WAIT WAIT WAIT...
So Arsenal outcast Ozil choses to spend his own money (which he gets from Arsenal who are overpaying him to do nothing) to then pay for Gunnersauras?

What is this club and how they run?

Good on Ozil to basically save a man's job but what is Arsenal? What are they doing money wise when it comes to this?

Funny because it really divides people - half of them will think "What a great guy" the others will be "The little shit stirrer!"

He does a lot for charity and the community - he gets paid a tonne load. He has shown up Arsenal here regardless of what you think of him.

Makes Arsenal look even more ****y when a player who they don't even use offers to pay the wages of the club mascot. It's like he's saying "I know I earn way too much so I'll pay your staff because you keep signing 30+ year-olds on 250k contracts which you clearly cant afford...".

The whole thing is obscene really. I really can’t get my head around sacking the mascot ffs. It costs way more in reputational damage than it saves on the bottom line.

Even in a week where they make a high profile signing, the news is partially overshadowed by the fact they’ve sacked someone who, for better or worse, is part of the club’s identity.

Let's be honest, what are they going to pay Gunnersaurus for at the moment anyway?
No matches etc. so he's not even working in the first place.

That's a fair point. Must be the same with Chirpy.

Which is why my three-point plan would have been such a winner.

1) Buy the Gunnersaurus costume
2) Take several compromising photos of Chirpy doing unmentionable things to it
3) Release one a week over the course of the season.

It would have kept morale high, wound the Gooners up, kept Chirpy in gainful employment and thrown a few quid the way of the Gunnersaurus guy. Everyone would have won.

Sadly, though, Ozil's come along and ruined all that. No vision, that bloke.

It's been a massive fuck up for Arsenal.
Firstly to sack your mascot, to save a gigantic £29k per year - which, let's face it is nothing in the world of football - then to have your highest paid and most redundant player publicly offering to pay it himself.
The social media piss-taking they're getting is fully justified.
Just goes to show how little the care about their fans and the 'little people' involved at the club.

You, Dr. Stephen Freud and others need to have your own comedic football show. Arsenal alone provides plenty of material.

Not the first time he's shown up Arsenal.

This signing just smacks of last minute panic buying. If they where going to pay the full £45 million for his release clause, why wait until the last minute to do so? You could have had him in over a month ago and embedded in the squad.

Just seems like it was desperation. Same as United and all their last minute signings.

Its not really a panic buy as they've been after him for a while. Kroenke was doing all he could to not have to pay the 45m in full so was trying to negotiate player plus cash so he could pay in instalments. In the end they had to cough up.

All in the Partey deal is supposedly costing them £100m, £45m release clause up front, £260k a week and a hefty agent fee...

Wow that is bonkers, especially when you consider we probably pay Kane £300k after bonuses and Bale is probably around £250k. What’s he done in the game to justify that sort of wage?! It’s not as if they even bought him in on a free or a low fee.

They seem to get bent over by agents all the time now and long may it continue.
