Mate, it's our opening game of the season, away from home, and we won. With a clean sheet. And our new record signing with the winning goal.

Here's some advice: if you're not happy today, just give up. Find another hobby.

I think someone needs to up their diazepam dosage (y)

Yeah today wasn't the most exciting game but tbh, i want something to shout about and puff out my chest to and that means we got to win something this season. If it means we win something, whether it be the league, or any of the cups by playing the way we play at the moment, I couldn't care less.

tottenham's dull football is a result of avb, it's not just a natural occurence. bale masked avb's deficiencies last season, had he not belted in 30 yard winners every game we could've finished well down the table. it wasn't by design that bale had to save us numerous times. it's not my problem people can't be objective, the football is dull and we're a team of hard working, solid players. crystal palace were atrocious today, they looked like they were one step up from sunday league but we still had to cough and splutter our way over the line.

you've been bitching about AVB for awhile now I've noticed, why not just get if off your chest and start an AVB OUT thread?

You have a point, and some on here seem too quick to dismiss it with the old '3 points is 3 points' line.

There were a lot of games last season where we looked static, clueless, and uninspired. There were far too many games where fairly ordinary teams were dictating the play, or comfortably controlling our predictable attacks. A lot of Bale's goals were of his own making.

We look solid, but we need an element of unpredictability and initiative that players like Modric and VDV were able to bring to the team.

Good post. I think you're spot on actually. The team we had with Modric and VDV was a joy to watch at times. Some of the football we played was amazing.

However under AVB we've looked consistently solid. I still think the lack of movement is shockingly bad at times, and we're not easy on the eye at all, but we look like a much tougher side to break down.

My only concern, which I share with the OP, is that I can see a lot of low scoring games, including a lot of dropped points in 0-0 draws. I'm also worried that whilst we're built to break up play in the middle, we have very little creativity. If we're losing a game I wouldn't have much confidence in us finding two goals from somewhere.

didn't we come back from losing positions a hell of a lot last season?

VDV went on to have an injury ravaged, nothingy season after he left us, it's worth remembering. Contributed less for Hamburg, in a lesser league, than Dempsey did for us, who was supposedly not up to the task of replacing him

Love the guy but you may as well say we shouldn't have flogged Klinsmann the difference it would have made to us now

Exactly, Rafa is a walking injury now!

His time has been sadly, so why do people keep harking on.

There is a lot of truth in this, and the OP. We don't seem to understand how to make space, give the man on the ball options and ask questions of defences. We have a lot of lazy, static players that look the product of bad/non-existent coaching in this area of the game. AVB talks a load of good stuff about 'quick horizontal/vertical passing blah blah blah' which sounds good in theory, but I hardly ever see us playing at any tempo. We all laugh at Brenton up in Scouseland but to be fair the last few months every time I have watched them I see signs of progress and a lot more fluidity in their attacking play.

Our attacking game really needs to evolve this season. I don't think you can grind out results for ever, with or without Bale.

He has a point there should be better movement, morepassing, more pressing, more control of the game more ideas its not clicking really we have grinded out points and the Prem is one of those leagues where grinding our points is often the need rather than flashy wins but its to early again to say one way or the other whats going to happens. Massive upheaval this summer not helping.

I can;t quite work you out Blake I know often agree with what your saying when you critique our performances but its hard to take seriously when one of your favorite players epitomises everything your are complaing about.

if you're referring to benny then i'd say he's the opposite of boring. he's a character, he has flair and can do things with the ball at his feet. avb doesn't like him because he's a bit of a wild card, avb wants safe. avb wants a team of james milners.

What AVB is doing is giving the team solidity, a good base to stand on, and from there I'm certain that we will see an entertaining side with quick and clever football. Winning 1-0 by a penalty may not be the Spurs way, and no, winning isn't everything - of course we all want to see Spurs win 4-0 while playing exciting football at breakneck speed. Football is about entertainment, but we still need that solid base to stand one. We've got a world class keeper who is a great safety net and who has, and will continue, to save us. The back 4 has the potential to be very, very solid and the midfield is nothing short of beastly and extremely solid and we've now got that striker who can (and will!) score plenty of goals. What we lack is that creative spark, but we lost Rafa VdV and Luka Modric - the two of them are creativity embodied and they are not easily replaced, but give it more than one season and one game FFS.

We will see more creative players signed and the already creative players we've got will only get better and better as the team gels and AVBs philosophy becomes more visible throughout the team.

Sure, Bale did paper over alot of cracks last season but at least Levy, Baldini and AVB are looking to solve that. Last season we almost signed Moutinho (if ITK and media got that right), we were after Willian and this season we're rumoured to be in for Lamela, Willian again and Eriksen. Three very creative players who will all up our game and make it more exciting to watch.Other than that we've got Dembele who can pick a pass, Carroll with great vision and a very good pass and Holtby who is a bit of a Jack of all trades, but he too has got a bit of a creative flair.

Fergie did fuck all when he first joined United. When he retired he was the most succesful manager of all times. I'm not saying that AVB will be a new Fergie as far as success goes, but we need to let him put his brand on the team. Don't judge him until Spurs are playing his brand of football with the players he needs to play it.

Rome wasn't built in one day.

So WHO do you want in charge?

It's all very well slating AVB, you're entitled to your opinion, but unless you state an argument for another choice, you just come across as moaning for the sake of it. That just makes you sound like my ex missus.

So you clearly don't want AVB, what are the alternatives?

The season is long.

Don't want to be tiring after Christmas... I expect a solid, unremarkable but improving start.
