Two in midfield is still a huge problem when playing out from the back. Passing options were easily shut down. Only changed in the second half when Fulham had to chase. They got ragged and we found it easier.
I agree 2 in the middle is a huge problem when you don't take advantage of your overload in the wide areas. I feel because we don't trust the wing backs we try and play through the middle, which limits the speed of our transition.

This is then doubles with Son being unable to hold up the ball.

However I am a believer we need to have the right personel to move between 2 and 3 in the middle of the park.

Romero will make that in a couple of weeks, that’s three yellows in three games now, almost like he’s making up for missed time
His booking was ridiculous. How did he think it wasn't going to be a foul, with his foot over his own head, near an opposition player? He baffles me at times.

I was certain it'd be a third straight loss for us yesterday so I'm just happy for the three points. Couldn't care less about the crap performance atm.

He has an incredible ability to make a bad challenge, yet avoid being sent off almost every game at the moment. I hope his luck doesn't run out when it matters!

We are such a low energy football team at the moment, with only the odd bright moment of high energy in an otherwise sleep inducing performance.

The positive is out of possession we at least looked like a well drilled outfit that in the 2nd half limited Fulham to next to nothing.

The negative is in possession other than the odd moment we look like complete strangers that have never played together before.

Whilst it was a good solid performance, i just feel as though any team with quality in midfield just opens up with ease. One pass normally takes out our whole midfield and that's not really sustainable against the top sides.

Hoping we have at least 2 signings that elevate the team by the time we have to play City again.

If he did so did Palinha.
Palinha could have easily been sent off twice for a second yellow, unreal he didn't get a card for the tackle on Hojbjerg at the end. He was involved in an attack in the last couple of minutes and I was convinced he was going to score/assist.

we don't create enough overloads in the wide positions & even if we do, we then have the challenge of no one being in the box. Ideally, harry either plays deeper or stays top fully which will create the opportunities for those overloads to work. BTW, we all know why he comes deep - because it's in search of the ball & to make shit happen! Secondly, even when we create these overloads, none of the players are good enough to put in quality crosses (hence quality WB's are key as they create the overloads & then punish opposition through their quality delivery!)

We're missing a few key ingredients to fully unlock our play and it could so easily change our fortunes by just making our patterns less predictable. Today, we're predictable and all teams know the pattern is: multiple passes across back 3, then into midfield, then immediately wide, then back to midfield and mostly all the way back to defence before repeating. We need a player that can break the lines (Traore, Zaniolo) or if we play the pattern a WB that can put in a quality cross by staying wide and dragging out defenders to create space centrally or we just need more quality to be able to hit good diagonal balls from both sides of the pitch.

At least that's what I see - the moment this happens, it will mean son gets some space to run into and I believe we will see his goal return increase because his ability to run and shoot with both feet will actually open up play and options for our attackers. His poor form is increasingly impacted by the congestion he is having to navigate because of how narrow we are centrally and he's never been a player who dribbles in tight spaces.
