I said when Conte came in charge that I thought we could land the 4th spot. The way things have gone and given how many times we've come up short in the top4 race when it's us vs arsenal for that 4th spot, my brain is finally using experience to dampen expectations and see Arsenal as the logical favourites but I really believe in us to take it all the way and hopefully grab that spot. I think we found the formula and I think if you actually analyse our last 5 recent games compared to Arsenals, I think we're actually a bit more convincing than they are as we're scoring quite frequently and other than set pieces we're not really conceding, they're not conceding either but their games are extremely tight and whilst getting those results is exactly the sort of thing that make the difference at the end, I'm hoping it indicates that perhaps they might perhaps draw a few games where they can't find a way through. I think over course of the season they've been the better team but just over the last 5, I think our performances are looking really solid.

If we can get to the end of the season without any injury to our starting XI I feel so good about our top 4 chances. Paratici did a phenomenal job bringing in personnel that improved our first XI in January and luckily we've seen Doherty raise his game enough to provide adequate threat at RWB. As Conte has said, we are finally beginning to consistently execute his game plan and we also now have an unchanging XI that are finally gelling together after playing together each week.

Our lack of consistency has been a byproduct of a new system, new manager, new players, injuries, and the relentless schedule of modern football. Who remembers how wildly inconsistent Liverpool were at the beginning of Klopp's tenure 2015-2017, when they also would beat the likes of Chelsea and lose to Palace next week? It took time for them to ingrain Klopp's philosophy and bring in players that suited his system.

Have a feeling that Arteta and his young team are more likely to bottle it as we get closer to the end of the season. We just need to keep breathing down their necks and want it more at the NLD.

The thing is, as has been proven with the Bentancur & Deki signings. If we target the right players, the type of players who are capable of handling the pace & physicality of the PL, along with Contes demands.

There's not really any reason why we couldn't improve significantly with a few quality signings in the summer, and then add a couple more in the winter window.

The 2 Juventus guys have already made us capable of matching & beating some not exactly shabby teams. We look competitive.

So no reason a few more quality upgrades couldn't make us even more competitive, and more consistent. IF that were the case, we could be there or thereabouts when the winter window comes along. And then add/Improve with a couple more & push on in the second half of the season.

Yeah it may be somewhat fanciful. But I don't think it's totally unrealistic?
Well SC will be an interesting place to be this time next season then if things go well.

No it won't.

There'll still moaning, there'll still complaining, there'll still be people begging for Poch to return even though Conte just won us our first league title in over 60 years.

It's Spurs Community.

Well you can't count me out on that one because although I loved poch during his time with the club it was imo the right thing that he left.
And Conte I wanted in the summer if he had come in then with a few more players and a pre season we might have been better than we are.
The decision to hire Nuno was ridiculous as it was cheap and rightly so the club got burnt for it.

Looking at the fixtures I think it's realistic for us to get at least 6 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss from our remaining 9 games. That would get us 20 points and take us to 71 points - usually enough for top 4.

Spurs Fixtures:
Newcastle (H)
Villa (A)
Brighton (H)
Brentford (A)
Leicester (H)
Liverpool (A)
Burnley (H)
Norwich (A)
Arsenal (H) - Date TBD

Looking at Arsenal's fixtures - which are much tougher than ours - you'd have to think they will be dropping points in a few games... particularly the 5 games, inc. a block of 4 consecutive games with 3 away, highlighted in red below (which we took 1 point from 15 from):

Arsenal fixtures:
Palace (A) - Tough game and Palace are in a good run of form. We lost this fixture.
Brighton (H) - Home banker.
Southampton (A) - They would expect to win this, but tougher than it looks. We drew this fixture.
Chelsea (H) - Hopefully Chelsea will be as up for this as they would be against us. We lost this fixture.
Man U (A) - A draw here would be a great result for us! We lost this fixture.

West Ham (A) - Hopefully West Ham are out of the Europa League by then and will not be recovering from, or resting players for a big mid-week game. We lost this fixture.
Leeds (H) - Home banker
Newcastle (A) - A lot harder now than it was when we won up there.
Everton (H) - We really need to hope Everton are fighting for their lives and need at least a point to stay up
Spurs (A) - Date TBD

Impossible to predict results especially where our club is concerned.
It's possible that we now go on a bit of a run and make a real go at top four, or we get as often is the case when the pressure is on the team struggles with expectations and we lose the next 2/3 and it's game over.
I wonder whether the PL are waiting to see if it becomes a battle for fourth between us and arsenal and they squeeze this game in near the end of the season, the TV companies would love a NLD for it's viewing figures.

Sorry if posted/asked elsewhere, but is there any idea when the NLD will be?

It can't be after all the other last games of the season and I doubt it will be before many of the other games, so I wonder if it will be w/c 16 May as the City game in 2010 was played with one gaming remaining.

It would be another bitter pill to swallow if the Gooners beat us in the NLD and pip us to a CL place, knowing that they got away with the dodgy earlier postponement when they were in much poorer form than they are now.

We are a much better team than we were back then, and playing like it. I think it was a mistake on their part to postpone.

I genuinely expect this game against Newcastle to be a tough one. We've got most of our first team away on international duty meaning less time for Conte to train our lads for the match.

Our Entire back 5 is available for Conte - Emerson/Doherty, Dier, Romero (back tomorrow), Davies, Reguilon

If at all anything, Conte needs to spend more time with them than forwards or likes of Hojbjerg Bentancur
