He didn't come from a non-football background. His father was coach of Setubal, his mother was a teacher too, so he has been in and around football and education his whole life. The point isn't that anyway, it's that he exposed himself to management with a club where he could put himself to the test, without the intense pressures like at a bigger club. This allowed him more control and space to get things wrong.

Brendan Rodgers did the same.
Poch did the same.

Arteta's appointment is more akin to Gattuso or Seedorf. Zero managerial experience. It's vastly different to management.

I'd also argue Mourinho was exposed to management before coaching. That's a big advantage in these situations.
Has there actually EVER been a success story of someone without any managerial experience at all taking over a big club? The only person I can think of is Cruyff who took over at Ajax right after he retired and he was a generation-defending, one of a kind phenomenon. He also had the majority of his success at his second job at Barcelona anyway.

Obviously you also have Zidane and Guardiola but they both at least had experience of managing their respective B teams and inherited two of the best squads in living memory.

Fighting talk but I feel that he's just another one who the players will eventually walk all because of the lack of experience.

I agree. He definitely talks a good game but if you were an Arsenal player like PEA or Lacazette who joined the club with promises of top 4 and trophy challenges, how would you feel right now? It hardly screams ambition to hire a 37 year old guy who has never even managed before, let alone won anything. They'll give him a chance no doubt, but he'll have to really impress from the offset to win them over, otherwise they'll sink back into their old ways before long.

There's also just something weirdly wooden about him. His movements and expressions are somehow robotic and stiff, like he's mimicking human gestures rather than being natural.

...I reckon he might be one of them lizard people.

I agree it's like he's had dodgy plastic surgery or something, I can't put my finger on it. His hair looks painted-on, that's for sure.

And imagine being one of their "stars", being told they're going to be part of an 18 month rebuild (or however long it takes), they won't be able to get out quick enough.

Aubamayeng's brother already spoke out against it, wouldn't surprise me if he probably felt the same way.

He looks like a bad Adam Levine waxwork.

Not too far off the Zak Effron one, if it was clean shaved and a bit shitter

Strong words but what will he or can he do with those that don’t fall in line ? Many are on such big salaries they will be difficult to shift. There are rumours though on BBC Transfer Talk that both Xhaka and Ozil are off in January. All very well getting rid but they have to be replaced or you are down to the kids.

None of us know how it’s going to go but I have my suspicions. Don’t forget they’re the luckiest football club though so there’s always the concern his appointment will come up trumps.

A lot of the time when a manager goes to a new club he often raids his old club for a player or two. City are probably bracing themselves for a £15m joint bid for Sterling and Aguero any day now.

Sane has said that Arteta helped him a lot. Might loan him to Arsenal for match fitness before a summer transfer to Bayern.

There are similarities but the starting point of our squad is *far* higher than theirs and we've also brought in one of the most decorated managers in the game (so seamlessly that the switch might as well have been one action). They've got a decent attack and goalkeeper but everything between the 2 is a complete mess and they've brought in someone who has never managed before.
