Thing is, while it isn’t just Mourinho who has had a problem with him. Mourinho has had a problem with many top players, turned whole squads against himself. And struggled to stay in employment longer than a couple of years anywhere he's been.

if a player had the record he has, his personality would be questioned. We simply can’t be sure the problem is just Ndombele.
But he’s done that and subsequently won numerous trophies at many top clubs. If ndombele has to be sacrificed in order to create a winning culture and dressing room for that to happen, I’m going to support the decision.

If he were to leave we would be desperately short of creative passers in the team. As much as I like Lo Celso and the tenacity he brings in the attacking role, he does not bring the same aptitude to passing as Eriksen does and needs a partner in crime in that regard. Unless Winks suddenly got unlocked by Højbjerg but it's still not the same as what Ndombele could bring.

Honestly, would be disappointed if he left and we didn't replace with a similar stature of player. SMS from Lazio, even Donny van de Beek from Ajax who isn't at Ndombele's pure talent level but full package, measures up against him would need to be brought in otherwise, we're just weakening a position that could be a strength at the moment.

So sad if he leaves. I remember being so ridiculously giddy excited when we got this over the line last year. Like Klinsmann excited

I'll be very sad also, felt like we had arrived at the big boys table with the signing.

Honestly think he is potentially world class far above anything else we could get, just like Marcus Edwards.

Mad to have had two such players and lost them both.

I think if we get a big offer for him we'll sell.
Such a shame because he is a huge talent but if Jose isn't convinced of his mentality he'll be desperate to use the funds to find more of his types.

Levy won't sell taking a big hit though, no way.

Love us to keep him and he realises his true ability.

When we signed Ndombele, it was viewed as a top of the market signing. A touted world class player that every big club reportedly had their eye on. If we flog him off, we simply need to make another top of the market signing or the club risks serious backlash over a lack of ambition both internally and externally. Targets like Coutinho, SMS, etc. is the bracket we have to be batting in. We would need to sign someone else who would be expected to walk into the starting XI and turn heads, like Ndombele was.

---

The problem is, it seems unlikely we're in the market to do that this season. So the club hopefully will give Ndombele another season to prove he is the player he was touted to be for us.

From Romano's article on the Hojbjerg/KWP deal,

"Inter are still interested in signing Tanguy Ndombele despite Tottenham’s insistence that the France midfielder is not for sale, although whether they will make an official approach depends on whether manager Antonio Conte’s long-term future is resolved in the coming weeks."

Probably Levy over Jose

IMO it'll all come down to the quality of offer that comes in. I don't see levy selling him for less than he paid, but if someone offers a profit I think he'll find it hard to turn down.

I just hope if he does end up being sold the money is reinvested in player(s) of similar potential.

Yet we signed Ndombele for a huge fee and pay him circa £200k per week.

28 - get 4 solid years out of him easily.
That's true, but other circumstances are very different. Ndombele was seen more as a long term investment.

Ndombele was 22 when we signed him / Coutinho is 28 (6 year difference).
Ndombele cost £55m / We can only guess what Coutinho would cost, but he went for £142m fee...even though it was 18 months later when the market had further inflated.
Ndombele will still have a decent resale value after Coutinho has retired.
Ndombele was signed off the back of a strong season, named in the UEFA CL TotY / Coutinho has struggled to hold down a place while out on loan.

I'm not saying £55m for Ndomblele looks like a great investment right now, but based on the information available at the time, there was more basis to splash out on him than Coutinho (from the perspective of Levy, not an oligrach who wants to buy trophies).

If ndombele has another season like this one, what his value will be?

No chance Inter offer what we paid and no chance levy accepts a loss. AC Milan offering 12m for Aurier sums up the covid market.

Agreed. Only way he goes IMO is if PSG decide they want him. I guess Jose may push for the Skriniar swap but I'd imagine Levy would value Tanguy quite a bit higher than him.

This.

Levy will want to get back what we paid for him. He has FIVE years left on his contract, full French international, etc. I can't see us letting him go for a cheaper fee unless we have a very specific plan in mind and other deals lined up (which is possible but unlikely) or a team like PSG offers a big fee.

Levy has hung on to some absolute dross like Nkoudou and Janssen for years and years as he wasn't happy to let them go for less than his perceived value. I can't see him rushing such a talented, statement signing out of the door after a single season without a very good reason.

Should he go, it will most certainly be close to what we paid or a swap that’s too good to decline. All I care about is we replace with a player of similar quality. I don’t want winks, sissoko, or gedson (even though I don’t think he’s been given a proper chance yet) as an in house replacement. We must get a top drawer CM or AM, and it shouldn’t cost more than what we’d sell tanguy for to buy SMS or houssem aouar for example.
