Am I right though in saying if he came in January and being 20 he would then qualify as it would constitute 3 years overall - just staggered that's all as he had 2 years at Chelsea academy?
I have been wondering the same thing, i've seen people on twitter being pretty adamant that he wouldn't even if he joined now but I have no idea if they are right.

He left Chelsea 3 years ago when hew was almost 17 y.o. Now he is 20 y.o. in 10 months will turn 21. "For a player to be considered homegrown, they must have played for an FA-affiliated club for at least three years before turning 21".
No chance.
UEFA defines locally-trained or ‘home grown’ players as those who, regardless of their nationality, have been trained by their club or by another club in the same national association for at least three years between the age of 15 and 21.

This is a little misleading, though, as I believe it's seasons not full years.

So if we assume that the counting begins the season you turn 15, he managed to get two seasons under his belt belt before leaving for Juventus. If he then joins us in January, he will get the third season with us and count as HG.

If we assume that the counting begins the season after you turn 15 (as in you have to be 15 when the season begins), he will only have one counting season until now. However, because he won't turn 21 until next season, next season will also count, and he'd get two seasons with us in addition to the one at Chelsea and count as HG at the end of the 2024/25 season.

So either way he will, as far as my understanding of the rule goes, eventually count as HG if we sign him in January.

Yeah from what I've seen and read I reckon you are right. What I would say is if he does count as HG then £15m for a young, HG player with potential to improve is a good deal.

For LW I want Nusa or Jota loan with option.

For RW I wanted Bakayoko but I'm happy with Soule as you seem to rate him so highly.
Agreed, especially If he is HG I'm certainly all for getting him. The fact he's played WB this season and has played CM at times for the youth team does really make me think he could play the Udogie role and play it well. He seems to be decent defensively as well although he would no doubt need work but looking at Porro and his development I honestly see no reason why we couldn't do the same with him. My only reservations is him as WF.

Yea it's certainly a bit ambiguous but my understanding is similar to @The Scarecrow 's rationale above.

Would be nice to have clarity either way for future reference as it's a topic that routinely gets brought up.

I saw Kelly's name on that list. Can't see us going for him now, given he has reportedly done his hammy and will be out for 'some weeks'. There is always the chance, I suppose, that he will still be around in the summer when he becomes a free agent. I wouldn't bet the house and the dog on that though.

B'mouth are sticking to their initial valuation of him despite his contract. I reckon we'll line up Kelly as a free transfer for the summer. And rather go for a right footed CB this winter.

Isn't he quite injury prone in general? Would be nice to have a HG CB but if they aren't willing to come down on price and he has injury issues im not sure he would be our best option.

I've read a couple of interview with him (Samuel Iling) in later years and he's often talking about he beeing an arsenal fan and that he would like to play for them.

From interview with the Athletic

Still only 19, it must feel like only yesterday Iling-Junior was playing on the Park View estate in north London. “I’m a Highbury boy,” he beams

Makes me a bit sceptic if theese links a true

Fans think far too much about who someone supported as a kid. Wasn’t Madders and deki meant to of been Arsenal as kids. Players only care about their careers and where to go that is best for them.

Pretty sure Kane was an Arsenal fan too, which would make sense given he was playing for their academy at an early age.

Peter Crouch talked recently about being a Chelsea fan as a kid and then coming to hate them later on and then being a Liverpool fan who also connected with the other clubs he played for, including Spurs.

Yeah I agree. Madders grew up a Man U fan, he's said it a few times recently.

I don’t rate him but I wonder if we might look to bring him and another in during january if Dier goes?

Although knowing us, we’ll sign him, let Dier go and he will be injured the rest of the campaign!

That’s kind of thing turned a lot of people off Toney on here.

I've only watched clips on the pair but both have that desire to be proactive and win their 1v1's. Soule looks like he might struggle a little bit with the physicality of things in England whilst Iling-Junior looks like he'll have no problem. I also think Iling-Junior has more end product from the footage I've seen. He's got a good delivery off his left foot and his right isn't bad either.

Thought this was interesting, not sure their parameters but I will keep banging the Soulé drum until I break it.

A Juve fan I know talked about Soule the other day, I had no idea who he was. Said that Juve are skint and he doesn't fit the system they play so is out on loan and could look to sell him, but said he is a real talent. So keep beating that drum!

I kinda hope we get him also dispute knowing fuck all about him 😂.

Haha welcome aboard the Sule train, it’s bound to end in disappointment probably with him going to Newcastle but it will be fun while it lasts!

Your friend is spot on! Juve have been very successful this season playing with wing backs and 2 up front now so he doesn't really fit their tactics. Chiesa has been playing as the SS this season alongside Vlahovic. Because they have been doing well I don’t see them changing next season ether. I do think Soule would be capable of playing that role but its obviously not his natural position and as you say they are broke so will no doubt try to flip him for profit now his star has significantly grown. Just a question of if we are really interested, if we are we could certainly get him IMO.
