisions are made in pre-season, not to mention, Dier is undoubtedly one of the leaders in the squad, even if you don't think he should be playing.

why do we back off all the time FFS annoying
Because we spent a year with a manager who we're told only had very light training sessions and therefore didn't really work on pressing or the necessary fitness for it at all.

I miss having an animated coach on the sidelines though - love how Tuchel always seems to be losing his shit.

Dier is captain (and playing) because none of our other centre backs are available and Lloris, Kane (boo) are available.
Dele is playing as an 8 because neither Lo Celso or Ndombele are ready yet and we have no-one else to play that role other than Winks.
Lucas won't be a starter if we have a new CF or Kane returns.

It's worth noting Poch made Kaboul captain and started with Adebayor and other players who let us down badly.

Why? Because you don't alienate the squad from day one, you need to let the bigger names down gradually and carefully.
