Blatter going doesn't change anything for me, it'll be just like Kim Jong-Un resigning and being replaced by Kum Tu-Soon - it'll be the same shit just a different name.

Fifa is institutionally corrupt and needs to be replaced entirely and for the World Cups in Russia and Qatar to be scrapped and a new bidding process done.
Can't see the Russia world cup being scrapped now. Qatar is possible and hopefully whoever takes over will put measures in place to avoid murkiness in future world cup bids.

Gave you a funny, but it is slightly ironic that the country who gives avout the fewest fucks about football had to be the ones to start the fire

But we actually love the sport. It's just that nobody wants to admit it.
#3 in participation behind gridiron and basketball
#3 in attendance at professional level (yes the MLS gets more per game than the NBA and NHL with 90% capacity)
#3 in television viewership. Baseball is a dying sport and the NBA and NHL have limited markets, so the combination of Liga Mx, Champions League and EPL (and even some MLS) has sawker ahead of three of the big four.
#2 big ticket event. The US games at the last World Cup had better numbers than everything other than the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics, the BCS Championship game and NFL playoffs. They beat regular Olympic broadcasts and the World Series, NBA Finals, NCAA Championship and Stanley Cup. But Guess what? The most popular World Cup game didn't involve the US and was the 13th most watched program in US TV for that year.
#2 with the kids. Not just playing it but watching it.

Very true. This is such a huge story yet people over here in the States don't even understand the scope and impact of it. In fact, I hear quite a bit of complaining that the major sports and news networks are covering it as much as they are and even more complaining that tax payer money and resources is being used on this investigation.
Well ESPN is hammering it home because FIFA gave Fox the contracts for the 2022 and 2026 WC's without even opening up the bidding so ESPN is pissed. Conveniently, Fox Sports is choosing to not cover the FIFA investigations much. I'd much rather ESPN cover this then what Lebron ate 10 minutes ago.

We always complain about tax paying dollars doing stuff, so what's the big deal? The people in this country are idiots.

Clearly 2022 should go to the United States as a token of our services in the removal of Blatter. Had to do all of the dirty work for the rest of you.

So we start clearing up the corruption in football by throwing the USA a bung?

Sounds good to me.

Just watching Blatter's speech with the FIFA logo in the background:

FIFA
For the game. For the world

Change the "For" to another "F" word and that is his legacy. I hope he rots in a Qatari or Russian prison if they get the WC taken from either.

This doesn't come under the heading 'News that shocks me', I think we all guessed this was going to come out sooner rather than later once he'd quit.
