Firstly, I'm not one for starting threads (outside of the ) so apologies if this is a terrible/pointless thing to start a thread about or has been said elsewhere but better!
One thing that riled me at the Lane yesterday was several fans I was chatting to saying how gutted they would be if we didn't finish second because we deserve to.
Do we? I know we have won the most points from losing positions (19) but we have also lost the most points from winning positions (20).
There were fans (and I use that term loosely) on Twitter yesterday going apoplectic (and I am not using that term loosely - they really were) about how we have a God-given right to finish second because of reasons (none forthcoming) and how dare Arsenal even think about overtaking us!
We will have played the same number of games as everybody else. We will have played the same teams as everybody else, both home and away.
At the end of the day, every team finishes where they deserve to after 38 matches.
Leicester are champions. They have won more matches than everybody else so of course they deserve to be champions.
We lost yesterday and we deserved to. Yes, Mason looked awful (to me in row 3 of the Shelf - I haven't watched it on TV yet, can't bring myself to so maybe he was better than I think?) but who else could we play? Alli was banned and deserved to be. Dembele was banned and deserved to be. It seemed odd that we kept chanting his name - it seemed a bit Liverpool/Suarez to me. I mean, he gouged somebody's eyes. Okay, granted, it was Costa. But he gouged somebody's eyes. In what way does that seem like a good idea? And he left us with a weakened midfield. Thanks, Dembele. Granted, there is some discrepancy in FA punishments, blah, blah but he definitely deserved to be banned for it.
The only thing that really bugs me about this season is the cups. We have folded in all three cups and having not capitulated to Palace and been in the FA Cup final would have made falling away from Leicester a touch more palatable.
Okay, that's not true. The other thing that bugs me is our home form. We are fifth in the league just looking at home form (still second for just away) and could end up sixth if Southampton win their last home game 5-0.That is bizarre as WHL used to be where we were strongest.
But the best thing about football is that we go again. In only three months with the Euros, the Olympics and the ITK forum to keep us occupied until then.
I can't wait to see how the new stadium is looking the first home game of next season. There might be more cranes. There might be some more concrete.
We have a young squad that will hopefully have some quality in depth and experience added to it in the summer and we will go again. Hopefully a little further. A decent cup run, hell, let's win a cup. Why can't we? Let's win the league.
Let's set our sights very high. So high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.
And the strange thing is, I feel like we deserve some glory.
I can't f'cking wait. COYS!
