Shocking! Last season we would have been singing up and down seven sisters road if we signed those 2 players. We make a few signings this summer and all of a sudden Hulk and Damiao are not good enough for us!

Not a fan I'm sorry.

There's never been an official statement of 'No sale at any price' from us really and the figures you're talking about are just ones that have been bandied about by the press. There's no need for us to be bullied by Real - we hold all the cards here.

We do. Or at least did. Power could shift if we are willing to sell him and he is unhappy. They could just try n knock money off etc. not saying we'd accept but leaving it so late only goes against us IMO
But it comes across as we are being bullied in the media. Don't know what's true or not but it's all we and general fans have to go by and from what people worldwid including players will form their opinions from

To a certain extent this would actually be a god sign. If clubs keep coming back, it would mean the production line of talent within our club is ongoing.
However, moving past that situation, I'd like to think after this summer's spend up, if its concluded with same calibre it has started with, will push us onto the top table, abc strengthen out position regarding attracting and retaining players. We're not quite there yet, hence Modric and now Bale. But, a couple of seasons of regular CL qualification and genuine challenging for silverware, we'll be in a much better position. I feel this sale (Bale) and subsequent reinvestment, could be the one to push us up that final step.
Coentrao, Chiriches, Lamela and a LF/AM from the Bale cash, we are laughing.
I think there'll be more movement in the striker situation too, with at least one of Ade/Defoe going. I personally haven't ruled out Soldado and Damaio being out two senior strikers come Sept 2nd, with Kane or a Rebic type signing, maybe even a loanee, as third choice.
I think I'll be surprised if they aren't at this point. Got all the hallmarks that signing. We've been crying out for a striker to lead the line the entire time we've been after Leandro. We'll sign the bastage just after Soldado. Would be very Tottenham.

I agree about Damiao but Hulk record against decent opposition is crap even in russia nearly all his goals came against the relegated teams

Seems so long ago now. This can still be an epic win and I hold out some genuine hope for that considering our moves already this summer.

There's no denying a familiarity to this feeling and scenario though is there? Even for the most upbeat and wild optimists amongst us. Please not another heart-breaking end to a summer window.
If we sign Lamela, it still would have been an epic window for me.
Bale < Soldado, Lamela, Capoue, Chadli, Paulinho, Vlad...

It would have been really, good. It's just that Willian would have been the cherry on top. I wonder if they may not even get anyone else instead of him, because he was an opportunistic signing, nobody could have foreseen the Anzh firesale happening.

As I said in my previous post, whatever figures you read about in the press would have been entirely fabricated.

As to Spurs selling at all, it is more than likely that AVB, Baldini and Levy sat down and determined that, actually, they could make the club stronger by cashing in on Bale.

Levy wasn't bullied into this deal. He is only allowing it to go ahead because it suits Spurs as much as it suits Madrid.

Know figured are fabricated in the media but, the only positive us fans can take from the deal is that it will be a record transfer. But isn't this fabricated aswel as as you said there has been no official numbers. How gutted would we be now if he went for anything but. And therefore does the deal suit us? Know we're talking if and buts, but it's all we have to work with ATM.
Hence why I'm so frustrated with thr clubs silence

Agree totally about Hulk. Leandro, meh. Now we've got Bobby, why the fudge not I guess if we've got some spare change lying around.

This is kind of how I feel. Couldn't be much worse than Ade or Defoe last season, surely. Cash in on one or both of those while we can, give Damiao a shot if the price is reasonable.

neither fix our biggest problem which is the dearth of creativity or someone able to pick and spot a meaningful pass.

That's the clincher. Hopefully announce Chiriches at the same time to shore up the defence and then wait to see if some gravy arrives in the last few days of the window.

capoue was replacing Parker. Hulk is replacing Bale.

True. But there are many hat could replace Parker, due to his age and athleticism. Bale is a one off and can hardly be replaced, as his style is not regular. Hulk is much better than average; much better than average is what we have to look for, in the hope they turn great, like Bale.

Was much better than average, but came great under the right tuition.

For the record:cool: I'm not a huge Hulk fan yet.

The way I see it is this:
1) Real talked up the transfer, enabling us to demand top dollar
2) We can sit it out and wait for them to cough up, or we can keep the player. He's too image-conscious to go on strike so will knuckle down if need be. In the meantime, we can set up other possible replacements and make Franco earn his corn
3) We get a world record fee or keep the player. Yay us!

From another Spurs forum.

Kursaal, I really appreciate you passing on the info, that is proper whoring right there. With that said, it would be appropriate in this case to pass on the source of the information so somebody can determine if it is proper ITK or a WUM at work.

Yes because we have nothing else to base it in due to our silence. I'm a fan of levy but can't see why he would let it run until now

And neither do / did the media. Which is why any figures they bandied about were horse shit.

No way would anyone in the media have had a clue about how much Levy really wanted. There are three ways to negotiate successfully:

1. Let the other guy name his price and just keep blanking him until he hits your price.

2. Name a ridiculous price that you know the other guy will never offer and then, after a little bargaining, arrive at a compromise price which is, in fact, the price you always wanted.

3. Leave a horse's head in his bed.

Where'd you hear? I think if Fryers is going out on loan and with BAE seemingly gone we'll definitely be bringing in a LB. Most links were to Coentrao and I believe there was a link to Daley Blind at one point.

Perhaps we are, but don't know wether Fryers leaving on loan has anything to do with it. Guess Vertonghen and Naughton would've been picked as lb instead anyway in case of injury to Rose.
