On the train home with a fuzzy head. Great performance today. Bentancur and Richarlison the stand outs. Hojbjerg also excellent. Starting to come together now. COYS

How can you tell we played well...... The match thread was only 42 pages at the final whistle.

What does that tell you about how vocal the negativity is compared to the positivity on here.
That's just a society thing though isn't it?

We played well at home to a newly promoted team, although I was very nervous for those crazy 10 minutes.
Doesn't change how we played in the other games though does it?

Unbeaten, on a journey, I get frustrated with our ball retention and just don't buy into some posters justification for it when the players and Conte himself say afterwards we didn't executive the plan .

Positive or negative, agree or disagree we are all Spurs fans who want this team to finally achieve something, I don't really get the need to get after people though?

It’s bollocks, it was brought in to allow more goals to stand...it achieves the complete opposite.
I keep repeating this, but when they have to get the lines out to see if it's offside, the error isn't clear and obvious, and the on field decision should stand. And for other situations, if VAR can't make their mind up within 30 seconds, it's not clear and obvious and the on field decision should stand.

Something I also noticed today was how good Hojberg and Bentancur were, excellent crisp passing, all over the pitch and getting stuck in, they played so well as a 2 almost looked like we had a 3 man midfield.

Looking back I think something that helped them look as good as they did (Not taking away from their performances they were brilliant) was having 2 excellent wide ball playing centre backs. We have very clear instructions how to play out from the back which usually involves a centre back passing to either Hojberg or Bentancur then back to a defender then pushed on quickly. The idea being by passing into the 2 mids pushes the opponent to press them, then higher up to the defenders, 2 or 3 quick accurate passes straight through their midfield sets us straight up for a attack.

Having Romero and Lenglet really means we can play those final passes forward much better with zip. Makes a huge difference to how we set up to attack.

This I liked a lot.

They could help themselves by making the margin for offside wider. Or instead of using the lines, go with a very quick visual to confirm.

I thought they were going to rule Kane's out, despite it clearly being onside by the rules.

Not the greatest performance but I think we’re making headway week after week. I think what we need to realise is Conte played the best system to suit the player he had last season. He now has different players, brought in the suit the system he wants to play so the adaption for every player is reset and we start from the beginning again.
I really feel positive things are ahead for us COYS!

This.

We want the correct decision but with offisides it can take over a minute for them to see.

I think the VAR team should go on a quick visual check. If it's clear they can call that to the ref, if not then the assistant's decision stands.

Perhaps only check back if the assistant flags, if he doesn't, let it stand?

The ref should only go to the video for penalties and reds as those are not done alongside a goal celebration and can require a detailed look.

But not offsides, it sucks the life out.

Just got off work, watching the game now. Absolutely dominating performance, so good to see. Hope this can be replicated against other teams as well. Everybody composed and running for each other, good pressure, no passivity, great combinations. Love it!

Just watching the extended highlights, and to me Romero didn’t look like he was moving too comfortably for the Mitrovic goal. Hopefully he didn’t tweak his injury

From my POV regarding negative posts. When I'm enjoying a game I rarely post during it. But will post afterwards to eulogise/dissect.
When it's boring me I tend to post during (negative and positive)

Didn't post during the game today and thought we played some really nice stuff.

I don't post so much 'in game' because in I am in Ireland and can be anywhere between 20 -90 seconds behind real time so for my own enjoyment I I follow the match threads watching out for that burst of three or four pages when you know someone has scored- I.e. GTFI or GTFO

This is what I was saying on Wednesday.

Some were saying that our midfield is the issue, it isnt just that.

With Lenglet and Romero, you have two players who can draw in the opposition and build patterns. They also have the ability to draw out the opposition and then ping balls into the front three.

Sanchez and Davies have severe limitations with this.

So even if Bentancur had played Wednesday we would have had similar issues because the defenders can't work the space or attract the opposition.

It's why Bissoumas performance shouldn't be judged to harshly until he gets that benefit too. He will be able to play his natural game, knowing he has competent ball players behind him.
Great post, in a back 3 formation, especially 3-4-3, your wide CB’s and/or ideal all 3 CB’s need to be good ball players

I think we might find our gameplay improves playing 3 times a week. There's only so much you can do in training, and the more we put what we've learn't on the training ground into practice the better.
Yea was thinking the same mate that it could be good for our rhythm and getting players like Lenglet and Bissouma and Perisic and Richarlison all more and more up to speed.

Only thing is last season we did best when conte had a full week to prep the team and traditionally he’s not been the best manager in the CL tbh although with us I feel like as you say playing twice a week will actually help us and our rhythm etc

No, for the purposes of what people are complaining about, it's not a society thing, it's an SC thing and goes beyond just positivity v negativity, if it were that the people who are constantly ruining this thread for others would be in here, at least saying something, participating. But not a word. It's their thing, it's obviously not what they do and people are very very entitled to say something about that. This thread can do without that and them.

Yeah I think his post match today is much clearer but it'll probably be ignored by some. He says we can't afford to make mistakes with transfers. It's clear he means we can't just buy to fill gaps, because we will be buying again in 6-12 months time. He's said this from the start. We have not bought well in the past, and we are now paying the price for that by not being able to sell them.

They've automatically interpreted it to mean he wanted them all this window and it just isn't the case. Fact is we could have spent more this window, but is it really worth it if Conte didn't want them and it affects us for the next few years as they move from loan to loan.
Spot on, I think when he says we can’t make mistakes he also means because our budget is more limited it’s even more important for us to get signings right because we don’t have hundreds of millions to keep splashing to rectify it if we get some signings wrong.

I think this is why our two big outlays were on players from the PL in Bissouma and Richarlison as they’re a lot lower risk as they’re already adapted to the league at a good level and to living in the country, speaking the language etc. very sensible moves.

I think Conte believes in this project but is wary that we really have to get the recruitment spot on in order to achieve success soon / or at all.

2-1 is not a fair reflection - we were so much better than them. I thought we weee very good today. Everyone did well and Richarlison was brilliant, but I think Bentancur and Romero are a cut above. They might never steal the headlines but I think they’re unbelievable. Best we’ve played so far this season, for me

And since Conte's been at the helm, we have. The early indications are that our recruitment so far will have a very impressive hit rate. No need to take risks, imo, what we're doing is working.

Watched extended highlights. Our best performance for a while. Could, and should, have been a thumping. Shame we nearly threw all that hard work away. Lloris with the ball at his feet is a heart in mouth moment. What a shot stopper though.
Lenglet looks good.
Richarlison was superb, so unlucky not to get on score sheet.
Special mention to Emerson who is slowly turning me around.
Great 3 points. Looking forward to Wednesday night.
Not looking forward to getting home lateand going to work Thursday.

This would definitely be a sensible and proportionate course of action.
Thought Romero looked tired based on that attempted tackle so thought Davinson would be more solid for the remaining 10 minutes.
I didn’t express it in the best way as I was very nervous after they scored. Apologies to all. Just want to make it clear I’m not usually so reactionary/negative
