Stock response: But he wanted de Jong so you can hardly blame him for turning down the alternative(s) he was offered (probably another Stambouli).

Never mind that de Jong is on record as saying he didn't want to leave Ajax at that time.
I think, that if I imagine myself with some empathy, after a few seasons in a row of getting many Stamboulis, and very few Alderweirelds, whilst achieving great results, I too might over time be tempted to try and play a little hardball and draw some red lines, because as I have said before n'ough is 'nough. Just saying.

Son needed to drive to get to work and asked dad for a Ferrari - dad said no it's too expensive however here's a Mercedes, son got upset and sulked and subsequently didn't have car to get to work because he refused to drive the Merc.

Son eventually got sacked for being late and poor attendance.

Silly son.

And that is fair comment. However to offer no list of alternatives to the individuals he wanted, even after he knew he wasn't getting his targets was ridiculously stubborn.

If it was a case that he was doing it in some way to prove a point it sure as hell backfired.

No you can't blame him for that, and if that was the case I'd have full sympathy with him. He was asked repeatedly who else though so I don't.

Indeed it did! But to me that is touching upon a what could be a personality trait.

Either way it’s going to interesting when Poch writes a book about all this shit and the transfers etc. All water under the bridge now. I agree people need to let go. We are where we are.

I'd be astonished if any book told anywhere near the truth. Levy will have gagging orders, clauses in divorce agreements, conditions in severance contracts the lot plastered all over everything like a pikeys holiday caravan.

Of course he will. Levy is why I don't think the Amazon stuff will be half as graphic or informative as a lot on here are hoping it will.

I wonder if in 5 years time, when we may have a manager we've not heard of today, if SC will still be waxing lyrical about Poch.

Its unreal. Every other post in this thread is about Poch. I love Poch. Always will. But some really can't get over him being gone.

I could understand if he'd been a Fergie, or dare I say it a Wenger, and actually won us trophies. We played great for 18-24 months under him. I've said before, those who think we played this open, flowing, attacking style for all of his time here are deluded.

A lot of the time the football was boring. Say what you want about Jose, but Poch's style was just as boring for a lot of his time (minus the 18-24 months): play out from back when not technically good enough, keep the ball for the possessions sake, make the same subs at the same time EVERY game. Unable to change tactically. And being unable to get us over the line when it mattered.

I like Poch because he cared and he always seemed a decent bloke. But If you were to look at his honours as a manager so far it would be: managed Espanyol - did ok. Managed Southampton - did decent. Managed Spurs - did well.

Give me a twat like Mourinho who's trying to galvanise us. Setting up a siege mentality. Making us difficult to break down. I don't care if it ain't pretty, if it gets us over the line then that's all that matters to me.

I think its natural to refer back to a previous manager who was well liked by the fans. Jol was a good case in point. It will change after some time.

Although insisting on specific targets and refusing anyone else other than the exact players he wanted is precisely what Klopp did at Liverpool and it won them the CL and the Premier League.

DL has final cut on the doc. There's a lot of explosive stuff that got filmed (a mate worked on it) but none of it is making it anywhere near the finished product. It will be completely anodyne.

I would but unfortunately I've been sworn to secrecy! Leaks = job losses.

While there were a couple of things that are a bit concerning going forward, I personally didn't find anything that out of the ordinary for a club going through some bad results, with tensions running high.

Cheers for the info but if that's true that makes the documentary pretty pointless (not in Levy's eyes as he's making money from it). Either tell the story or don't bother.

Literally never going to happen. The players' management would never allow certain things to air, for starters. These programmes exist for good publicity and nothing else. They are not 'documentaries' in the truest sense of the word.

Why does this always get brought up without the * attached to it with the sale of one of their top players to facilitate that coming to fruition?

It grinds my gears.

I imagine we'll get a shot of DL welcoming Jose and showing him a full wheelbarrow, fast forward to present day with a shot of the groundsman's shed with it sitting there empty :)

I really don't understand the concern about Ledley's new job. It's not as though he would have just been given the job without having to go through some sort of recruitment process. He may well have been encouraged to apply for the position but he would still have to prove to Jose and / or Levy that he is capable of fulfilling the tasks he will be responsible for. Perhaps working with the defence during lockdown was a way to give him a chance to show he can do it.
