A lot of Arsenal fans look at us the way we look at West Ham. Sad, but true.

Arsenal see ManYoo and Chelsea as their major rivals.

Do you think that Arse fans would sooner see us win the Premiership than Man Utd or the Chavs?

Not a chance.

Do you know any Arse fans who wanted us to beat the Chavs in the Carling Cup final?

They used to be football purists like ourselves but never had the spending power to achieve real success. I do have a soft spot for them. The younger set of Spurs supporters may not have heard about the famed West Ham academy that produced so many of the better coaches and managers of the 70s and 80s.

Yeah,like Geoff pike,George Parris,Bobby Barnes,the academy was myth!

Cottee,Devonshire that about it from the 80s

yep the famous 'West Ham' academy - unfortunately the last 2 times they've played us it seems it was more like the school for thuggery and lump kicking that their players seemed to have attended

hammers weren't like this in the 60s - indeed there was no real bitterness that I recall between us in the 60s, rivalry yes of course - I actually stood on the terraces with some west ham and spurs friends in the 2-2 classic in the mud at Upton Park around about 68

and bobby moore and greavesie once famously did a bit of a dance together on the pitch - happy days long gone

sad to see them trying to kick their way up the lge nowadays

Yeah, I remember that little jig Greavesie and Moore did, and I think I still have a cutting of the Daily Mirror of that somewhere among my scraps.

A lot of my Gooner mates congratulated me and said that we were the better team. There is no way I would've done the same, if Arsenal win any cup final, played well etc; yes I am bitter.

They see us as a small club. Yeah, we're local rivals, but the new breed of Gooner pities us in a condescending way; in a similar way on how many Spurs fans perceive West Ham.

Their so-called academy was more about thoughtful players who used to discuss tactics after games and those players later became managers and coaches. The likes of Greenwood and Allison that I'm talking about.

Perhaps the 80s was a little untrue but some of those people connected with West Ham from the 50s were still around in the 80s.

I'm sorry mate, but how old are you and where on earth do you live!?!?!? No Arsenal fan over the age of 18 wil lfeel like that, especially if they live here in Tottenham! There is no team they will hate losing to more than us, no team they like beating (unless it's in a final or a must win game) more than us, and there's no way I or many Spurs fans feel like that about West Ham! If we lose to West Ham, I'm gutted but just as much as losing to any team, if we lose to Arsenal it's a whole different kettle of fish! And when we beat them, it must be even worse for their fans (given that they have been a lot more successful than us over the last 20 years)!!!! They must hate losing to Chelsea and Utd, but mainly because their games over the past 10 years have been 6 pointers! Utd and Chelsea may be their biggest rivals for trophies but they are in NO WAY their biggest rivals!

As someone said after lasagna gate and hearing west ham fans taking such satisfaction from stopping us get the CL place my opinion of them went down alot. These days out of the london teams we tend to be the closer rivals as they know they wont match up to chelsea on arsenal. I think it also has to do with the working class thing as was mentioned, Both sets of fans are working class and both teams have a tradition of playing good football but we've had more success and they cant stand it. We look at arsenal in much the same way as they can play excellent football with a swagger and it riles us even more that they are no longer a boring team.

Haven't you considered that they do the condescending shite to wind you up and put Spurs down and that in reality they hate us as much as they ever have, also it maybe that your mates are plastics and not real goons.

We've had this sort of discussion before, there is a very simple test with football supporters, who do they sing about?

Go to a proper goon pub incognito, I know you'll feel dirty, but for experiment purposes give it a go, then come back on here and tell us who they were singing about, it'll be us because we are their main rivals, supporters sing about the team they hate the most, for us it's the scum and for them it's Spurs, same for citeh and united and so on.

I hate West Ham, mainly because so many of my friends support them, but I would not call them 'rivals'. The league suggests it at the moment, but they are inferior and will never amount to anything. Bloody Banger and Mash eating gimps.

Come to think of it, I hate all other teams......

I used to like West Ham, but then I realized how much they hated us.Eek And what for? What have we ever done to them, aside from giving them Bobby Zamora?

