i was wondering now where in the january window is it possible for the club to register the likes of taraabt, ghaly, rocha & boateng to play in europe the same way any new players we sign that are not cup tied would be eligible? just a thought as we have alot of games and will need the squad

Hi WI :) I expect we'll wait as long as possible to possibly register any new signings. No idea about the actual cut off dates.

I had a read through the Uefa cup rules not so long ago and got completely confused reading through the complete mess that it is. Whoever wrote it was smoking something strong.

Just checked it and we have 'til 1st of feb to register new players.

Right I've found this - and forgive me if I'm being stupid - but it seems to make absolutely no sense whatsoever, and contradicts itself 3 times! Bloody UEFA.

One player from the above quota of three who has played UEFA club
competition matches for another competing club in the current season may
exceptionally be registered provided that the player has not been fielded:
− in the same competition for another club,
− for another club that is currently in the same competition.
Furthermore, if the player’s new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former
club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current
season.

We can make a total of 3 changes to our UEFA cup squad.

I'm a little bit unsure if we can select someone new to be our club trained player, if we can then we can add someone for Barcham who left. Cause Huddlestone is now considered as trained by the club. He wasnt in summer.

This means we can not add any player that have played in the UEFA cup,
nor can we add someone who played Champions League if his club at a later stage played UEFA cup (hence why Pavlyuchenko will not be eligible, nor will Arshavin if bought).

We can however add one player who have futured in Champions League football this year, as long as his club havent played UEFA cup later on.

I assume we'll also swap Hutton for someone

Yes, and most likely Gilberto.

So if Huddlestone can take the status as club trained,
then we'll replace Hutton, Gilberto and Barcham with three new players or from the Ramos' outkast

It's the phrase 'UEFA club competition matches' which is ambiguous and causes confusion. What it means is domestic competitions within UEFA, not the CL or UEFA Cup. So, if we were to sign, say, Bellamy, we could register him for our UEFA squad as the Spammers haven't played in the competition. We could also sign and register a player from a side that's still in the CL.

Even though Pav was our player before we or Spartak played a game in the UEFA Cup, they were de facto in the competition when we signed him, so he's ineligible. It seems a bit harsh, but them's the rules. It was precisely the same situation as with Rocha and Hutton.

You'd think someone would have realised this, wouldn't you?
