Did Poch bring in Wanyama from Celtic? If so, I have faith that he has similar ideas to most of us when it comes to 'the screen'.

I suppose the other issue is if we sign Toby ahead of the saints then they could turn the screw by adding a few million to the MS price or refusing us straight out. Could be a tricky situation for Levy.

Alderwield (spl) is complicated because we'll have to effectively bid 3m higher than Saints to get him. That's because Atleti have to pay Saints 3m to remove an automatic pay out clause inserted into his loan. (according to goal.com anyway).

I would be wary of signing defenders from Saints. They do well because in Schneiderlin and Wanyama, they have one of the best midfield screens in the PL. Lovren looks a fish out of water at LFC.
Works both ways mate. Put Lovren in the Chelski back 4 and he'd look very good. Put JT in the Liverpool back 4 and he'd look awful.

Alderweireld looks a decent player and can also play DM. However I wouldn't be bothered if we missed out on him.

this been posted, from this morning?

trix: Not saying there is no interest at all in him [sven bender], but Kramer is the one we'd prefer from Germany.
As regards CM options following a brief chat this morning my friend is led to believe Imbula is the most advanced as things stand, but and it's a big but, we would be pushing all in for the other preferred choices before we fold on them and accept a lower down the list option.

Probably why we still seem so keen on Schneiderlin.

Exactly what I was hoping we wouldn't do anymore. Opposite of for instance Trix's view, I think we should go all in for the best choice of those who we *know* want to come. Rather than spend so much time failing on plan A that plan B players all become unavailable in the meantime, when they in fact could have wanted to sign. I'd rather Spurs succeeded with plan B right away than failing with plan A, B, C before landing D.

It worries me that we'll lose out on Schneiderlin, and have wasted too much time to get our other preferred targets.

Go for plan B first?!! Never heard of anything so stupid before....and I've been reading this forum for a while!

No. Always ALWAYS go for plan A. Just make sure plan A has the right research and planning. But that IS why they are plan fucking A!

OK so that ITK just confirms what we already know it seems.

Our DM list looks to be:

1.Schneiderlin
2.Kramer
3.Imbula

I think it's great we seem to be pretty organised at this stage, but Imbula strikes me as a vastly different style of player to Kramer and Schneiderlin, so it can't just be me who thinks he's a pretty odd 3rd choice?

If you have read this forum that long, you would have at least a vague idea over how many plan As have fallen through, and how many plan Bs have not happened because we spend too much time failing with plan A. When did we last secure a typical plan A sining? NOT counting those who simply happened by sheer dumb luck. When did we last sign a typical plan d-z signing? Hmm...

Yes but probably because plan A's were in fact the wrong choice. Unrealistic targets! (Hazard,Hulk,moutinho.....) We need to get and hopefully now have a better system of scouting and recruiting players.

Lloris, Vertonghen, Soldado, Lamela, and Paulinho were all almost certainly Plan A signings, so really you're talking about Schneiderlin last summer.
