I would say he's had his chances at both Fulham and Portsmouth to make their teams and didn't.
Obviously there's something wrong somewhere.

It's quite rare that people on loan will settle and play their best football.

Routy needsto be settled and when he is, we'll see the best of him. I felt he could've really done a job last season, but he has to go now, for his own career, I still rate him highly, he's just been jerked around for almost 3 years.

All the times I've seen him in the reserves he has looked pretty poor. He couldn't go past a table with the ball at his feet.

I'm not quite as confident on this one. I always thought WR looked promising and think it is a good move for Villa to bring him in as cover for Ashley Young. Should Lennon pick up an injury we don't have quality cover, so I hope that if he does go we will bring in another winger. If we get Downing Malbranque could play on the right, but Taraabt doesn't seem ready yet.

It's no secret that we look horrendously narrow and out of ideas when Lennon isn't playing.

I can perceive that this transfer will come back to haunt us. O'neill will get the best out of Wayne and he will be back to his best. £1.8million is an absolute snip. IMO Routledge definitely has pedigree. Routledge is very similar to Pennant and has great crossing ability.l

I doubt it.

Even when Lennon was injured, Jol wouldn't put Routledge in. And the early ITK was that Ramos was taking a serious look at young Wayne in training - which makes sense, 'cos Juande loves a good winger. Well, Ramos took a good look and Routledge didn't even make the bench. Whereas he was very quick to play O'Hara, and put kids like Archibald-Henville and Rose on the bench.

That said, a move to Villa is great for Routledge. O'Neill will work very hard on getting his confidence up, and Wayne may even prove to be of mid-table EPL quality in time. But I'll be amazed if he ever proves to be Top 4 EPL quality.

Then why has he never, ever shown that in a Spurs shirt? I saw him against Inter in a friendly, the game they released the brown kit - he had so much room, so much time and just did what he always does - he runs himself into nowhere and wastes the opportunity every single time.

I only saw him play once or twice when he was out on loan and he even looked out of his depth there - he'd make a superb championship player, maybe he chokes in front of a crowd, who knows.

I really wanted the lad to do well, every time he was announced as going away on loan i crossed my fingers, hoping he'd come back the wonderkid he kept promising to become.

Reeetooo off you go, best of luck.

:adios: Routledge. Had high hopes for you but unfortunately I think that first day injury completely ruined your Spurs career. Good luck in the future!

Stamp and general footie, please.

ROUTLEDGE TO VILLA

We have reached agreement for the transfer of Wayne Routledge to Aston Villa.

Wayne joined us from Crystal Palace in the summer of 2005 but was injured on his Premier League debut on the opening day of that season against Portsmouth, which kept him sidelined until December.

He subsequently enjoyed lengthy loan spells at Portsmouth and Fulham.

We wish him every success for the future.

When he chooses to use it. He's been very inconsistent for the reserves (see reports) and my last clear recollection of him playing for the First XI was against the Baggies two seasons ago, performing failed Atouba impersonations before disappearing up his own arse and generally being a waste of space and skin. Rumour was that he mouthed off at Jol and was shipped off to Pompey quick as you like.

'arry hardly used him, preferring d'Alessandro, and he wasn't particularly impressive when he did play. He was nothing special at Fulham, either, and although Coleman wanted to sign him he wasn't prepared to go above £1m.

Not rated by Jol and Ramos? Not good enough, then.

You will never agree with me on this forum. I don't know why you waste your time in answering my posts?

Anyway, I honestly believe that he wasn't professional enough at Spurs and in his mind, he was always going to be second fiddle to Lennon.

O'neil will get the best out of him and he will reproduce the form that made us sign him in the first instance. If he wasn't out of contract at the time of us signing him, then he would've commanded a £8-10million transfer fee.

Just as well he wasn't in contract, then, wasn't it? Otherwise we'd be looking at a mightily embarrassing loss.

18-month contract? What does that say? Back-up player, see how it goes, ship him off to Norwich or someone. And O'Neill also paid money for Harewood. Top manager, great bloke, not infallible. I doubt his judgement is any better than that of Jol or Ramos. Or 'arry, come to that.

But you're right. He wasn't professional enough here, it seems. A big head, literally and metphorically.

I watched a lot of Routledge at Palace and I saw he had pedigree. Sometimes manager(s) get it wrong and the player develops into something decent - (surprisingly, Wenger is the main culprit for getting it wrong!)

He's a good player, O'neill will get the best out of him. The 18 month contract is simply standard in todays market. The guy has been out of sorts for 3 seasons now - no-one would offer him a longer deal and he just wanted to leave us.
