Yes but we could have got our targets in the first week or even before the window then sold bale. Why leave it till now?

I don't think leaving it til now was the plan. We got main business done, i.e. Soldado and strengthened the midfield. Some transfers take time, others you can get a deal agreed fairly quickly. Each negotiation is different.

Was Hulk the actual answer to A&C's cryptic or are we just talking about Hulk as there is nothing else to talk about? For the love of god and all that is holy we need some ITK now! I will start to worry about people's sanity otherwise.

It's not that simple though is it. Not even Madrid can dictate the timetable for every player they want to sign. Signing a target depends on a ridiculous amount of variables and achieving all of your targets in the first week of the window just isn't realistic or possible. ;)

i dont think we intended to sell Bale, certainly not initially. But fortune seemed to conspire to provide an opportunity to get in Lamela and Willian and we decided to go for it.

Lets be honest, most would take Willian, Lamela and 25m for Bale.

Some big decisions need to be made now. Im sure even our powers that be are havign to think long and hard whether to stick or twist here.

I get the unfortunate feeling that for a few years to come we'll be in a position where we have to sell one of our best talents every few years. It's shitty but it's a fact of life. I think we're going to have to get used to it. If we beat ourselves up this badly when we're selling a player for a world record we've got no chance really, have we?

There's no reason we can't do a Porto/Ajax/Dortmund and continue to succeed regardless.

Yes I understand not every deal can happen straight away. I was using the first week as an extreme.
But levy will have known from the start wether or not he would sell bale, and if it was a case of Madrid finishing the money then set a deadline di we aren't left like we are now. Either we get a replacement in good time, or we keep bale with him knowing we gave Madrid every chance of making it happen.
Also doesn't answer my point if why the club are so quiet!?
Madrid expressed their interest long before ore season and with bale knowingly favouring Madrid there would be no problem in levy saying bale is available fr a record fee. Rather than playing with the fans for months. Also us simply saying bake is not for transfer wouldn't put Madrid off and everyone knows this so we can't say it was an attempt to put Madrid off.
Just a bit annoyed now. Especially after Madrid selling bale shirts and welcoming him, that we still stay quiet, not even denying it or at least saying a deal is not done yet. The fans are being kept in thr dark, despite being the only way a club survives

Erm, a number of ITKs throughout the window, various press reports, and the basic common sense that the player has been feigning an injury for a month, the purchasing club have gone quiet in the press, put up a stand to present him and put his shirt for sale on their site.

Seriously, to believe that Bale will still be a Spurs player after the window closes requires a complete refusal to accept the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

Obviously I hope I'm wrong, but for your own sanity do not do this to yourselves.

To my mind it is extremely plausible that we will make no further signings before the window shuts and Bale leaves.

To deny this as a possibility you must have been sleeping through the last few transfer windows when we sold our best players without adequately replacing them.

My sanity is fine thanks. I DO think this will be done in the end. But we have zilch at this point to say that it's complete....and the events of this week show us that 'done' is not necessarily done until the ink is actually dry on the contract.

I'd actually have agreed with you that they might have got away with not signing anyone normally. There'd be grumbling but we'd muddle through. But this deal is different. This is one of the best players in the world (according to the press). To not replace him would make the club look unforgiveably poorly run.

And that's before you consider the manager who turned down the untold wealth of PSG to stay. Selling his best player and not replacing them probably wasn't a situation he'd have been happy to acquiesce to.

With the exception of Dortmund, It ain't hard to succeed with either Ajax or Porto in their relevant leagues is it? The prem on the other hand is a different beast all together.

Also just to say , with the way it's going I can't actually see it being a record fee! The way we have seemingly backed down and been bullied makes me believe it will be around 50-60! Hope not but being pessimistic after my months of solid and unwaivered optimism

There is plenty reason....we play in a much stronger league where we have 3 current financial super powers instead of Germany's 1 and Portugal and Hollands none...Arsenal will only get richer and richer too.

Don't understand the bale saga tbh. I was always confident he would give us another year, especially with levy and avb saying he's not for sake and staying aswel as bale himself saying this.
But in the last few days it seems he is going. But what I dont understand is the clubs silence on the matter.
If he's going for the right price then say it! What harm would this do to anyone? None, as this is what everyone now believes anyway.
This whole saga has tortured the fans and is not really fair on us! (we can be emotional!)
Don't understand why we would leave it do late aswell. Levy would have always known if we were going to sell him so why leave it till now, giving us little time to get a replacement, and if we do, they will have no time to gel or no pre season with the team.
Don't agree with the way this has been dealt with at all

After everything we've been through, it's easy to forget that it was only a month ago that this shit storm started.

For the first two months of the summer, there was no indication that Bale wanted to leave. In fact, quite the opposite. Bale was repeatedly quoted as saying how happy he was at Spurs and talking about the aspirations he had for the coming season. It was only some time between the Swindon friendly on 16th July and the Hong Kong tournament on 24th July that his head was turned.

Since then, Madrid have clearly been lowballing us and have, apparently been unable to provide proof of their ability to pay anything like what we wanted. If there was a deal to be done at all, there is no way that Levy could have done it any earlier.

I agree, it's horribly frustrating, but I don't know whether or not it's true that we've always been intent on selling Bale. There's been so much shit pumped out by the media that it's very difficult to tell what's really going on. Our silence could mean any number of things.

Why all of a sudden do people think we are above Hulk smh

He isnt a 50m player just like Gareth Bale isnt a 100m player but to call him shit is fucking ridiculous.
