UEFA stole my seat

Due to UEFA requiring all the best (read: most expensive) seats in the ground for themselves I have been downgraded. No compensation has been offered. No alternative has been offered. No refund has been offered. No apology has been offered. Just a letter from Ian Murphy, head of Ticketing and Membership, with my new, cheaper ticket in it.

I've copied my response here because last time this happened (against Dinamo Zagreb) they never replied to me.
Dear Mr Murphy,

I am writing this email having spoken to Oliver in your ticketing and membership office as you were not available at the time.

I received your letter yesterday explaining that, due to UEFA requirements, my seat for the home game against Young Boys has been moved from the West Stand Upper to the South Stand. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that I paid £1175 for my season ticket whereas a season ticket in the South Stand Upper, where I have been moved to, is only £765, approximately 65% of the cost of mine.

I am upset that I have been moved to such an inferior location and I am angry that no compensation or alternative has been offered. As a customer I am shocked that you would pay so little regard to me, particularly as I pay for such a premium product (seating in the West Upper), and as a fan of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club I am disappointed in your lack of respect and consideration for your own fans.

No big surprise really. The club know loyalty is there to be exploited and will not go out of the way to appease fans.

Obviously there's not much you can do with UEFA requirements, the set of fuckers that Platini et al are, but as you touch on, a more apologetic letter, perhaps a free Spurs car freshener or window sticker would've been nice.

Or a refund? To buy a ticket in West Upper for this game would cost you £76 whereas South Upper is only £49. By my reckoning that's at least £27 they owe me.

Lucky man, South Upper is much better than West Upper. Hopefully for you they'll do it a bit more often.

They should pay you the difference though (£27).

You should have also finished the letter by saying that you would like to have a 'straightner' with Ian Murphy.

Just think of yourself as a martyr for the Champion's League cause.

Thanks BigRed. You are a hero.

Mate I dont think this has anything to do with people taking your seats? Do you sit in one of the front rows? If so then you have been moved because those big blue Champions League signs that go around the ground are bigger than usual advertising hordings and you wont be able to see.

That is the case with other grounds and Im sure there was a note about the game being reduced capacity because of this?

If you dont then completely ignore this, but my mates who had STs at the Library had to do the same thing for CL games.

No, I sit right at the back with a concrete wall behind me.

It doesn't matter what the reason is though. I'm angry that they've taken my money (a lot of it) for a season ticket and given me a seat that should be 45% cheaper.

This is exactly the type of thing that would get me angry. People are right about there being better atmosphere in the park lane stand but the fact is they have replaced a product you didnt want replacing with a cheaper alternative ( and in your eyes not as good) and that is wrong. I would kick up a massive fuss until they refunded me the difference. Unfortunately theses days you have to in order to get anywhere with big organisations.
Either that or get Dom Littlewood on the case.

This is pretty disgraceful. These things should be anticipated by the club beforehand, and the possible implications made very clear when buying/renewing a season ticket.

It's all very amaturish the way they've gone about this, and I don't blame you for being less than pleased about it. It surely couldn't have been that difficult for the club to work out what special arrangements would need to be made in the scenario where we got into the Champion's League, then make every effort to ensure that the paying customer is aware that certain seats would be affected.

As Bobishism says, just sit there anyway (not sure about defecating though).

Some people are moved because of the adverts, some people are moved because we have to give some tickets to UEFA. As long as you can see the game does it matter?

This isn't news either, the club said it a long time ago. I doubt if anyone would not renew their ST's because of a handfull of matches at best.

I can't just sit there anyway because they've moved me to a completely different stand and my season ticket (bar code thingy now) won't let me in to the west stand.

Doesn't your season ticket only cover League games and not 'cup' games?

i could be wrong, i've never brought a season ticket before, so wouldn't know.

but if that is the case, you don't really have an argument?

The season ticket includes two 'free' cup games, the first two of the season regardless of the competition.

Edit.. But you also have priority on your seat for all cup games.

Block 3.

It appears to be due to proximity to the halfway line as I've heard from fans in the East Stand who've also been moved.
