In a few days time soldado will come out and say he wants to stay at valencia like he has the last three seasons...hope im wrong

Well he has already said he is happy at Valencia on a few occasions, but equally understands their financial situation and that has also mentioned in the past that he would be interested in the PL. He's supposedly having talks with them next week and I guess it's to talk about their options because everyone at Valencia knows the dire financial situation they are in

Just 17m more than Utd and Arse so far.
Considering they both finished above us, you could argue that we needed to spend just to have a chance at competing, let alone overtaking. Even with Paulinho would you say we can now finish above man united because we spent more money than them in the TW?

Didnt see Man City winning the league last season, but maybe it is just about money spent now eh... Jesus wept, sorry not aimed at individuals, but the league is not defined or won by how much more you spend over your rivals!

I am glad we didnt spunk 25m on Benteke, i think there are better options out there for that kinda money btw. Plus who is to say we didnt use Benteke to get another team to the table over a striker they own, Soldado, Higuain... Truth more likely is we saw a chance, price was too high, we backed off. I doubt much time and effort was lost until someone shows me timesheets of all staff involved in this supposed saga, you all think they sit around by the phone waiting for Villa to respond to an offer. It IS possible to do multiple things at once you know.

Soldado would be an excellent signing but he is regarding so highly by Valencia it would take 20m for a 28 year old so we can forget that

I genuinely think we have the money and Levy will be prepared to spend if he can see value so step up

Leandro and Bernard

Regarding Ade,

I like the player (when he is on form) but.....

People seem to have this perception that he could be our answer (and yes he could be) but the biggest reason why he didnt get the goals last season was that he was never in the box!!!

now if (big IF) we got someone like bernard in to play on the left and bale on the right we would NEED a forward who would not venture any wider than the width of the 18 yard box!!

This is where I think ade would have a problem!!

P.S this is also why I think a player like Paulinho arriving late into the box would benefit hugely from the Bernard signing!!

AVB said himself that Ade was asked to play that role for the team and, as a result, his scoring form would suffer as a result. Maybe with the advent of players specifically brought in for that role will see him far more central.

I really do hope that JJ's ITK on Bernard is true as he really looks to have all the tools to turn these banks of four around. He has the potential to create absolute carnage.

Allowing for normal inflation, and allowing for transfer inflation, we have not broken our record. Even using the fees involved we have just very marginally broken the old record.

whatever floats your boat dude, in figures - real figures - we have. But if it doesn't support the argument, we find ways of dismissing the point. Bad Levy!

Agree. If it came down to a choice, I'd take Bernard over an elite forward.

You got some statistical evidence to back that up?

If Villa were asking too much money then it is probably right that DL didn't want to pay up, what I find strange however is how quickly Benteke signed a contract extension upon returning to Villa. What it seems like is that we got played by the agent/player and they never intended on coming here in the first place.

From the reports it wasn't just money it was the high sell on, pay 20 million for a player and own 75%? no thanks.

By the way i agree with your post :)

£16m for Negredo?? More like £24m.

Also Valencia already said that they don't have to sell him this season despite being in debt, so they'll be looking for something ridiculous to pursuade them to part with him.

With debts of around 350 mill euro and the Provincial Government taking over the affairs of the club because they defaulted on loans that the government guaranteed saying they don't need to sell him is just so much hot air and posuring in an attempt to get better offers. Unless they can find a huge financial benefactor then they will have few options. The potential deal with Orozco stalled late last year and they have been scratching around to try and find commercial deals but so far nothing has come to fruition

Of course knowing us they'll probably get some rich Arab to take over a day before we finalise a deal for Soldano :D

Soldado and Bernard to add to Paulinho and we can safely say it would be an unbelievable transfer window.

Unfortunately, I'm hugely sceptical on securing one of those, let alone both for big money but the point is we've got time to make this window a great success so got to keep the faith.

Hindsight isn't the issue, as you've said, it's a shambolic lack of scouting that's the problem.
Its a foolish divation from the transfer policy that got us where we are now

All our successful signings in recent times have come from taking calculated risks on players with talent and potential but not yet established enough to be wanted by the mega rich CL clubs we can't compete with (or whos clubs value them in that money bracket)

Even last year our two best signings were similar to the Modric and Berbatov signings - Vertonghen and Lloris

Yet for some reason we've not done this for a striker since Berbatov himself

We seem to feel we need to buy someone more estabilsihed or highly regarded/valued for a striker yet we do not or cannot pay the fees required to sign them and end up empty handed.

I don't get why we can make these signings everywhere except in the place we've really needed to make them for countless windows now

Right, forget the way that we flip our fancies in a bi-polar manner based on stuff that has nothing to do with the players (e.g. Damiao went from a "must sign" player to someone who everyone would run a mile from for no apparent reason), if we were to sign Bernard and Damiao we would solve the two main issues in the squad. Creativity from Paulinho and Bernard (together with Bale, Holtby, Demeble, etc) and a striker who can ge the tap in when the work has been done (Damiao). We would have four current Brazillian players in our team (so they would be playing together week after week - got to help for their international selection as well) - is that not worth a thought!?
The Damiao interest has gone quiet - if we were after him (and as close as has been suggested in the past) that can't have just evaporated due to one knee injury.
I would love to see those two come in. If Bernard has a release clause of less than €25m then there has to be a chance of getting him. Damiao will not want to go to Southampton - Inter have to see that there is an easy deal to do with us, it just means dropping the asking price a bit (they would still make a massive profit on the player).
My onion is that we should go for these two.

Agreed wtih this.

We have a good squad at the moment but we really have to find the correct roles for the likes of Siggy, Holtby and Dempsey. Liked the look of Holtby in the couple of first games, then he faded away because we didn't no how to play him.
We will be challenging for the title if we could pull off signing these two in Soldaddy'o and lil'Bernard.

Forget Leandro because Napoli will beat us to him. De Laurentis said that this type of player suites the team more than H
iguain.

It seemed pretty likely that we were going to spend £20m on Benteke and £10m+ on McCarthy 48 hours ago. We'd have to spend a little more but it wouldn't be an earth shattering additional amount surely?!
seemed according to ITK

And to be fair the profile of Benteke and McCarthy are far lower than Soldado and Bernard. So even if the money matters were similar - the competition to sign and level of difficulty to convince the respective players to sign for us are far greater with the latter pairing

Do you really think we will sign both (or even either) of Soldado and Bernard? not to mention the fact that it would probably cost a good bit more than the £30m you've suggested for Benteke and McCarthy (Soldado himself has been suggested as costing £20m and Bernard £18m )

Yep. Especially as I think Bale will cement himself truly as an elite forward next season anyway, we already have one, imo.

Bernard would give us something different and very much nedded. As does Paulinho tbh. A midfield runner. We could really be some hot shit next season.

IMO If Chelsea buy Rooney or Suarez, we should be in for Lukaku, or Dzeko at Sh--y, i would sooner buy Bernard and Lamela, and some young srikers like, Rebic, Castillo, Muriel, Morata, they cant do any worse than Defoe, Adebayor, last year

5 mil offer for Berbatov and be done.
Something we should have done last Summer, gutted we didn't. Fulham would be mad to accept that for their talisman now, especially with a new Billionaire owner.
