Also i'm pretty sure all this 'he wants to be up north' stuff is years old

Its just lazy journalism. They are now linking him to Newcastle because it is in the 'north'. Leeds is bang in between London and Newcastle so that reasoning is nonsense.

There has to be more to this than meets the eye. He has been excellent for us IMO. Why would we offload? Why would he be so desperate to go up north but take a massive drop in playing standard? How unhappy must he be with life in London? Also its not like we have a ready made replacement. Davies is solid but Sessegnon is way off our standard. Not saying he can't get there and is a good prospect but I really think he is overhyped.

He probably just want a change of scenery/new challenge. He's not from London, and he's been with us for 12 years. I don't think there's anything more to it than that.

We tried to sell him last summer also I believe
Apparently Everton was the team quizzing him on his mental health

But it just seems having finished the season so well for us and at 29 why take such a cut in playing standard with a move to someone like Everton? It just doesn't happen that often in football, you'd think he'd be keen to kick on with us next season seeing what we are doing in the market.

I don't see why we are so happy to let him go for 20m, given we've got nobody near his standard at LB or have been linked to anybody near his standard yet we seemed resigned to it. I agree its probably about him and his mental health but i'll be gutted to see him go.

I really am not on board with selling Rose this window, in fact, I think Toby is more expendable than him given our current squad situation and transfer targets for the upcoming season. However, I'd imagine leaving him home for the tour was the nail in the coffin for his relationship with the club. I can't imagine Danny actually wanting to be "reintegrated into the squad" if his past antics and stubbornness is anything to go by.

To sell Danny and replace him with a 19 year old kid who has had 3 appearances at LB in the PL is certainly a serious gamble. It surprises me that we're doing this in a summer where it's clear we're going all in for the title by breaking our transfer record twice and holding onto some of our key want away players like Eriksen and Toby. You get the sense that this season could potentially be an all or nothing scenario with some of our current key players in terms of major silverware.
To have Davies start in all of our "big games" is certainly a step back at the LB position, as I don't think Sess is likely ready to be our starting LB in big games at Anfield, the Etihad, or against a European powerhouse in the CL. While I rate Davies as a good squad player (especially with his versatility to play CB, which I think is his best position) him and Trips performances vs. Juve in the Rof16 last season still haunt me.

I do rate Sess, and I think he could be a phenomenal winger or fullback in the future - I just think he's more of "Sess the forward" than "Sess the fullback" at his current stage of development. The best case scenario would've been to hold onto Danny, blood Sess in at LB for a season, and have Davies play LCB. (with Toby leaving if funds were needed).
But my guess is that Poch sees him as one for the future and if we don't sign him this summer, another team like United would jump the queue and take him. However, the only way we we can probably bring him in is if we cash flowed his purchase, so we had to axe either Toby or Rose. Toby's sale has been difficult (which is a shame cause he won't sign a new contract) so plan B is to sell Rose (which is a shame because he probably would sign a new contract). Surely we could recoup a similar fee for Davies as the one were quoting for Rose, so Poch must value Davies more.

I wouldn't agonise too much over the reasons why he's likely leaving. We'll find out in 3 months anyway when he gives an interview to a tabloid paper.

What gave it away? My guess is the fact he remained at Hotspur away to focus on a transfer away rather than going on pre season tour

Sarky.

He was responding to the previous post, which gave the impression it was solely Spurs’ decision to get rid of him.

reckon rose wants to go
I feel Rose just wants to be wanted. The clubs showing him the door so nobody can blame him. Looking closely at Sessegnon I'm skeptical on him playing left back , he look far better going forward

You're right, I'm not sure if that's true. But unless we do get him a move to a big European club like PSG or Juve, it's hard for me to imagine he would be pushing for a move from here to Newcastle (or such club) especially with his last game for the club being a CL final.

I'd think he was in a similar situation to Eriksen thinking he's got one big final contract in him and wants to see if a Juve or PSG want him.
If not, he'll just carry on here.
I'd be very surprised if he wanted to drop down a level or two to Everton or Newcastle.

I don’t think it’s to do with money for Eriksen though as by all accounts there is a big contract offer from us on the table.

The same offer isn’t on the table for Rose. Whether that is to do with age, importance to the club or a result of his hissy fit in The Sun is anyone’s guess.

I'm a bit anti Rose (and have stated it before), i just don't think he's as good as others think - so for that reason i'd be staggered if he got a move to a Juve/PSG type club as i don't think he's up to it and would be surprised if a big club with money felt they couldn't find better tbh. In fact i think Digne is better so couldn't have Everton interested either, although clearly Newcastle not good enough for him.

Peak Assou-Ekotto edges it (imo). It's a shame benny wasn't really that interested in his job, otherwise he probably would have been world class.

That's not a slight on Danny - more of an appreciation of BAE when he put the effort in.

Christian Ziege was pretty special too
