Do we really have a big rivalry with West Ham?

I only found out a couple of years that there might be a bit of a rivalry there. My dad only found out then as well, and he's been supporting Tottenham for about fifty years!?

I used to quite like West Ham because they had so many former Tottenham players...

I get the impression that they consider us to be one of their biggest rivals, but do we feel the same about them?

My mate is a massive West Ham fan and said he wanted Chelsea to beat us in the Cup Final. Says it all really.

I never ever thought of them as anything else but poor relations, they talked the talk but hardly walked the walk.

they basically just looked for a rival and randomly picked us did they??

the fact we dont really even consider them a rival particularly is strange

always great when we beat them though so i guess there is a bit of a rivalry

It's mainly all from the Spammers side, as to be honest the only team I consider as rivals are Ar5ena1 (hee hee first time I've gotten to write it like that!!!).

I find it a bit sad I think to be honest, as we've never done anything to make them dislike us so much (as far as I know anyways!).

It is sweet beating (no thrashing) them though as they get so self-important if they beat us!

I fucking hate West Ham. I suppose that's a result of an Essex upbringing, and having a majority of Spammer mates. I fucking loved it yesterday. Been getting all their "8 points" and "bottom half of a table team" shit constantly via text, email and face-to-face and any other communication method they've discovered, so yesterday my email has remained clear, my texts unresponded to. Brilliant!

well there's the obvious geographical point - their real rival is probably Orient or Millwall - but obviously prefer to go 'upmarket' and target us

it's a shame for them as we've won 17 trophies and they've won 4 - in fact we've won more trophies since they last won one (1980) they've won in their entire 100+ year history

in terms of trophies they're actually nearer millwall and orient than us- but being the misguided dreamers they are ('fortune's always hiding' indeed) think they ought to be dining on the same table as the likes of us Villa and Everton, - sorry lads - double figures only on our table :)

Stumbling block team. They get in the way of better teams and occassionally beat them (Man Utd must really hate them)

I started going to WHL in 1972 and went regularly until the mid-80s. Saw a lot of rucks, as you did in those days, and did a lot of running along railway platforms - chasing and being chased.

I remember Spammers teaming up with the Arse to ambush Spurs fans at Kings Cross and points north and east. It seemed to me that the support for those clubs was interchangeable.

Of course, during the 70s we had vicious fights with the Shed, and Chelsea hated us because we invariably stuffed 'em. We didn't consider them rivals but they did us.

Surely the point is: Spurs are the most hated and envied side in London.

Why? Because we've got the most glorious history, the greatest footballing tradition, easily the biggest fanbase and noisiest support, and we're a bunch of arrogant ****s who've always looked down our noses at the other London sides.

And rightly so.

I think Stoof hit the nail on the head when he mentioned Essex.

Seems to me that there are a large number of both SPurs and West Ham fans in the Essex area and as such they are forced to interact with one another on a daily basis.

This leads to a rivaly as obvious whoevers team has lost gets a ribbing from their friends/people they know who support the other team.

Id imagion it goes back to school days etc.

Also there are a lot of Arsenal fans in the same area but they seem t o have a bit more of a bonding (mutual dislike for us)

Plus West Ham other the years (recent years) have probably fancied themselves to be close to us in terms of league postion and made rivials of us (even though we see them as being way beneth us)

They probably have never been close enough to Arsenal in competitive terms to see them as rivals so have them as some sort of 'second club' and live their glory through the Arsenal (i.e. reval in seeing Arsenal beat us)

I hate the West Ham, but not as much as the gooners of course..

Also a good rivalry between the two clubs, and as usual required a lot of metropolitan police on sunday!!
