I think the problem is many of the established players like that, just won't come to us.

We need a Salah type signing. Someone we know has ability but maybe it hasn't quite worked out elsewhere.

A genuine top quality player who is currently performing to such a level is not easy to find.
No it’s not. But we need to keep moving on the deadwood and building the squad.
Look at arsenal, when you get to that point you’ve got to then start buying big name established players for big sums, that is then meant to kick you on to the next level.
We still have squad work to do,
GK backup - English
LB backup - unless sess sorts himself out
LCB backup - Kelly?
RCB backup - unless Philips impresses
Hojberg replacement - 6/8 mobile mould not sure who
Skipp - personally I would sell and back the u21s coming through. Doesn’t suit the team
Richarlison - if the money comes in sell in jan
Gil - I’d still sell just don’t see it with him, has to be loan with an obligation
Striker - do we back veliz? Will need to buy another regardless in the near future
WF - this is the big buy for me. The player we go all out on to truly elevate the side. In the Kavra mould not that I can see levy doing it.
Dier - leaves anyway
Lloris - leaves anyway
Davies - doubt we’ll sell but I would

Johnson is a good player and better than I thought he was. But I can't see him becoming world class and making it as a starter for us. I reckon he'll prove to be a very useful squad player for us over the next few years.
I think he’ll be a starter. He is good and young but I think we need a truly top class winger which we lack. I think kulu will more be the squad player covering RW and 10, with Johnson and a top class winger coming in hopefully

He also says Ivan Toney is going Chelsea.

If you read my other posts you have said exactly the same as me.

Need a top class striker

I know people don’t like him because he’s said mean things but Toney ticks all the boxes on the pitch. Scores all types of goals and can hold the ball up. Good in both boxes too.

However I think we will wait and see how Richy does after his surgery and I don’t believe Brentford would sell in January anyway.

He’s a massive bellend, we don’t need or want that type of personality at the club. Let him go to Chelsea and pile on more toxicity to that club.

Very frustrating. Just need that player to take us up a notch not another cheap option
With Gallardo going there I still think Jota stay's now. I reckon we are interested because we think we can get him for free/cut price but if that changes then we will look elsewhere. Its an easy link IMO.

I think what is interesting after yesterday is that you can say that we probably don't need any more midfielders. If Deki has a long term future there and GLC continues to look tidy then we have a stable of 6 CMs all suited to Ange's style of football without even considering the youth players, Hojbjerg and Skipp.

If Richy goes then I would put money on us going for Santiago Gimenez. We have been openly scouting him for quite a while, his numbers are very impressive (he scored a hat trick this weekend), wouldn't be too expensive in comparison to other options, is young and plays in a very similar system to ours.

I've mentioned before that i have few concerns over him, his lack of pace is a big one for me and In general I also really don't like getting players from the Eredivise as the quality is so so poor when you start getting down the middle/bottom half of the table. Games are so open and defences are often non existent that its quite easy for attackers to stand out. BUT you can't argue with with his numbers and his movement inside the box is exceptional for someone so young. Physically he wouldn't struggle ether. I reckon from a data perspective he will tick at lot fo boxs.

Honestly looking at realistic options within our price range who fit the required criteria I can see us going all in for him the moment Richy leaves.

Yes agreed.

6 - Bissouma & Bentancur
8 - Sarr & Lo Celso
10 - Maddison & Deki (with pathway for Donley)

I'd keep Skipp in as he's club trained. So that gives us 7 players 3 positions, albeit Deki plays RW too.

I think up front is where we will need more options though. Johnson and Son are great, but it gets thin after that. Solomon could be a handy squad option, although I liked the look of Gil too - so one of those to stay. That then leaves a hole in the middle to provide long term competition for Son and a hole on the right to provide another option for Deki.

As others have said I think this is what we need to get our squad in shape for a season with European football:

GK: Replacement for Forster.
LB: If Sess isn't up to it then cover for Udogie.
CB: Ideally one top player that can cover both RCB and LCB. Doesn't need to be a pricey option as Romero and VDV will be the main ones and we have 2-3 young players that need to come through too.
RWF: Someone who can really take on teams with pace and ideally can play on the left too if needed.
ST: We need a hungry player with a point to prove, won't be cheap but is an urgent one IMO.

I agree, I can see him being the most realistic option. Im just not convinced whenever Ive seen him play - even last night, he missed an open goal and the defending on all 3 of his goals was very poor. His goal record is amazing and he is young but I just cant shake the feeling that he would be Vincent Jansen all over again for us.

I would still rather go all out for Sesko who isnt even starting every week for Liepzig and ticks all the boxes for us. I really dont think he would cost as much as some people think.

My knowledge of players and their situations is pretty low. Why is Gimenez likely relatively cheap?

The fee is quoted (by press reports nothing actually substantial) to be about £35m-40m which is probably cheaper than most strikers...especially ones with his type of goal scoring record. I presume its due to the league he is in but who knows if the rumoured fee is even accurate. Brentford were reportedly ready to sell Toney for £60m but now reports say £100m.

I'd be gobsmacked if Liepzig let Sesko go. I know he isn't getting regular mins but he is only 20 and this is his first season in Germany. I think Liepzig will be looking to give him a more prominent role next season and this is just for him adjusting. They think very highly of him there from what i've read.

I completely agree re Gimenez, technically as well i'm not entirely convinced ether. Like you there has always been something about the way he plays that makes me think he would struggle in the PL and have mentioned this before when we were recently linked. But I can also see why we would go for him, as said his age, numbers, system he plays in etc will make him an attractive proposition for us.

Feyernood are not Like Ajax or PSV, financially they are run on a small budget and they don't tend to look for large fees for their players. Well they are still large by Eredivisie standards but not by PL standards. They aren't really in a position to start demanding 50+ mil for their players. Realistically when he goes i'd expect him to leave for around the 40 mil mark (as has been quoted in the press) probably with add ons.

Is Marcos Leonardo still a realistic possibility?

Supposedly Utd and Arsenal sniffing round him heavily and not sure if Roma will be back in for him again but would provide a quality point of attack,

Personal opinion: I’d sell both Solomon ( not good enough ) & Gill ( don’t think he’ll make it with us ) and use the funds they generate towards a top quality wing forward.