As I say, I used to like them, but now I just laugh at them, because they hate us and we don't give a fuck about them.

Have they really won only 4 trophies?

I hate Arsenal as a club more than anyone else. But i think i hate the West Ham fans more. And Chelsea are just ****s.

Arsenal fans are just arrogant but so would we be if we had their success over the last 15 years. Still doesn't make them any less of the bunch of ****s that they are. I've hated Chelsea moreso in the last few years since they cheated their way to the top when they should be where Leeds Utd are now. And Hammer fans in the whole are a bunch of chavvy fucknuts with 3 brain cells between the lot of them. They are ALWAYS giving it about us even though we're constantly better than them. I do have quite a few Hammer mates and individually they're alright, get them together and they become turds.

I like Russell Brand though.

The main thing is though, that i always expect to beat them at home and get something away, so i don't get anywhere near the thrill of when we beat Arsenal or Chelsea (but i do still get a massively big fucking thrill, don't get me wrong). And the problem is, despite the fact i still believe we are the team Arsenal fans want to beat most, they don't get that thrill as much as when they beat Utd or Chelsea, because they expect to win, like we do against the Hammers (not for much longer though if the last 3 matches against Arse are anything to go by...woo hoo!)

So, erm, yeah... Hammer fans are generally Divchavs. Or Chavdivs. ****s.

The citeh analogy is a good one because United's real rivalry is with Liverpool; not Man Citeh (no matter what a Citeh fans says!) This is because city haven't had the success Liverpool have had and most ManYoo fans were jealous of Liverpool in the 70's and 80's, and in a similar way, we haven't had the same recent success Arsenal have had.

Goto the Alexandra Arms on Cromwell Road in N10. You will feel very dirty afterwards...

Well I don't live in Taipei mate. There must be huge Arsenal/ Spurs rivalries over there!

We are their local rivals, but definitely not their main rivals for trophies - we were 20 years ago...

Both sets of fans perceive each rivalry different or "bigger" or whatever... Arsenal see us as their local rivals, where as we think as them as our biggest rivals.

Unfortunately, the Goons are correct in their thinking. Maybe when or if we start challenging for the title, then the rivalry will be what it once was...

I remember getting absolutely blasted for making this argument not so long ago. As you say, the Man City parallel is spot on - local rivals, not biggest rivals.

GL, I agree with you. And I haven't done that much lately

Can I just say that after some fucking 'orrible times in the late 70s/early 80s braving their shithole of a ground and running the gauntlet of the chicken run's retarded inhabitants, other than one very good school friend of mine, I have always held a very healthy hatred of them. Even Stevie Archibald said he used to hate them!!!!! Thus as much as I like to think I've grown beyond the thrill of giving them a fucking good pasting, I was laughing so hard yesterday. Put i this way; my true spirit came out when I was, during the 92nd minute, screaming at our players for not going to get a 4th goal...and thank fuck we did!!!!!!!! Oh how I laughed!!! Knees up mother fucking brown indeed, woooaaaaa hahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Why oh why do you keep differentiating between this type of rival and that type of rival. You're so wrong about your analogy with regards to citeh and loserpool, I was at old trafford last year for united versus the spammers as a united mate of mine had tickets and we went up. Went to lots of united pubs and alot of abuse dished out some towards loserpool but predominantly to citeh, as a neutral it was very, very easy to see who united hated the most and it was citeh, even though the scousers are more of a threat and have more trophies.

This has fuck all to do with who is winning what currently, only plastics think like that or youngsters in the school playground.

I've told you before, I've lived all my life in North London and know alot of gooners and they all hate us more than any other team. I don't know who the fuck you're bumping into but they are either young and naive, on a wind up of you or just got into football and believe sky fucking tv and the wank infested media.

We are there rivals bar none.

And that pub you mentioned is a shit tip.

Citeh's dislike of United stems from the fact that they jealous of the Uniteds success, Uniteds dislike of Citeh stems from the fact that they are jealous that Citeh's fans live in Manchester while Uniteds have to travel up from London every second week.
