If he’s backed and winning things what’s to say he won’t want to claim his own legacy? He’s done everything else and won everything else - maybe now he wants to be known as the greasiest of all time by turning a sleeping giant into a powerhouse again. Everything is set up to do just that - the last piece of the jigsaw as I see it is correct player recruitment
100% this. Weather or not he can achieve it is another thing as the football landscape is so different now but Jose is an ego guy and although he says it’s not about me it’s about the squad blah blah blah, that’s a load of tosh, it’s 1,000% about him and as you say him wanting to try and ‘wake up a sleeping giant’, Jose will have analysed the situation and thought right spurs have a pretty decent squad, sure it’s not perfect and a few players like erisken and rose and jan need their contract situations sorting out but they’ve built the stadium now and the spending power is only going to increase especially when we get a naming rights deal etc, so he’ll be thinking if he can be given a few transfer windows to re-shape what is an already very talented squad who nearly won the PL and CL over the last 5 years and adding to that over the next few years it’s very likely pep will leave and or man.citys standards will drop a bit and ditto klopp and Liverpool, Arsenal Chelsea and man.u don’t exactly have all their ducks in a row, here is a chance to mould my own squad with a very talented assistant manager and have a real go at winning a few trophies for a club who have barely won anything over the last 30 years, if he can get us say an FA Cup and a League cup over a 4-5 year period I think that will go down as a great achievement and also people will be talking about how great Jose is to have won something with spurs and he won’t want to stop at just one trophy he’ll want minimum two for his legacy and if he is backed well enough and if lpool and city do fall away from their ridiculous standards of the last few seasons then mabye just mabye we could have one or two real proper goes at the league title under Jose and if he somehow won us the league then yep that’ll be his legacy absoloutely cemented, signed sealed stamped, no one could then argue against what a brilliant manager he was and he will have proved the doubters wrong which he would take so so much joy from.

he can then aged around 60 become Portugal manager and start to wind down his glittering career.

we shall see if he’s still got it in him but I for one think he does and thats why when he was available and the stars aligned and levy seized the opportunity I thought you know what that is daring to do, Jose isn’t flavour of the month by any means anymore but you’re gambling on a throughbred who’s been there and done it and very much knows how to get over the line.

I think it will be a fascinating ride.

Also to add, if you get past some of his mind games in the media I listen to a guy and I hear the words from someone with an unrivalled level of experience and knowledge about top top level football and I see someone who if I was a player I would trust to get us over the line, with poch as much as I loved the guy I just never felt that with him.

Weather Jose will be a success for us is of course still to be seen but I like the shoots of improvement on the pitch, I very much like the direction our squad re-build seems to be going and I’m loving his press conferences and interviews and it’s giving me confidence that he could be build something really special with us.

mabye I’m an optimist but fingers crossed, I just have a good feeling about the timing of it all of us now having money to spend and us getting one of the most decorated managers at a time when he’s rejuvenated and refreshed and more motivated than ever to achieve with yet another ‘underdog’ club.

For the love of God man, and my own fragile health, use a full stop now and again hey?

Just joshing ;) and I make you right with JM. I too think he has it in him and will prove this next season.

Haha mate my bad lol, I’m the same when I read my own posts but it’s a challenge in itself for others to try and read them but the content is so good they hold their breath and carry on ??

Glad you agree on Jose, fingers crossed.
Would love us to get a draw against city that would really start to get more fans on side, or a win but that’s ambitious at this stage of the re-build I’ll take a hard fought draw, we should be able to exploit them on the break, I wonder if he’d throw bergweign or the new ST on the bench if we sign either of those soon enough?

I’m starting to think JJ’s confidence was just down to the club’s strong desire to get Jose what he wants. Not an indication that were close to finalising a deal for any of them.
At a particular time there were at least 3 possible options that we had clearly “explored”, all of them seemingly achievable targets too.

But now with less than 2 days to go and very little noise about anything happening, I think my money is on no target man and possibly a slightly annoyed Jose.

It's exciting signing players on deadline day but we need to be more organised and professional than bargain binning the last day of the window. If I could change one thing about Levy it wouldn't be the amount of money we spend it would be getting the scouting and procurement of players as professional as possible and getting deals worked on out of the actual transfer window and closed out in the first week of the window.

Highly optimistic but we can dream.

Agree completely but not only does Levy seem to stubbornly refuse the idea of a DoF to help but also refuses to even pay market value for a player. Every deal has to be a bargain it seems.

Levy doesn’t sign players we need, he buys assets that he believes will appreciate in value.

Was it Levy's decision to buy Wanyama & Gazza both previously at Southampton , think maybe the manager/coach of the day has some say. Levy does the negotiation but he doesn't choose the players, he will tell manager/coach what funds are available but he knows about as much about Bergwijn as I do , just to be different I had to Yahoo his name.

It's well publicised there is a transfer committee with Levy, the manager and others who all have a say. Did we have Mitchell when we signed Gazza and Wanyama? You know why they got through if they weren't committee signings. Wanyama was late contract and cheap at 11m (~) and Gazza virtually nothing. At the prices astute buys.

We need a manager who picks a director of football so it isn't the tail wagging the dog. We also need one that listens to what the manager wants and works in tandem. We've seen with Poch if there isn't harmony you don't make signings or you make bad choices.

You can tell we have a committee as we were linked with Bergwijn well before this window and it didn't happen.

Where's your substance and foundation to all those claims you are randomly posting?

His press conference will be worth a watch tomorrow when we don’t have a striker signed up by then!

Agree there is a committee, reportedly John McDermott , Steve Hitchen , Jose & Levy but I doubt Levy chooses which players to target , sure he must leave that to the footballing side. We've had directors of football before and they made some bad choices, some good ones but some pretty bad.

Ok, I'm going to come out of the closet, I have never liked JM, never will. I was happy when he got sacked from Utd, not just because they were in the poo, but because him and the circus he brings with him were out of the premier league. Yeah, he will probably win us something in the next 18 months, but do I want to pay the price of listening to his egotistical mutterings or his lies, his style of play and eventually leaving on some huge pay out, I don't think I am.
He has been the same at every club he has been at, all smiles etc in the beginning, but eventually the mask will slip and we will see the real Jose. I fear what the club will be like when he does go, even if he brings us some shiny things.
We will see what legacy he will leave, but a bit of my Tottenham soul died when he was appointed.

I think that's a fair price for a trophy or two!
I think it's best not to worry about something that has not happened.

Poch has left and appears to have had disagreement with several players too so I dont think it's ever good when a manger leaves .

If his legacy is winning a trophy then its a better legacy than most

Considering how vocal he has been, especially in early part of window, about our need for a striker it's going to be fun how he reacts to being Levy'd just like previous managers. This could go pear shaped even quicker than I thought it would if José doesn't think he's going to get backed.
Interesting few press conferences ahead.

Why is there always the assumption (misguided, in my opinion), that the manager isn't fully briefed by the board & chairman on transfer developments! WRT a new forward, how do you know its not Mourinho who's said, "no, we'll wait then", when presented with unfavourable alternatives?
