Dunno how much you've seen of him at U21 level, but he certainly can carry the ball. Not seen as much in his first team appearances yet but it's there. He simply just needs to play first team, EPL football for me, because I'm convinced he has 'it'.

I should probably have been more specific, I was talking more about the carrying the ball past players, little shifting of weight etc to give him a yard, it's what Modric excelled at. Carroll for me is already twice the player Huddlestone should have been, but I still think he's got a little bit to go before we seem him take on the most important role in the team in my opinion.

Interesting comment. This guy for me is a bit of head-scratcher. I think he has it in him to be a busy **** but is too often guilty of actually being a lazy ****. Upfield far too early and ignoring his other duties. How do you get the best out of him? I think its in a Cm3, in a Cm2 his midfield partner has an awful lot of responsibility.
I missed this game as I was flying back from Madrid, looks like a fairly typical day at the office for a Spurs fan. This won't make anyone feel better, but I went and saw Real Madrid and Luka Modric is just a phenomenal footballer, I watched him closely and immediately saw what we've been missing since he toddled over to Spain.

We need that tempo back.

As for Gareth Bale, he didn't have a great game.
Was catching a Real game the main purpose of your trip?

can't be asked to do ratings cause in the 1st half nearly all were on a minus.

yesterday really showed how bad we are missing Bale, to many moaning on the site that we spent 100m and can't excite, we haven't got a player that can turn a game, unless that man could be Lemela, but he still hasn't got the pace or shot that Bale had.

AvB got things wrong big time.

1/ this would of been the perfect time to give Lemela a start

2/ if your going to start off with Friedel in goal you can't play with such a high line. he would of been better to give the spot to Gomes. Friedel is too old now.

3/ I think Lemela might of still had some game time had Chiriches not gone off injured, but I honestly believe he would of been a better option than Defoe

rant over from someone that usually can't be arsed to moan

Any team in the world would miss bale.
Utd rebuilt after ronaldo
Wenger does it all the time.
Lamela may not have bales pace or shot.
But bale does not have Lamelas skill in tight areas and believe me Lamela has a decent shot on him.
The one at 3.45 is quite tasty

part of my OP was AvB made a mistake not putting him in the starting line up, before Thursday I had not seen anything about him that everyone had been raving about, but once I heard he had family moved over here I honestly felt he would be happier. every time he got on the ball on Thursday I wished for him to preform, and he never let my hopes down. then AvB drops him

AvB wouldn't ever of dropped Bale, and my Bale quote was to say that until we have gelled please stop moaning that we have wasted 100m and are boring. the excitement from Harry's time was we were a counter attacking team, and when on the counter we had Bale on the left and Lennon on the right VdV in the middle and Modric.

now we play such a high line, its not as exciting to watch but in general we are getting points and at the end of the day what do points make? PRIZES.

yesterday AvB made the mistakes, wrong sarting line up, wrong subs apart from an obvious one Kaboul

And why do you ask that...?
I just wanted to know if you went all the way to Madrid because you miss Modric that much/ you wanted to be able to say you saw Real play live. I used to think about going to Camp Nou to see Messi before he hangs up his boots.

Okkkkk, I get the feeling you know something else here and exactly why I was in Madrid...!

lets hope AVB realizes his mistakes and Lamela starts with capoue and sandro.
But unfortunately i dont see after AVB comments saying we were unlucky in the second half.

No, I haven't a clue.

Ha, just seemed an odd question as if you knew why I was in Madrid.

I also saw Atleti play Austri Wien in the Champions League over there. Now there's a team, amazing level of defensive organisation, lightening quick when they recover the ball and great at going wide and getting crosses in, and combination play through the centre. Diego Costa up top is my dream idea of a forward. He's just a bloody relentless nuisance as well as being a fabulous player, great movement, involvement and has that desire and enthusiasm I love.

Atleti are a team perhaps we could learn from a little, they're not as much concerned with dominating the ball (although they do at times like in this game I saw), but absolutely ruthless and efficient, and varied, when they have the ball. They don't always press high, and will often press around half way and give themselves a run up to attack space. Such an exciting, varied side - I personally favour the possession, press high, stranglehold type football (at the moment, although signs are that is getting found out as teams learn how to cope) but they are a side that definitely give me food for thought about how we could go about our business.
