I'll have some of whatever it is you've had please.
Not sure why people can’t be a bit more optimistic, we beat city in their own back yard, and I guess will see where this starting 11 is at when we play pool. if we beat or draw with them why can’t we mount a title challenge next season if we get the right backup and reinforcements? Conte isn’t here for 4th place!

We've only just won two in a row for the first time in ages. Teams are getting over 90 points to win the league in this era. Would love it but it still feels a little distant.

I think we will be up there next season competing for the title, or just in behind the top two.

It's clear to me that the Juve lads and Romero are improving us significantly, and coupled with Conte's system becoming more familiar to the players.

If we get 4/5 of the players we want I expect us to be well ready for next season.

Winks, Royal, Bergwijn, Rodon, Sanchez and Lucas we'll be actively trying to sell I think.

Maybe keeping Lucas dependent on interest and offers but the majority of that list I expect to be gone.

Yet we couldn't get anything against one of the poorest utd teams for years.
Talk of us challenging for the title is stuff of dreams and utter nonsense, we might put in a challenge for 4th place but title no chance.

Do you think Conte will stick around if that’s the goal. Only reason United won that game is because Ronaldo had a freak performance and was unstoppable. Apart from that we bossed it.

We could have got something against what you describe as one of the poorest United team for years, though.

I think we were the better team on the day, but we got a little bit slack & got undone by one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

That happens. Chin up, SB. We're getting better with every game ?

I don't think that's the only goal and I agree with you, Conte will want us to be up there, not just challenging for top 4. But in no way is that going to be the case next season. Unless we have a massive investment in first teamers over the summer. I think working towards that is fair enough but cannot see it next season, the front 3 are so far ahead of us.

It is not about the quantum of investment - its going to be about quality of recruitment.

Lets say we get 4 new signings for RWB LWB LCB & 2nd ST - if those 4 are quality signings who can hit the ground running like Bentancur or Kulu, then that in itself will help us get 15 more pts easily. We finally have a identity & a pattern of play - so IMO, just 3 or 4 signings could take us up there with Liverpool or City. But that level may not happen start of next season but I do feel by end of season our performance levels could be around City or Liverpool - because Conte isnt going to settle for anything else.

But then we first have to walk before thinking of running & flying. So this season we got to finish in top4 to give the much needed ammunition to get players for summer.

We were the better side. Play that game again ten times and we'd be taking something from it 8/9 times out of ten.

Ronaldo had a worldly individual display which saved them.

'Might be put in a challenge for fourth place'...yeah lol.. like that's Conte's ambition.

Fucking hell the negative mindset with some of our fans is incredible.

I'm not saying we'd win the league next season but Conte will be wanting us to challenge for it.

That's the way winners think and he'll have more of the tools to kick us on.

It's also very apparent that we starting to resemble a Conte team.

Looking forward to revisting this thread next season.

Can you pick a day to be optimistic and look for the positives. Your posts come across like you get no enjoyment from life. I read them hearing Eeyore's voice.

Lets be honest; it's all going to come down to how well we do at Liverpool and the result of the NLD. If we can avoid defeat up there and couple it with a win against the goons then I think we will take it (fourth).

For those saying we can't go on a run, i disagree. We are looking at a light fixture list now with adequate prep time before every game. If Liverpool beat Benfica in the QF then they will have a midweek game (4/5) before they play us (7/5), working in our favour.

It's not negative at all fourth is possible I agree but not a title challenge maybe in a few years but it's going to take a bit of work.
Nothing negative at all just a healthy dose of reality we have all supported this club long enough to know about pressure on delivering anything.

Agreed, it will massively improve us. Would require a lot of players moved on to facilitate it, and 100% need to sign a cm to replace winks. But if we do all that, then yeah I think we could seriously mount a challenge.
Then the next summer we require an elite GK, a central CB and an elite player for the front 3. So you need less signings to build upon.

I think we need around 6 players to make the team stronger although I think it will have to be done over two windows which is why I don't see a title challenge.
I think many are getting caught up with Conte taking over at Milan and juventus and winning titles the season after, but this league is far more competitive and has some strong teams in it just look at west ham now.
Will be interesting to see if there are any youngsters from the academy who might make it into the first team squad next season.

We just rolled over West Ham with ease. I’m not worried about them and they will lose rice this summer.

I'm always very optimistic and have said we'll get top 4 all season. I do also think/hope we'll be right up there next season, but I don't think that'll happen without improving the first team in a few key areas. RWB especially, probably another top CB too. I do rate Davies in a 3, but still think we need to upgrade.

As you said, the rest just need to be good quality squad players. I think Conte will be backed this summer too, just hope he's backed early in the window.

The thing is, as has been proven with the Bentancur & Deki signings. If we target the right players, the type of players who are capable of handling the pace & physicality of the PL, along with Contes demands.

There's not really any reason why we couldn't improve significantly with a few quality signings in the summer, and then add a couple more in the winter window.

The 2 Juventus guys have already made us capable of matching & beating some not exactly shabby teams. We look competitive.

So no reason a few more quality upgrades couldn't make us even more competitive, and more consistent. IF that were the case, we could be there or thereabouts when the winter window comes along. And then add/Improve with a couple more & push on in the second half of the season.

Yeah it may be somewhat fanciful. But I don't think it's totally unrealistic?

I agree.

Football changes quite quickly. We spent years around 5th-6th but with a large gap between us and the top 4. Then Poch put his team together and before you knew it we were a consistent top 4 team, twice hovering around a title challenge.

Livepool were performing poorly in the league for years. A few good signings by Klopp and they're now consistently contending for the top honours.

We've already made a few very good signings this season. Another few and we could see ourselves propelled to a much higher level..
