I've read a lot of ArseAnal fans' opinions, both on here and elsewhere recently.
Even a week ago I was seeing the usual BS laughing at the Tiny Totts nonsense. That seems to be what defines them as a fan-base, especially a lot of the younger glory-hunter types - being better/bigger than us. So this will come as quite a shock to them. Disproportionately so. But, there again, maybe if they hadn't entirely reinvented their whole St Totteringham's thing just so they could pretend they were still celebrating it, they might have realises a long time ago that the huge gulf that opened up, when Mr Scholar jeopardised our club just as theirs got on the BPL/CL/TV money gravy train, wasn't really that great any more. It has really been a hairs-breadth, some shenanigans and some luck that has prevented us from finishing above them for several seasons now. And just squeaking past us on the final day, in the final minutes of the final day was not what St Totteringhams was supposed to be. So they reinvented it to prolong it. But the price is it has clouded their sense of the importance of finishing above us.
In that sense, it serves them right.
It is also funny comparing them to Chelsea fans last season, when they finished tenth. Now Chelsea and their fans are a vile bunch and I have no love for them. But they didn't go through all of these histrionics. I suspect that is because they saw it for just what it was - a temporary blip for a club that could easily buy its way back into the big time. ArseAnal fans, on the other hand, have been going through this hysterical reaction, now, for a couple of years. I think that, for all their bullishness (and the inferiority complex of some of our own), they sense that this could be the beginning of a real reversal in their fortunes and not a one year blip. Chelsea or Citeh can afford it - they are playing with monopoly money. United can afford it - they generate more revenues than any other club in the BPL ATM. So they can't really outspend those three. They can outspend us - but we have the better team and the better youth set-up, we also have better and more modern training facilities and will soon have a bigger, better and more modern stadium (hence why many of them are clinging t the notion that the stadium funding will hamstring us like it did them). And then they have Liverpool and Everton both rapidly improving, too. Perhaps it explains why some of them have been almost frantic about getting Wenger out for a few years - they want someone to spend their way into consolidating their CL/top four place before it becomes more hit and miss. And that is, pretty much this/next season.
Just some thoughts on their, on the face of it, bizarre histrionics about something which is, after all nothing worse than Cheslea, United and Liverpool have endured on more than one occasion in recent years.
As for Wenger, he facilitated this with some trolling and, besides, he connived with Judas to get our best player for free - and got away with it even though it may well have been illegal if he made any contact with It before/during Its final January transfer window at the Lane. So...feck 'im
