Very old school type of a player and signing, think we should look for next Rose and Walker, not next Corluka and BAE. Both were good but modern football asks more from fullbacks.
I think if we go the for the “modern football” full backs you’re signing one that can’t actually defend but have a bucket load of pace. I’d be happy with a Azpilicueta type that focus’s on doing their job first which is defending.

And yet over the past two years I’ve been yearning for a quality RB like Corluka.

aww I miss Charlie!! Had a deceptive turn of pace ??
You very rarely seen him getting turned inside out! A defender who could actually defend, if this guy is similar then I’m all for it

Pace and defending aren't mutually exclusive, how many clubs have fast fullbacks that can't defend? Maybe Mendy from City, that's about it and he is infinitely better than Davies. I'd be happy with a FB who has pace, who can give us width, who can be dangerous on counter attacks, who can follow wingers for overlaps and recover from mistakes. Even best defenders get dribbled past couple of times per game, difference is some can recover from it and some can't. Davies is a good defender and can even play as CB but he gets exposed often and doesn't offer enough on the other end. There's a reason why all top clubs look for pace, especially in FBs.

With Davies I find the most frustrating part of his game is the number of games where he is among the worst passers of the ball on the pitch. Definitely think we should be aiming for upgrades for both fullbacks.

Deceptive as in, you think he's not moving but he actually is.

I’m not sure where this description of Celik as a slow, defense-only RB comes from. I don’t think that’s remotely accurate.

His style of play is noted in this scouting vid as "Attacking fullback." In fact, the first minute of this video gives a good insight into how useful he'd be going forwards without even seeing kick a ball in the rest of the vid. Nothing like Davies.

Judging a fullback depends very much on how his manager is directing him to play.
I remember a certain manager of ours who didn't like his fullbacks crossing the halfway line!

Liverpool play the same full backs every single game. I don’t even know who their back up left back is, I’m only guessing that Gomez was used as back up right back?
Why are we in need of 4 full backs all fighting for 2 spots. Surely it’s better having a settled back 4. It’s not like Poch era when full backs were two of hardest workers either, we don’t need to rotate.
Rather we just signed a right back who starts 40 odd games like Trent does for Liverpool. Have Tanganga filling in Europa easy games or cups.

I for one would love to have a settled team. It was all over the shop under Poch (mainly because he liked to keep everyone happy and we had a big squad), didn’t we go 60 games or something without naming the same line up for consecutive games?!?!

Buying him and selling Aurier for about the same price seems like pretty good business.

how do you figure well be aiming for upgrades when realistically the club will look to the academy... you know who we're dealing with

That was one of the least inspiring attacking videos I've ever seen honestly.
