yeah thanks @JayB - just posted in the ITK thread about this as well. Apparently - and this may just be posturing, ADL (Napoli's president) is threatening to ice Milik out of the Napoli squad if he doesn't leave.

Musical chairs at the moment - open spot at Juve, could be filled by Suarez or Dzeko, which would then leave an open spot at Roma for Milik, but it seems Roma aren't keen to sell Dzeko and Suarez would be the preferred option of Juve.
I think we'd be have a good chance of attracting him over Roma even if Juve decided to go for Dzeko rather than Suarez. Roma are in the EL, same as us, but their wage budget is far lower than ours -- their top earner is Dzeko who's on half of what we pay Kane and Ndombele. He might prefer to stay in Italy but if he's open to moving leagues I think we'd be in with a shout for sure.

Bumping this thread as Fabrizio Romano mentioned yesterday that Spurs like and are tracking Milik but that he prefers Juventus, and to keep an eye on it if Juve go for Suarez or Dzeko.

I'm speculating and obviously we can't know who the target is, but that seems to square with what Tottenhamboys posted in the ITK thread about our top choice seeing us as a backup option. Based on reporting from Gerard Romero and Di Marzio it seems that Suarez may be close to signing for Juve, and if so I wouldn't be surprised if there was some movement on Milik soon.

Yeah exactly my thoughts too. Lines up with everything we've been told too by ITK over the past couple of weeks (target man, need a free non-HG spot, bigger profile than King/Wood etc.) Think he'd be an exceptional bit of business if we get him.

perhaps depends if he's ok playing as a backup to Kane - don't know too much about him but I get the impression he's a similar profile of striker?

Yeah I’m not sure about playing as a back-up. I think there’s been a lot of reports of him having an ego and being a bit of a diva with managers (but isn’t that true of almost all striker in Serie A?)

basically since Milik’s injury issues he isn’t fast anymore and no longer is really going to stretch a defense over the top. He does have a really nice left foot and great vision for a striker and is tall and good in the air. Honestly he and Kane could be lovely together if they found a system to accompany them both, as Milik has technical skills and can almost play as a false 9 behind the striker type, as well as providing a big physical presence.

The press has been quoting Milik at €40m, which I feel there is almost no chance we'd pay. I wonder how far Levy can drag down his valuation.

I rate Milik but I don't think he's worth twice what King or Wilson are and non HG spot

Milik is down to a year remaining on his contract and Di Laurentis is publicly pushing him out of the club. If big-money suitors were in for him they might be able to get a big fee but if Juve decide to go for Suarez or Dzeko and the likes of Roma are our main competition I don't see them being able to hold out for that kind of fee. I don't think they'll want to sell him in January with six months remaining or risk losing him on a free.

I think Milik is a better fit for what Jose wants in a number 9. He's hugely experienced despite only being 26. A better investment for say 35m than say Wilson for 20m.

And the HG quota may be OK if Foyth and Aurier we're to leave.

I think if we offer 18m for Milik, Napoli would do it given the fact Roma won't come and there is no other suitors available ...

Would provide competition rather than cover for Kane.

And for that reason I'm in.
I dont think Kane needs competition, he works 100% regardless of our striker options. He'll never be dropped for that reason. What it does give is a quality partner option and less reluctance to rest Kane.

Of course Kane will play. Players thrive on competition and I doubt that Kane is any different.

I don’t think he will be that much with only a year left on his contract. Napoli are selling Koulibaly to Man City and getting sokratis from the gooners so will have an extra bit of cash. They could be willing to be more flexible on the fee.

Napoli have asked for Under, Riccardi and €20 off Roma for him. They’re still valuing him at over €40m.

No one will buy milik for 40m .... Any club can have him for 10m in january then
I think it's very unlikely they'll get that kind of return for him. Levy was asking €60m for Eriksen last summer and there simply wasn't a market for it. Perhaps there will be a club that is acceptable to Milik that rates him highly enough to stump up the equivalent of €40m for him, but I suspect not in this market. IMO they'll eventually accept what the market will bear as they obviously want to sell him this window. It could easily be the sort of transfer that drags on until closer to the deadline, though.

These was my first thoughts initially - may also be Josh King who has said he wants to go to United I think.

Milik was in and out the napoli team last year to players a lot less adept at centre forward than Harry kane. I don't think he's a diva as suggested above cos he always buckled down from.when I saw him. My point being he could be happy to play that role with Kane. Very clever cf
