Tottenham will want to put a sizeable dent in Everton's top-four ambitions when they meet at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Spurs are pushing hard for UEFA Champions League qualification themselves, and have worked their way into third spot.
Should they be able to cling on to that lofty perch, that would be enough to secure them a direct passage into the group stage of Europe's premier club competition.
They were able to get back to winning ways in the league last time out and have suffered just two defeats in their last 15 top-flight outings.
Everton have, however, already overcome Spurs on one occasion this season and will have their sights set on an impressive double.
The Toffees have claimed three successive victories to keep themselves in contention for a top-four finish, with four points separating them from Chelsea at present.
A slight concern for David Moyes heading into the weekend will be the fact that Everton have picked up just four wins and 18 points on their travels this season, but Spurs are coming off the back of a testing Europa League fixture in midweek and may show signs of fatigue.

Tottenham

Tottenham forward Gareth Bale will sit out Sunday's clash after he was stretchered off with an ankle injury in Thursday's 2-2 draw with Basel.
Winger Aaron Lennon and defender William Gallas are to have scans on Friday on the respective knee and calf injuries they suffered against the Swiss champions.
Midfielder Sandro (knee), striker Jermain Defoe (pelvis), and defender Younes Kaboul (knee) are unavailable.

Everton

Everton will be without suspended duo Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar for their trip to north London.
Both men still have one game left to serve on their respective two-match bans.
The Toffees will give Kevin Mirallas as long as possible to shake off the injury problem suffered late on in last weekend's 1-0 victory over Stoke, but Tony Hibbert is still missing with a calf complaint.

Gareth Bale will be absent for the visit of Everton having sustained damaged ankle ligaments against Basel.
Friday's scan revealed Bale will be unavailable for two weeks, as will fellow injury victims from Spurs' Europa League clash, Aaron Lennon and William Gallas.
Everton pair Marouane Fellaini and Steven Pienaar are both suspended while last weekend's goalscoring hero Kevin Mirallas is also a doubt with a groin injury.

Both Tottenham and Everton face a huge test in this pivotal clash at White Hart Lane as the battle for a top-four place nears the finishing line.
For Spurs, a win at Swansea last week helped them get back on track after a hat-trick of defeats in all competitions. However, the extent ofGareth Bale's ankle injury suffered during Thursday's 2-2 draw with Basel in the Europa League will surely have a considerable bearing on the remainder of their season.
If Spurs implode, Everton could yet take advantage. They have won three successive league games for the first time since January 2010, but you feel they are going to have to win at White Hart Lane to continue their push for Champions League qualification.
The Toffees, who dramatically beat Spurs back in December thanks to two stoppage-time goals, have a game in hand; intriguingly it is against another Champions League-chasing side, Arsenal, in a few weeks.
It's a vital month for Everton, as where they finish this season is bound to have a huge bearing on the future of manager David Moyes.
They have enjoyed a good recent spell of results against Spurs, who were a real bogey team for them at the start of the Premier League era.
The legendary Bill Nicholson's first match in charge of Tottenham was a remarkable 10-4 win over the Toffees back in 1958. He of course went on to lead Spurs to the league and cup double in the 1960-61 season, and such have been the performances of Bale this season that Nicholson would surely have found a place for him in that famous side of half a century ago.
That's how good the Welshman has been this season. And that's why everyone connected with Tottenham will be hoping his injury is not as bad as first feared.

Tottenham
      • Spurs are a point worse off than they were at the same stage last season under Harry Redknapp.
      • Andre Villas-Boas' side are the only team in the division to have picked up more points away (29) than at home (28) this season
      • They have scored just 22 goals in 15 matches at White Hart Lane - nine fewer than they managed at the same stage of last season.

They're all massive games at this stage but if we could just get through this and pick up the three points I still feel its definitely doable, providing the latest prognosis on Bale and Lennon is fairly accurate.

I'm going for a scrappy 1-0 win. Vertonghen or Caulker with the goal.

Mirallas is a serious doubt for them as well. He'll be a big loss to them if he doesn't make it. This is going to be one scrappy game I reckon, congested with little room for either team to manoeuvre in.

