Feels like one of Kelly, tosin or chalobah could be likely to resolve hg issues and we clearly have interest in caceres who will be cheap. Understandable but if there was a way to get scalvini in it would be so much better.

I think the guy Semenyo looks a talent for Bournemouth. He bossed Bissouma when we played them early in the season. could be a good option if and when holberg leaves. No idea what they paid for him but I wouldn’t imagine it would take a great offer to pinch him. If we’re looking obviously.
He plays rwf?

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if we just go for “backup” level CB’s for now rather than anyone to really challenge Romero and VDV. We’re likely going to factor in that Phillips and Dorrington are both outstanding prospects. Either one of them could make it at this point, they both look to have everything you’d want in young CB’s.

We just need better than Dier and Davies which isn't a particularly high bar. An older player would suit the role but we also need pace which makes that pretty difficult.

Yeah Dier and Davies aren’t at the level that I’d consider to be good backup. We need an upgrade, I just wouldn’t be shocked if it isn’t very stiff competition for our starters with us having such promising young players coming through in that position.

Aside from obviously needing another CB, we really, really need someone else who can put the ball in the net. For all our attacking play we don't score anywhere near enough goals. I really like Johnson and Kulusevski but neither is likely to get more than about 7 in the PL, and Maddison will get similar, maybe a few more if fit. We need another player capable of scoring 15+, as it doesn't look like Richarlison is going to cut it sadly.

Wonder how long Bentancur is out for.

I think everyone knows at least one more quality centre back is a must.

A clinical striker would transform us. But there's never an easy way to get immediate goals. Son took over a season to start scoring for us.

On the sales side getting rid of Davies, Dier and Hojbjerg has to be a priority.

I really hope our transfer committee is on top of this.

Watching the game today does just again remind how good it would be to bring in a top quality WF. Unfortunately we won’t spend the money necessary but it would make a big difference imo

Didn't we just spend on Brennan Johnson?
He was very much one for the long term in mind one would think. He has never put up particularly impressive numbers in a top league. Doesn’t mean I don’t rate him but I’m talking about a different profile of player ie someone who would come in and immediately improve our starting 11. Even when everyone is fit I’m just not convinced our WF’s are strong enough.

Agree but it's your analysis that "we won't spend the money" that I disagree with.

Our spending is a pretty good rate at the moment.

We're not a million miles away, I really would love to see us sign a CB of true quality to come in and provide that security for defensive injuries. I can to an extent understand the signing of Kelly but I'd like him to be 5th choice asap.

I’m not saying we won’t spend money or bring in another WF, we clearly have been buying players, but the calibre of player that we would need in this regard does not come cheap. Quality WF are always expensive as usually they are ether in high demand or their club don’t want to sell. Often both. I just don’t see us spending £60/70 odd mil on a WF when we still have a number of other areas to address.

I hope you’re right and we do spend that sort of fee on an established player who will immediately improve our starting 11 but I just don’t see it. Personally I think we are more likely to go down the young raw player with potential route which is absolutely fine, there are some excellent talents out there, but obviously it might not do much in the short term.

I think the problem is many of the established players like that, just won't come to us.

We need a Salah type signing. Someone we know has ability but maybe it hasn't quite worked out elsewhere.

A genuine top quality player who is currently performing to such a level is not easy to find.
