To be honest, while this is a bit exaggerated, it's not that far from the truth. Everton and West Ham were both absolutely abysmal and had Arsenal's shooting boots been on and their defence not to colossally shit, we could've easily lost that game 3-1. We deserved to lose to Bournemouth too.

As someone else said in this thread, football is about fine margins and a couple of inches here or there and we'd be looking at 3 losses and the pile on would be much worse.

It was the same in Poch's last full season. We played shit and won games by tiny margins and everyone on here was like 'sign of champions'. Then the pendulum swung, the 1 goal wins became 1 goal and suddenly Poch had lost it. In reality the signs had been there the entire season.

The reality is, while results are important, you need to see signs of growth and development, as you can't count on your opponents to miss their chances and to gift you wins by tiny margins every week.

I'm going to support Jose and I hope we back him in the market, but at the same time all the evidence from our performances suggest to me that he's not going to last very long here and his football is outdated.
It's miles from the truth. Yet similar doesn't seem to apply in reverse. The VAR against Sheff Utd, the penalty against Bournemouth etc etc those fine margins are swept under the carpet. We're 'gifted' wins, so we earn nothing. Just the negative stands as is.

So I massively MASSIVELY disagree. But i'm too nice a guy to say do via a rating :D

The constant fouling of Richarlison completely worked though didn't it. If we do the same to Saint Maximan tonight we might also get another 'lucky win'...

As Kane said Jose is all about winning, Spurs have been all about not winning for a long time. I'm trying to be patient and give the guy some time and let him hopefully build a squad and then grin and bare the harder watch games if they get us results because he does get results and given the adversity he's faced with the injuries etc etc his results have been very good considering.

I do start to see what people mean that some fans literally just want him to fail no matter what no objectivity.

Can’t believe you even dignified this mess with a response

Yeah but I'm not talking about referring decisions or VAR, I'm talking about quality of performances.

I'd wager that luck-wise we're probably pretty average and for every bullshit decision that goes for us there's one that goes against us. If anyone has evidence to disprove this, then I'll happily change my opinion, but generally I believe that stuff tends to balance out.

However, if you're putting in shit performances week after week and eking out narrow victories, eventually you're bound to regress to the mean and the results will start to match the performances. This is what I was referring to with Poch, and what I think will happen with Jose too if we keep playing at this level.

I'm of the opinion that the media are desperate for Jose to fail and want to feed that narrative at every chance. He's the pantomime villain that has to fail so that when he's unmasked at the end they can all point and say "told you so". He hasn't helped himself with his behaviour over the years, might have even earned it to a certain extent.

I mean, we can pretend and play semantics all we like, but my point remains true

Correct me if I’m wrong but your point seems to be that Jose’s last PL title was 5 years ago and his last Champions League title was 10 years ago - and that those achievements are sufficiently long ago to be largely irrelevant now.

That is a highly subjective judgement.

So while your point might ring true to you, it doesn’t to others (who look at the fact that he has only managed two whole seasons since his last PL win and managed to win two trophies in that time - as many as Spurs have won in 29 whole seasons).

I’d agree that, over the course of this season, we’ve had a similar number of bad calls go for and against us.

But specifically since lockdown, we’ve had three howlers go against us while benefitting from none. The disallowed Sheffield Utd goal. The failure to send off Norwood in the same game. And the failure to award the penalty against Bournemouth. Had the correct calls been made in each of those instances, I have no doubt that we would have won both games and would now be sitting at or near the top of the form table since restart.

Of course, you’re right to say that the performances have left much to be desired with regard to the attack. But defensively, we have been fairly solid. This is only the beginning of the rebuild. There’s a long way to go and we are in dire need of some key new players - full backs, defensive midfielder, and another striker. Let’s see what Jose can do with those key additions and a full season. Anything else would be madness.

Defensively we look much better. Toby and Hugo are still a very good spine.

We just need to sort Toby out with a decent partner and get a decent right back.

Brilliant away win. Performance could be slightly better but quite solid throughout and can’t ask much more than that given they’ve not lost at home since December in the league. Much of an improvement going forwards compared to against Bournemout, certainly many more positive shoots of encouragement in our play and keeps us within a tiny bit of hope of a europa position.

That was one of the most Mouriniho spurs performances yet, especially away from home. Slowly becoming more confident if we can give Jose some players he wants then things will keep improving.

onwards and upwards.
COYS.
