Strange window by them. Not really improved their first XI. They should have been looking to buy a top wide midfiekder to replace Lamela. He did improve last season but that is one position they should have upgraded on.
It's amazing how little other fans know about other clubs' players. Two major things wrong there - 1) Lamela is not a wide midfielder. We don't really play with any wide midfielders. 2) He's one of the first names on the team sheet and we would be genuinely hard pressed to find a player that can provide what he does for the team. Alli, Eriksen and Lamela complement each other and produce a blend of skills that suits the way we're set up perfectly. I think it's just a case of people seeing him have a crap first couple of seasons and making their minds up based on that. It happens the other way round too. Eriksen's quality but other fans seem to overestimate his abilities. He hasn't scored a free kick in ages (granted doesn't get too many opportunities), his corners are very poor, and he has spells in games where he's just a passenger. He's got bags of talent to make up for it, is capable of moments of magic, and can certainly work hard at other times. It's just that he's not the complete package yet, despite others thinking he is. Same goes for Alli, who often makes rash decisions, or holds on to the ball for too long. All 3 are quality players but none of them are the finished article.
I don't think Liverpool fans are in a position to berate our players anyway. They've got some decent players but nobody who stands out. The one exception being Coutinho, who does have some real flair to his game. Like our main attacking 3 he's got flaws himself. As talented as he is he likes to go missing for games. I like him but he's not an upgrade on the Eriksen, Lamela or Alli. I'd say they're all on the same level really.
