Can anyone explain to me why they would drop Alli, bearing in mind he hasn't started any of the "lesser" games recently and will get a rest the following weekend when we play Colchester?

I think Poch will probably go with: Lloris, Trippier, Toby, Jan, Rose, Dembele, Dier, Eriksen, Alli, Lamela, Kane - Personally I think Son deserves a run in the team because of his great performance last night however even though Lamela has been a bit below par these past couple of weeks his pressing off the ball is probably too important to the team to drop him at the moment. Neither Eriksen or Alli do it nearly as well as he does so if anybody was to be dropped it is more likely to be one of those two.

But if Son is the one to come in, he works and presses as hard as anyone. So, in effect, I don't think the team shape or off the ball intensity will suffer at all.

Pardew has confirmed Palace will have the same squad that faced City and Hennessey will start in goal despite his recent blunders.

That's great news IMO and we should definitely be starting Son - even more now because he has a real shot on him and we should be looking to test Hennessey as much as possible for obvious reasons.

would definitely give Lamela a rest he looked tired last night, or should I say his performances have dropped last couple of weeks. I would give him a rest till the Norwich away game to recharge his batteries. would also give Dier sometime off too.

I would give Chadli a run out to gain some much match fitness as I believe he will be playing a similar role v Colchester

Seems to be a lot of denial that Lamela needs dropping and there's some grasping around going on about who should be dropped in his place now Son has staked a claim - and Dier seems to have been picked as the victim. Not gonna happen. Dier's quite clearly going to start.
I am one of Lamela's biggest fan and like most agree that he has not been up to usual standards so should be rested. Stop provoking for an argument when one isn't called for.

Lloris

Trippier Toby Verts Rose

Dier Carroll

Son Dembele Erikson

Even though I agree Lamela's not been at his the best the last couple of games he still does well and he always looks like he can make something happen. He is normally always involved if we score or he makes a clever pass etc It always makes me feel more confident when hes on the team sheet. So I personally wouldnt drop him.

What a difference a year makes to a player. Lamela was getting blasted left, right and centre as not fitting in or not being good enough. Now I feel he is one of the first names on the team sheet as his workload and other attributes are really helping the entire team. If he plays this week ok for me. If he's rested he deserves it. Either way in Poch we trust.

Some interesting selections for Poch ahead of this. I'm sure he'll swap the full backs because we all know that will happen but I'm sticking with Walker. And providing Son only picked up a slight knock and we took him off as a precaution, he definitely has earned a start after tonight.

Surely we can give Dier a rest here. They havn't scored in five games and we'll dominate the ball. Bolasie is out and that really negates the speed of their counter attack. That said its still an away game and he's formed a very formidable defensive axis with Toby and Jan so I fully expect him to start. Just think this could be a good time to give him a break and we've a lot of games coming up.

Also much prefer Alli in the CM2 as opposed to in behind Kane or alongside him.

Lloris

Walker
Toby
Jan
Rose

Dembele
Alli

Lamela
Eriksen
Son

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Dier, Bentaleb, Carroll, Chadli

Leicester were in as bad of form coming to WHL little over a week ago and left with the 3 points so take no game lightly. Dier sitting back allows our fullback to get as far forward as they do. Take away that protection and we could leave ourselves open. Rest Dier perhaps in a home game where we dominate possession. I wouldnt be leaving himout of this one. Palace are not a bad side, theyve just been hit with injuries.

What I'd like to see, but not what I expect to see:

Lloris

Trippier Toby Jan Davies

Dembele Mason/Alli

Son Eriksen Chadli

Kane

Give Erik a bit of a rest, give Son a chance to start, same with Chadli. They've earned it.

Desperate to see Mason back in the side personally.

Team for Palace-:

Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Son, Eriksen and Kane.

With Crystal Palace lacking confidence recently I would go at them early and if Son is fit enough I would award him with a start after his fantastic display.

I know it's a big call to bench Alli but I feel Son warrants a start after the cup display.

Palace are known for there pace on the wings so I'd play walker and Rose to combat that. The rest of the team picks itself.

Personally I don't think he should be an automatic starter yet - we have options and we should use those options. After performing well in the cup both Son and Chadli deserve a go IMO, and I really want to see Mason back with Dembele in the CM2.

Alli's great, he's clearly insanely talented, but we have options we are just as good we can choose to use and some of his overall play hasn't been quite as amazing as some might have us believe.

Not sure why people are suggesting Alli won't play. 0% chance of that happening if he's fit.
No one is suggesting he "won't" play, people just giving their preferred choices/opinions. The majority of which are including him, same as you.

I'd be tempted to drop Dier for bentelab this one game.
He always plays no matter the competition and has started looking the weaker for it
