I'm not that convinced Hojbjerg will start. I think there's a good chance but there's just as much chance he doesn't. Ange hasn't been starting him so I don't see where the certainty comes from. He's been next in line from the bench ahead of Skipp but then Bentancur returned. I just don't see him being ahead of Bentancur unless we deem Bentancur too risky. It's possible we start Sarr, Bentancur and Hojbjerg but I really do think Ange will prefer better quality on the ball. He still played Bissouma as a 6 with Hojbjerg the 8 against Wolves so I'm sure he sees the same issue we do. If it was Jose or Conte then Hojbjerg was a regular but under Ange he's a player we were willing to sell. I think he's been used when needed but will play less now Bentancur is back.

People, as ever, need to temper their expectations. The pace and competitiveness of the premier league is going to be significantly more challenging than playing Bolivia.

I think he has to play at least 60 mins this weekend, with Sarr and Lo Celso. As the Wolves game demonstrated that when you include Davies, Dier, and PEH in the same XI, they naturally play more on the back foot. That was the worst we looked offensively all season. With Romero and VdV out, our best form of defense is attack. Hence, Lolo is a must.

He'll need a couple of months to get back to something approaching full sharpness of course but he could be playing the BBC Radio 4 team for all I care. You can see his knee isn't going to be anything more than a temporary fitness issue with the way he was moving and playing on it.

I'm not getting too excited. There are levels between Bolivia and Aston Villa, he's had a solid run out but and it will have sharpened him up but I don't think he starts for another few weeks. Injuries and suspensions though are twisting our arm, so maybe he does, but I think Ange and the medical team have their own timeline in mind.

Great that he played pretty much the full 90, but hope he's fresh enough to play again on Sunday for us after playing midweek.

Would love to see a Bentancur, Sarr and Lo Celso midfield (assuming Maddison is still out).
Have I missed something re Maddison? The wording here makes it sound as though he could be close to a return yet he's not due to return until the New Year 🤷🏼‍♂️

I know sweet FA mate, sorry if my wording was misleading!

Bentancur has to start tomorrow. Son must be lobbying for it too surely! Let's bang in a couple and then Bentancur can come off on 60 mins.

Barring being our best player during the only prolonged spell of consistent playing time that he's had in a Spurs shirt.

He's currently been injury free for 1.5 months and was deemed match-fit enough to start Argentina's last game (after coming on as a sub in the previous two). There's enough evidence to suggest that he deserves a chance to prove himself while Maddison + Bissouma are unavailable.
Who else do you suggest we put in the no.10 role that has any hope of doing a better job? Bentancur is still in the process of regaining match fitness and is better suited to a deeper role than no.10. Sarr has been good as a no.8, but was really poor in the no.10 role. Donley is an 18-year-old with only 8 PL2 matches under his belt. We don't have much choice but to start Kulusevski at RW and Johnson at LW, due to other injuries (Solomon, Perisic, Richarlison & Sessegnon), so any talk of Kulusevski playing no.10 is out the window.

EDIT: I forgot about Gil, but he hasn't shown anything during his limited opportunities this season (probably why I forgot him). Choosing him (with Kulu moved to 10) over playing Lo Celso at 10 would be obstinate.

I agree that he needs to move on. What I disagree with is the suggestion that we should neglect to use him during our current injury crisis, despite not seeming to have any better options.
When was GLC ever our best player? I seem to remember a spell under José where he was ok.

I think the point people are making is if we are shifting him then why bother to play him, a similar argument to playing Dier.

Your second point about him being injury free for one and a half months and playing for Argentina made me chuckle. He's always fit for his country, I've seen nothing that suggests he actually gives a crap about spurs or has the fitness to play PL football on a regular basis.

I do agree with your general point though. Without Maddison we look like we'll never create a chance again, so I would play him.

Definitely not our best player for any consistent period, but he was one of our better players for Jose coming out of COVID.

He's always fit for his country? Why doesn't he have a World Cup Winners medal then?

I think Lolo's return will really help GLC to play well in that midfield while Maddison is out, they should complement each other really well.

Hope he's not out and was only taken off as precaution.

He was magnificent today

Fuck Matty Cash and his stupid fucking hair and stupid fucking ugly face. Did the same thing to Doherty.

Absolutely gut punching when he came off! If he stayed we would have won this by 2 or 3 goals.
