David Ornstein Retweeted BBC Sport
As things stand Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace to Arsenal not happening, will take major change(s) to materialise. Also hearing Napoli edging ahead in Kieran Tierney race but deal still there to be done. As we know cash the issue for #AFC this summer #CPFC #CelticFC #SSCNapoli

Guessing there's no flood of celebratory memes from gooners after one of his tweets for once. Nice aperitif for them before we unveil Ndombele.

Ornstein just dropped a double turd on the Scum, saying Zaha is not happening and that Napoli might beat them to Tierney.

He's a bloody good player too.

This whole story is a bit odd though. Something doesn't quite fit.

I mean we were apparently getting quoted £70m+ for the past two years but didn't bite - and he's improved again over the last year.

Why would you bid £40m after his rookie team mate has just moved for more?

Makes no sense at all, unless Arsenal know something no one else seems to know.

Someone said it earlier in the thread (sorry can't remember who) but I almost reckon it's a case of them not actually having any money to spend so they're putting in a face-saving bid for a popular player like Zaha just to make it seem like they tried as best they could when they inevitably end up spending almost nothing i.e. they never expected the bid to get accepted but they had to make a few speculative offers to make it seem like they're taking it seriously. Unfortunately it's backfired because they've put in such a silly offer that they've just become even more of a laughing stock.

If Zaha has given us an indication that he is wanting a move to us, perhaps that’s why we’ve had a change of heart on loaning Clarke back to Leeds?

I can see United getting involved in this later down the line. They’d get a reduced fee due to the 25% sell on clause, he’d be classed as homegrown - which they seem to be going mad for at any cost (quite literally) at the moment, and he’d earn a packet moving there.

Yes, they’ve just signed James, but when is United’s business supposed to make sense!?

Just popping back here to remind myself how great today has been.

In other news, if anyone has any buttons from down the back of the sofa they can contribute to Arsenal's transfer kitty it'll be greatly appreciated by them.

Yeah, funnily enough I think Man Utd would be the only team to see value in a deal for Zaha

Palace ideally want £70m for him, which would mean that teams other than Utd would have to bid around £90m

Even if Palace lowered that amount to £60m, teams would still have to bid £80m

Zaha has 4 years left on his contact; he's not going anywhere (apart from Utd) for the next couple of seasons in my opinion

Also, I've no idea why Arsenal are wasting their time with this one...

If Zaha went back to United the Oxford English Dictionary would have a new entry for their 2020 edition:

Zaha (noun): to be inconceivably stupid; to fall on the ground while sitting; to drown in a light shower; to defecate in one’s own breakfast; to support Arsenal

No, they wouldn't. Palace would simply charge them 25% more unless there is right of first refusal style clause in their previous transfer deal.

Either that or Palace will factor Man United into their valuation for Zaha (pad it).

If he’s a childhood Gooner fan and wants to join his club, he shouldn’t have signed the two contract extensions at Palace.

I think he’s panicking now because, as the years go by, there are less chances of him playing in a top six club.

The transfer of AWB has really brought him back to reality on the mistakes he had done previously.

That won't change if he joins the gooners, can't see them being a top 6 club much longer

Why? They have a good, proven manager. If anyone will fall out of the top 6, I think it’ll be United - no plan behind their spending, and a manager who knows nothing about running a club.

Decent manager, maybe. But their squad is severely lacking and they don't seem to have any youth that can fill the holes they're not going to be able to fill if the spend silly on Zaha

If they buy Zaha, yes. But in the end we don't know how much they have to spend, it's all paper talk. And according to the papers, we need to sell half our squad to finance Ndombele, 'cause we're broke with our new stadium!

We can't call the media idiots when they talk about us, then believe everything they say about our rivals.

Good points. But I doubt they would have more than 100m to spend and to spend the bulk of it on Zaha seems crazy.

The Swiss Ramble info in the Arsenal thread details how far they have fallen financially due to no CL and they can't get out of it with player sales.
