Anyone else feel Cash targeted him deliberately?
No he lashed out shortly after their goal was disallowed. It was a nasty, cowardly kick, I won’t even call it a tackle.
And these fucking idiot refs & people at PGMOL need to wake up and realise these types of offences are red cards. Soon, someone will get badly hurt.

Gutted to see him go off. He looked as good as ever in the first 25 minutes and without Maddison we could really have done with him getting an extended run in the side.

At least it isn't a recurrance of the knee injury but suspect he'll be out for a few weeks at a minimum which given our upcoming fixtures is a bit of a disaster.

We’d all have taken that performance before the match and to me it shows two things:
One being Ange is a hell of a good manager to get that sort of performance from those players we had on the pitch today.
Two being proof that to play in this style works.
Three (lol) when our bench and a few more are all suited to the style we win our silverware and we don’t have too long to wait.
Bentancur was trying to fill the void of three injured players before he was wiped from the match by that tosser. Was a bridge too far.
Keep the fire burning inside all you who think we should try shore up our backline at the expense of the new football we’re going for.

Lost us the game basically. Holjbergjust didn't have the same control or passing range.

Cash has already caused serious injuries with his challenges. He did Doherty’s ACL two years ago. He’s an absolute scumbag.

Absolutely.

No doubt.

He had zero chance of getting the ball.

Those kind of tackles are 'oranges' in my book.
They’re reds. And if they make them reds, these talentless pricks like Cash would stop doing them. But they know they’ll get away with it.

In terms of a pure tackle I thought it was worse than Romero’s, no intent to play the ball and he just looked like he was purposefully smashing his ankle to injure him.

Problem with modern laws is they are very prescriptive so Romero’s under the law is worse due to it being higher but Romero’s tackle didn’t injure and wasnt on purpose just somewhat reckless and he deserved his red. Cash went for Bentancur to take him out and got the result he wanted. For me that is a clear red.

This was football right out of the 1970s. Cash deliberately set out to hurt Bentancur to intimidate him and slow him down because he was playing so well. This sort of behaviour used to be common but thankfully happens much less now.

Cash should have been sent off.

As it is, his dreadful play was rewarded with our best midfielder going off and Villa winning.

Disgraceful.

Oh I agree that they should be reds. But in the eyes of the current laws they are oranges.

Home from the game and disappointed to lose the game but not disappointed with the players. We played our game and created plenty of chances with a makeshift side and that's all I want to see. Emerson and Davies two full backs playing as Centre Backs didn't let us down but second half Villa spread the game wide making space through the middle to exploit that and it was no coincidence they caused us trouble with free kicks and corners. I still think we deserved something from the game and if these players had had a few more games together we would have got it.

Edit: Been a long day I don't know why I posted this in this thread. 😊

I enjoy football and the watching of skill talent and get off your bum moments

The players that provide these moments need protecting against players who can’t get near them.
When you have thuggery on the football pitch to try to stop these players the ref needs to protect them to protect the concept of football.
Refs are weak inconsistent and afraid of making a decision.
You’re Matt cash and Charlie Adams of the game are literally thugs who go around kicking more talented players and potentially ruining careers.

When was GLC ever our best player? I seem to remember a spell under José where he was ok.
During that spell under Mourinho, it seemed to be the general consensus (SC, pundits, neutral fans) that he was our best player. However, he was playing deeper (as an 8?) not as a 10 during that spell, so it could still be argued that he's never put together a run of decent performances as a 10 for us.

I think the point people are making is if we are shifting him then why bother to play him, a similar argument to playing Dier.
Purely for the reason that we don't currently have better options at our disposal. The only alternative today would have been Hojbjerg, who most fans also don't want to start.
Dier will presumably have been dropped because Ange considered Emerson & Davies to both be better options, rather than because Dier isn't in his long-term plans.

Your second point about him being injury free for one and a half months and playing for Argentina made me chuckle. He's always fit for his country, I've seen nothing that suggests he actually gives a crap about spurs or has the fitness to play PL football on a regular basis.
I think it has been more a case of us not giving him opportunities to play (or loaning him out!) after he has returned from an injury, but Argentina being willing to select him despite a lack of playing time with his club. He has been available for 9 of our 13 PL games this season, but before today was only given us for the last 1.5 months, but before today had only been given 28 minutes. It's down to Ange's selections and the good form of others, not Lo Celso saying he isn't fit to play, that he hasn't been utilised more this season - the same applied for spells under our previous few managers too.

I do agree with your general point though. Without Maddison we look like we'll never create a chance again, so I would play him.
I didn't see the game (will watch highlights later), but his goal at least partially justifies his selection.

Am I right to presume that Bentancur played 6 and Lo Celso 8?
