One statistic showed the amount of running Deli Alli did and man does he get himself around the field, driving the team on, defending inside our penalty box, linking play, attacking, shooting on goal. What a find, who'll go on to be one of the finest performers the Premier league has seen

The work rate of him, kane and Son certainly noticeable which hopefully inspires others.

Great performance from our young team,Dier is like Carrick quietly going about his business ,can only get better!

He actually has some good passing range..... Somehow he loses it in 2nd half.. Good performance for Dier.

A very encouraging performance in many ways. A noticeable upgrade in intensity and pace, solid defence(no silly mistakes), Dier and Alli outstanding . Always difficult to gauge how much we were being allowed to dominate by the opposition. I think it was very much their game plan and it could have worked as they hit the post twice, but we were worthy winners despite our lack of clear chances. It takes some pressure off and maybe we will play with a bit more confidence against Man City now.
The match also showed just how hard it is to win any PL match now. Despite our good performance, we could have ended with a draw or even lost. Hugo makes a great save, their keeper lets one through him. The margins are so narrow and I think the league is going to be ridiculously congested from 4th down this season. The sooner we get past 40 points the better.
Could do without the midweek match and team selection is going to be tricky. I would definitely rest Kane(probably on bench) and see if Njie could do a job there. It was crying out for us to bring on another(proper) striker in the second half but , as we know, that option doesn't exist.

More of that please Spurs, a few hairy moments but you get them in every game. Solid performance against a tough team but the closing down and work rate overall was great Davies impressing me lately and Lamela looking better. Son is different gravy what a player we have here.

3 clean sheets in league in a row and improving game by game great stuff.

Last shout out to Verts who was immense today. COYS!

very pleased with today's result. Another clean sheet and a team that has pace in it. I gave Lamela a hard time mid week. But a lot of good work came through him today. He still fell over the ball a few times. But hey. One step at a time. Son was class again. And our defence looked solid all day. Loris. Did what he had to do. Great work. On to the goonies!!

Well played to Llamela today.
Looks far more comfortable in center and seems to have finally got some confidence.
Son looks like a fantastic buy.
Goes forward at pace.
Need to score more goals when we're all over teams like that though because we always look like conceding bar super saves or the post and crossbar.
We're away now though.
Far more enjoyable to watch with Son playin :)
Now beat the scum.

So you believe Lamela is a No 8? Am fully on the lamela train since TDD and he has shown MUCH better than ever since then. But in no way is he a No8. As others have said he is better in the Prem centrally but not an 8.
I don't think he's a number 10, or a winger - which makes him unsuited to playing in a three behind the striker. I don't think he is a deep lying playmaker. He is an attacking midfielder (is that what you mean by a number 8?) - someone who breaks forward from midfield while a playmaker stays back. Someone, as I said, like Gerrard or Lampard. This type of player doesn't fit very well into a 4231 formation, which is why Lamela looks so capable yet so awkward at the moment for Spurs.

Not for me mate, he's a number ten all day long. Brillant at the one touch incisive passing, which is what you need in games when the opposition come to sit deep and defend.
Spurs do have a player who is a number 10 all day long: Eriksen. We improved, and scored, when he came on. I don't know where Lamela was playing at that point, but presumably it wasn't as a number 10. He is not (quite) crafty enough in that position.

If we can keep on maintaining this work ethic (as a team), I think Chadli might lose his starting place.
He seems to slow down our swift counter attacks. He also doesn't seem to like getting in to tackles or do much
defensive work as compared to our other attacking players.

After a very rocky and disappointing start to the season there are finally some reasons to be optimistic emerging.

I'm yet to be convinced by Poch but if we can build on today's performance I may start to come back around.

With Kane, Eriksen, Lamela, Son, Alli, Dier and Bentaleb all under 24 we could have a fantastic crop of young players beginning to establish themselves.

Yeah I like Verts coming forward like Terry does for Chelsea. In fact I'm sure he did a step-over at one point, I thought whoa we may have a new CF!

Mate he's more creative than Eriksen albeit the latter is a much bigger goal threat...but the key is Eriksen can play from the left and we wouldn't lose that goal threat really yet the three of Eriksen, Lamela and Son could interchange really well - as they did for the goal.

And that goal doesn't happen without Lamela scrapping for the ball and setting Eriksen away either.

I disagree (slightly) on the first point, and agree on the second. That's why I think Lamela should play deeper. But my opinion is irrelevant anyway - we'll continue to play 4231 and Lamela will continue to look slightly out of position, just as Gerrard, Schweinsteiger or Lampard would look slightly out of position in a 3 behind the striker.

In our setup an 8 would be next to Dier in the CM2. Can you see lamela's skillset, at it best and most effective, being good there? The 10 is Eriksen (mostly). Lamela was playing as one of the AM3 but shading centrally.

I totally agree with you that lamela does not have a perfect fit in our 4231. But if that pretty bastard continues to progress every game as he has thus far this season then I will get his name and number tattooed on my back (I won't).

Yes, I'd like to see him play in the midfield 2, in the Mason position, with Dier beside him and Chadli/Erikson/Son across the frontish three. But if he continues to progress as part of the frontish 3 then I'm happy to be proven wrong by the pretty bastard ;)

Just got back from the game and really pleased with the result against a decent and very well organised Palace side.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm very excited to see this young team develop and I'm extremely optimistic about the future of the club right now.

Took my lad up for his first Spurs game today half expecting a battering as they hit us on the counter - which would probably have put him off Spurs for life and saved him lots of pain.

Instead, I thought we played really well, the back 4 were solid. Alli and Dier were very composed and physical without going overboard and the workrate of Lamela, Kane and Son was absolutely fantastic. In fact only Chadli was a bit underwhelming and he was by no means awful.

All in all I'm only concerned that my lad will think this is the norm!

Well, because he is my adopted son, this shows how well my boy Dier has been playing. Because the requirements of his roll would greatly increase, I feel, with Lamela beside him lol. But I don't care where he continues to get better as long as it continues and his influence on the team grows.
