Some interesting selections for Poch ahead of this. I'm sure he'll swap the full backs because we all know that will happen but I'm sticking with Walker. And providing Son only picked up a slight knock and we took him off as a precaution, he definitely has earned a start after tonight.

Surely we can give Dier a rest here. They havn't scored in five games and we'll dominate the ball. Bolasie is out and that really negates the speed of their counter attack. That said its still an away game and he's formed a very formidable defensive axis with Toby and Jan so I fully expect him to start. Just think this could be a good time to give him a break and we've a lot of games coming up.

Also much prefer Alli in the CM2 as opposed to in behind Kane or alongside him.

Lloris

Walker
Toby
Jan
Rose

Dembele
Alli

Lamela
Eriksen
Son

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Dier, Bentaleb, Carroll, Chadli

Agree that Dier has needed a rest for some time, but with the cup game the following weekend I'm sure Poch will choose that weekend to rest him.

Son deserves to start if fit and I'd drop Lamela to the bench to accommodate him ( although I'm sure this will invoke shock and outrage).

They'll sit back deep, so yeah, Dier's definitely not necessary for this one.

Highly doubt he'll be left out though - Poch's starting 11's are usually fairly conservative.

Don't think Walker can play twice in a week, don't think he has yet this season anyway.

Personally, I think it will be

Lioris

Trippier
Toby
Vertonghen
Rose

Dier
Dembele

Lamela
Eriksen
Alli

Kane

Assuming Son is fit I'd say he's played his way into the team ahead of Lamela.

Not sure if it's fitness or a more worrying return to his bad old ways, but in the last few games Lamela has been very underwhelming. Either way I'd give him a rest and let him build back up through a subs appearance.

I think after that the team largely picks itself apart from at fullback. Walker did well tonight but I think Trippier's final ball gives him an edge, and Rose is ahead at left back for me.

So I'd go:

Lloris

Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose

Dembele Dier

Son Alli Eriksen

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Wimmer, Carroll, Lamela, Chadli, Walker, Bentaleb

It'll be this, bar maybe an unexpected change at full back.... I would be flabbergasted if we saw anything else in the other positions

Lamela needs a rest. Been well off his game of late. Son in for him if fit. Otherwise as you were.

Seems to be a lot of denial that Lamela needs dropping and there's some grasping around going on about who should be dropped in his place now Son has staked a claim - and Dier seems to have been picked as the victim. Not gonna happen. Dier's quite clearly going to start.

Would play this for Palace:

Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Dier Alli
Son Dembele Eriksen
Kane
So that we can play this vs. Colchester:
Vorm
Trippier Cameron Carter-Vickers Wimmer Rose
Bentaleb Carroll
Son/Lamela Onomah Pritchard/Son
Chadli
We get to see what CCV can do vs. League 1 opposition while Walker gets on track to play against Norwich and Manchester City and Rose gets on track to sit out Norwich and play against Watford if and when we go with a back three against them again.

Eriksen looks out of place playing against Colchester and it feels weird starting him in that match, but it would give him 9 days rest before important matches start in February. Unless of course we sign a striker, then you could start/sit Eriksen for Palace and play the striker in his place and have him well and truly fresh for important February fixtures. Also Pritchard hopefully could be back in the fold as well for Colchester. That was a good advancement for him.

EDIT: I've seen that Lamela has started a ton of games in a row and played quite a lot of those minutes, so I've elected to give him the rest instead of Eriksen against Palace so we can hopefully have them as fresh as possible for the remainder of the busy season.

Jesus Christ. Dier is quite clearly not picked as victim to accomodate Lamela, but because it's time he gets a rest. As people are stating rather clearly. Suggesting otherwise is just ridiculous.
