no, as i said, i can tell that from one year of avb. home games have been especially boring, 30 minutes against inter aside i could've slept through the other games and not missed much.

So it's AVB you're against. Who do you want in charge?

I hate winning

Spurs is not just about winning, but the way that you win it (y)

That is what I have always been told and that is what I believe.

Good 3 points today, first game of the season, but fuck me that was not a game sing and shout about and inspire confidence.

If Gylfi & Defoe had taken those chances (as they should have), would you be moaning about a 3-0 away win??
Can't be bothered to say any more.

Yeah but this is new team. At least give them some time to settle in. In years gone by, with all the expectations from the fans, we would have lost that. We were solid today and the quick football will happen.

I think AVB is co-incidental. It's the much talked about lack of a midfield playmaker which is the difference. AVB knew that, it's why he wanted Moutinho. Because we don't have a player of that ilk, we end up banging against massed ranks of defenders with no clever little player to find a pass through, everything slows down and then breaks down.

tottenham's dull football is a result of avb, it's not just a natural occurence. bale masked avb's deficiencies last season, had he not belted in 30 yard winners every game we could've finished well down the table. it wasn't by design that bale had to save us numerous times. it's not my problem people can't be objective, the football is dull and we're a team of hard working, solid players. crystal palace were atrocious today, they looked like they were one step up from sunday league but we still had to cough and splutter our way over the line.

Trust me, no matter how long it's over you can't tell anything.

Ifs, buts and maybe's aren't what really happened though and isn't an argument against the way we have played over the last year.

Well I for one am VERY happy with 3 points and had a great day out to boot.
Look for the possitives, not the negatives. It's not as if we are Woolwich.

In all honesty I think the team of two seasons ago spoilt us. That team was one of the most entertaining teams that english football as created. I think most your criticisms arn't really valid (for example Daws hoofs a lot less under AVB than under Redknapp) and do not believe that we are boring, but we obviously are not as attractive as we had Modric, VdV and Bale all in the same team.

Good post. I think you're spot on actually. The team we had with Modric and VDV was a joy to watch at times. Some of the football we played was amazing.

However under AVB we've looked consistently solid. I still think the lack of movement is shockingly bad at times, and we're not easy on the eye at all, but we look like a much tougher side to break down.

My only concern, which I share with the OP, is that I can see a lot of low scoring games, including a lot of dropped points in 0-0 draws. I'm also worried that whilst we're built to break up play in the middle, we have very little creativity. If we're losing a game I wouldn't have much confidence in us finding two goals from somewhere.

Yep, didn't take you long to pick up where you left off!

Wasn't it you who said we won't insist in the top 8 last season?

We scored as many goals last season as we did the season before with VDV & Modric.

I get the impression AVB is building from the back rather like Mancini did at City and learning from when he was at Chelsea where they conceded an awful lot. The priority for any manager should be to make a team difficult to beat before improving the style. Mancini did it incredibly well and I think the flair will come soon enough under AVB, but we need some patience as fans.

Just to say Verts and CHadli both said after the game that we should and will score more goals. Once Soldado is fully sharp, and maybe that new creative player before the window's end we'll score more.

AVB has to take credit for the lack of conceding late since the infamous Everton defeat. We've generally looked more solid and concede a lot less in the closing stages of games.

The last year when we've changed manager, lost our 2 most creative (and arguably best) players in Modric & VdV and still got 72 points?
Yes we're not as attractive as we were at times under Harry but we're also better in a number of ways.
I'm not going to dig out our current squad, coach or state of the club after 1 game of their 2nd season. Where we won. Away from home. Without our new best player who doesn't fancy it & has affected our pre-season plans.

Indeed we did but how much of that was down to an individual moment of magic from Bale rather than amazing team play?

Sorry I don't buy that at all, we played with 11 men in both seasons and scored the same number of goals in both. We are allowed to play Gareth Bale!

Agh.. people still talking about losing Modric and how creative he was.

He's long gone, get over it.

And he really didn't create as much as people make out.

VDV legs had gone.

I can;t quite work you out Blake I know often agree with what your saying when you critique our performances but its hard to take seriously when one of your favorite players epitomises everything your are complaing about.