Cue the goal fest lol

Without any pace in our midfield we are just a different team, and we look lethargic at WHL enough of the time even with Bale and Lennon playing.

Gonna be tough this.

Please can we have our first penalty of the season. I think we will need something like that. It's about time...

The thing is pace isnt necessary for good fast play. Quick, good passing is just as effective and can destroy teams just as much

Problem is we have players that prefer to hold the ball and look around for a couple of seconds before slowly moving it

Drives me mad, this, too. Dempsey especially, seems to dwell on the ball really excessively. Reason I like this kid Carroll is that he passes so quickly and knows what he wants before he gets the ball, do you think this kid gives lessons? ;)

Going for a 0-1. Going to be a piss poor game, the only way I can see us scoring is through a set piece, penalty or some sort of deflection. Everton don't look too great with injuries either but with our atmosphere at the moment the crowd will get on the players backs and they'll nick one.

Genuinely more concerned about the Basel game. Strange.

However, i'm going to this one, and have never been to a game when Spurs have lost. Ever.

My record this season is Inter 3-0, fulham 3-0, Villa 2-0, West Ham 3-1, Arsenal 2-1 and West Brom 1-1.

It would be a big step forward if we could get to 60 points before Arse and Chavs. Too bad we didn't manage to beat Fulham because then a win in this fixture would have us on 63 points, and we would only need about 7 points more from the next 6 games.

Losing to Liverpool from a winning position and then throwing 3 points away at home to Fulham have fucked everything up, add 6 or even 4 more points on to our tally and things look a lot more comfortable

That's football though, hopefully Arsenal's turn to do something stupid and unexpected seeing as Chelsea did so last week at St Mary's

We have to beat Everton, the game has draw written all over it but we must win this game

Yes as we can now see, the Fulham game was a massive loss. Why anyone would think we can beat Everton without Bale, Lennon and Defoe! When we have seen how badly we have been playing since Milan even with them.
There has been something wrong with this team since the Arse game. And I would have to be honest and say if we had lost bale earlier in the season I think we would now be fighting it out for a eufa spot, if even that. No we are not a one man team, but we are very average with out him, and extremely ineffective without him, Lennon AND Defoe!

I think that has been the difference. Arse don't fuck it up in the run in, they get stronger. And I am sorry but a home loss for us against Fulham opposed to an away loss at Southampton is a bigger drop of points for me. Oh and your forgot our outrages loss of 3 points in 2 mins at Everton. I am sure Arse fans are laughing there faces off at us right now and saying, same old spurs.

I didn't forget our loss of points at Everton, any more than I forgot our early season last 10 min losses of points at home to WBA and Norwich for example. I was talking about recent weeks and generally I am sure all clubs can point to games they lost and feel they shouldn't and say "if we won that" or "if so and so didn't do this we'd be top of the league"

Arsenal do fuck up during the run in, they did last year- we just fucked up more and failed to take advantage.

Remember we only needed to beat Villa after Moses and Wigan beat them?

Arsenal this year have been more consistent against the smaller teams than they usually are, though I still feel they're not that good a team. Before Bayern they looked a shambles- they got a result that filled them with confidence in Germany while we had the opposite in Milan so momentum swung somewhat

Let's see what Arsenal do before we all start sucking their dicks though. Corzola is an excellent player and they have pace and great movement but they're not what they were and they can still slip up even though their run in looks very easy on paper compared to ours and Chelsea.

We can only really focus on ourselves. We're likely to go out of Europa and while that's frustrating at least it will clear our fixture list, plus Chelsea beating Utd means we'll have more chance of facing them with a stronger line up if bale and lennon regain fitness.

Everton game is massive, they're understrengthed too and it will be a tight game probably won by the odd goal, a moment of magic perhaps. Let's hope that moment comes from Dembele's left boot

Beat Everton and secure our place in the top four a little longer then hope to use the rest time til our next game to get people back fit. If we lose or draw to Everton things are really likely to go tits up

I'm looking forward to the game, I think we'll win and someone else will step up to the plate and lead us forward.

I hope Vertonghen plays left back though, his runs forward are more intelligent than BAE. The latter needs to sort himself out.
